Wk of Apr 15--WISH Walking/Running Club

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Wow, everyone here is doing so well. I'm so proud to be a part of this team. Only a couple of weeks until the beginning of May races - Minnie and Flying Pig. Whoo hooo! I can't wait!

My Garmin's been acting up the past couple of days and losing the GPS signal. I was trying to run about 4 miles yesterday, and I didn't know quite how far I went. My time was 42:34 min. Based on my pace and effort it seemed like I went farther than 4 miles. I mapped it on the USATF site and I went 4.82 miles for a 8:50 mpm pace! Wow, a sub 9 min pace - Yay! Now, I definitely don't think I could sustain that for the half marathon, but I need to run 9:09 mpm pace or less for a 2 hour half. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that, plus I'm going to tie a rope around Steve and have him drag me to a 2 hour half.

Uh oh, we could have a problem, because my plan was to tie a rope around YOU and have you drag me through the course. :confused3 How about we compromise--you can drag me up the hills since I've done no hill training, and I'll drag you down the other side of the hill. :thumbsup2
Hey, if your Garmin is still acting screwy in two weeks, I have an extra 201 here that I don't use too much anymore that you're more than welcome to use for the race. Just something to keep in mind.

Guys, I feel bad because once again, it's been a WTO week. I'm really going to catch up with everyone this weekend. Just from skimming, it looks like everyone's having a pretty good week. Hope everyone has a great weekend and enjoys the warmer weather.

Steve

Yeah it's Friday! It is actually sunny and supposed to be warm here today! :cloud9:

I hurt my back doing yard work yesterday. :sad2: But it held up through my DD's first 5k length run at Girls on the Run! I ran it with her and the group. DD was the 1st girl done in 38 minutes! :woohoo: I think she wanted to go faster but the coaches were promoting just getting through the distance. My back was very happy.

I've got a goal of 20 miles this week and I've got 10 more ,well, 9.5 but I'll throw in an extra half mile for free! I was going to do 3 tonight and 7 tomorrow but I think I'll split it evenly and be happy w/ that.

Kristi-Yes, shopping is XT. It would have been strength training if you had purchased anything which you had to carry.:upsidedow

Stephanie-I took a couple yoga classes years ago and was embarrassed by how much my arms shook!

Cam and Martha-:wizard: Get well soon.

Judy- I've been ashamed to admit that I have never watched AI. I did see about 15 min of the audition show but that's it. Glad someone else was brave enough to admit it first.

Christa-My mother lives in Charlotte. She's probably scared to death w/ everything going on. Got to call her today!

Bekkiz- Hey, sitting on those balls is hard work! I'm amazed you can do it after your surgery.
Nancy- My allergies are going crazy this year! I'm running w/ a big ball of tissue lately.

Jackie-I'm lucky because my 3 yo is learning to forage from his big sisters. I won't need to provide for him much longer!:rotfl:

Steve and Dave- The thought of you two pulling each other along the course is quite amusing!:joker:

Melissa- It's so cool that you can do so many errands on the bike. I wish our town were a little more biker friendly.

Have a great day!
Kiena

Aw... don't I look cute in a dorky blue swim cap... Insert references as to what it makes me look like here... ;)

Hello my peeps! Happy Friday!!!

Bekkiz--I cannot believe you had back surgery in January and are already able to walk and run that fast! WOW!!! Color me impressed! :artist:

Dave--I thought the plan was for you and Stephen to drag me? :confused3 I'm pretty sure you agreed to that. :) I have my 12 miler tomorrow and then the taper starts for me! :cheer2:

Cam--Feel better soon!!! :wizard: I wouldn't worry about the Minnie, you have an amazing base built up from the marathon, plus in a race setting with fellow Wisher's, I really think you will be fine. The most important thing right now is to get you better!

Cindy--Great job sticking with the run! I know exactly what you mean, about having to come on here and post that you missed or cut a run short without a good reason (for the record, an injury is ALWAYS a good reason). I know no one would say anything to me, but I would feel like the biggest loser coming on here and having to fess up!

Kiena--Pass on my congrats to your daughter! That is awesome!! :woohoo: I hope your back is feeling better!!

Martha--Are you feeling any better today? :wizard:

Kristi--You are too funny with your GGD's!! Not that I can talk, my dog *is* named Hines. ;) Did you ever find anything to wear?

Leana--Great pace on your 3 miler!!!

Carrie-- Hope you are doing okay!

Kristin--Haven't seen you in a while! I hope you are feeling better!

Okay, training report: I had 40 minutes last night and I ran it pretty slow. My legs were tired and I could tell Hines was tired too as he was dragging behind me. We ended up doing 3.67 miles with I think a 10:54 pace, not as fast as the other day, but they can't all be fast runs, right? :) Tomorrow is my 12 miler and then taper madness for the Pig begins!!! YAY!! :yay:

Kiena - Maybe we should start a "AI Free and Proud of It" Support Group! :thumbsup2

Umm, anyone else a little concerned that Steve and Dave are talking about tying each other up??

I don't know, Matt, I think you look pretty cute. Look at that big happy smile! You look like you're having such a great time. Those pictures look like an advertisement for Cliff Bars or Wheaties or something. :woohoo:

Kristi - Oh don't get too excited, girl! It wasn't THE Reznick. No, no, I would have been on the phone to you SO quick if it was!

Susie - Join me on The Evil Side. I learned my evilness from Christa. ;)

OK, let's see if anyone notices the conspicuous lack of training in today's post... :rolleyes1

Hey all... it's a sad sad day here in Wisconsin.... I went to the podiatrist and she told me.....I can't run! Well for 1-2 weeks that is. I do indeed have the evil and dreaded PF in my foot. That and limited mobility in my ankle which is a contributer. Now I know where that came from... you see, when I was in first grade I jumped out of our fort and pretty much snapped my ankle. Oh how those childhood things come back to haunt you!!

So my ankle is currently taped for 3 days to try to get the arch back to normal and the inflammation down. I was fitted for custom orthotics and they should be in in 2 weeks. She wants me to still do my 1/2 marathon on May 20, but I need to take a break right now. I guess I need to do some heavy cross training instead. Ughhhhh. OH and the worst news of all... the callous on my other heal is NOT a callous... it's a wart. GROSSS!!

I am swamped at work, I will try to pop in later.

Steve and Dave.... BEHAVE YOURSELF, this is a family board!!!

Don't ask, don't tell. :lmao:

TGIF!!

2.5 miles on the TM last night. Terrible! I didn't want to do it. My body didn't want to do it. My feet didn't want to do it. But, something's better than nothing. :sad2: :)

Matt - Cute cap. :rotfl: Great pics, by the way.

MelR-- My prayers are with you and Phil regarding the tests.

Matt-- Awsome pics!

Martha & Cam-- Get well soooooon! Minnie awaits you:thumbsup2

Cam-- Make sure you drink plenty of water with the Levaquin (it's processed through kidneys). I'm sure they told you to not eat grapefruit or grapefruit juice. I'd add don't do any weight-bearing exercise until the stuff is well out of your system. I'm sure you'll be fine, remember the soft-tissue injuries are rare.

As for the news media and seeing that kid... After watching that poor kid with the bloody foot fall out of the Columbine window approximately 30 times, I stopped watching the news altogether. I'm not uninformed, I check a couple of websites each day for the top story headlines. I hear about every major story just by being around people. But I'm proud to say that I only saw that monster posing with the two guns once, I wouldn't recognize his face again if I saw it and I don't know his name. I have read about each and every victim, though.

(I've also never seen AI!!!!)

The media would stop if we all stopped watching. (Sorry, Kristi, we'll wait to bring them down until you've found a new position!)

I've been in a major funk; totally wiped out for the last three days. I'm hoping to get my 20 miler in this weekend.

Sunny

Hey all. Got my LR of 9 miles in this morning--84:30ish. Not bad--not great. But I guess running twice in about a 12hr. period is what slowed me down. But it's over and complete--that's what matters, right?

Dave and Steve--Wow, seems like I'll be missing out on a show at the Pig. Make sure KRista takes pics of the two of you tied together!:lmao:

Sunny--good luck with the 20 miler!:thumbsup2

Krista--good luck with your LR as well!:goodvibes

Matt--great pics!

Well, I better go. Lunch and then naptiem for the kiddos (also referred to as the golden hour around here!)

Boy I go away for a couple of days and now people are talking about tying others up. Perhaps I should back out for a little longer to make sure I don't get involved...:rolleyes1

Timmy seems to be doing better with his choking issues. He hasn't done it for 4 days now so maybe something is working. The doctor is driving this poor engineer nuts by changing lots of variables at once and then not waiting to see if that really works before changing more stuff. It may be awhile before we know the real cause or what actually worked or if it was an anomoly that he grew out of. At least my coworkers agree with me on changing everything at once. ;) He does seem to be eating more so I will guess a growth spurt is happening.

Lynnda has a nice case of cabin fever. She was able to get out of the house a couple of times this week and was glad she didn't have to talk to babies or me. She seemed to relish the adult conversation and I think got caught up on a few things. Since she can start driving again tomorrow, I am sure that will please her even more. The doctors were nice to give her that as a birthday present but somehow I am thinking that she still expects something from Billy and me. :rolleyes1

Training wise, I got out yesterday and did 5 miles with a 10:!5 pace. It is starting to heat up again so the pace seems to be dropping. Hopefully I can get out for a long run tomorrow since it is probably the last chance before Minnie.

MelR - Hope the test go well and it isn't a major problem.

Judy - So what about that missing training. ;) Surely something as entertaining as being chased by geese could have happened again.

Matt - Nice pics, I think the cap adds a little flair to the picture.

Sunny - Hope you feel better and are able to get in your run.

Jen - Sorry about the news on the foot. I hope it heals quickly and you can get back to running soon.

Krista - Enjoy your taper. To think you finally wore Hines out, so the pace must not have been too slow.

Sorry to those I missed but it is time to catch up on other things. Next week should be interesting since I am supposed to go back to work for the entire week.

Bill

Dave and Steve! What happens in the marathon, stays in the marathon!;) Sorry Krista!:rotfl:

Matt - Cool pics! You look like you are having a BLAST! Not even tired...please tell me you were tired or I am going to feel out of shape!

I need new running shoes and I have a big bruise on my knee (from falling off the stage) so I was afraid to chance a LR so I did a simi LB (Long bike :goodvibes ). DH came with me for some of it. We had a great time. I did 20 miles. May do another one tomorrow. Or may do a mini brick with more biking than running. No swimming though.

Bill, glad timmy is doing better.:woohoo:

Will catch up later with everyone!

Week two completed AND I'm alive! :woohoo:

Today I had to run 2 minutes, walk two minutes for 40 minutes total. I did 3.31 miles with a pace of 12:12.

Sooo,
week 1 - total 7.18 miles, average pace of 13:27
week 2 - total 9.12 miles, average pace of 12:35

Monday I increase my running to 3 minutes and walk 2 minutes for 50 minutes. I'm a tad scared! :scared:

But, today wasn't too bad. I just hate the hills in the neighborhood and all the people honking at me and waving as they see me suffering. :lmao:

Oh, and DH can't take off from work so I can do the Atlanta Race for the Cure 5K. Bummer.

Shan - Think of your neighbors honking and waving more of an envy thing on their part. You're doing great! Keep up the hard work! You have Team WISH behind you!
Kiena - How great for your daughter on her 5K! How not great for your back! Hope your back doesn't cause any problems for you.
Cam - Rest, relax, get better, see ya in Chi-Town!pixiedust:
Judy - Not noticing...just take it easy on the ankle. Did you get orthotics fitted yet?
Jen Sorry to hear about your involuntary two week vacation from training, but with those orthotics, and the rest, hopefully...you will be in prime shape for your half!
Vic - Great effort getting in your 2.5 on the TM even tough you, your body, and your feet had other ideas.:thumbsup2
Sunny - Hopefully you get out of your funk soon and have a strong 20mile LR this weekend!
Bill - Good to hear those choke free days are adding up. Hopefully it has passed!
Christa - Hope your bruised knee gets better! Hope it wasn't that big of a fall off of the stage! What's a mini brick.....I can only think of a brick as a really bad missed shot in basketball.
Meghan - I doesn't come in WISH green? For shame...:rotfl:

Well today was a beautiful day here in eastern Iowa. My road trip with DW to Dubuque was great, we had a fun time, and when we got back, I got out for 2 miles of a brisk walk/jog for 2 miles. My legs have felt pretty good since Wednesday, so I thought I would try them out. Walked 3 min, jogged 2 min. I feel great! I work a three day stretch starting tomorrow, but may come home on Sunday and do 3min jog, 2min walk for 2 miles on the TM as long as my legs feel good. Will NOT come home tomorrow and do any lower leg exercises, such as squats, lunges, and deadlifts like before. I think that cardio DVD may have had played a part in it as it contained a bunch of jumping, hopping, etc. that stressed my calves too much. Down the road I will ease into strengthening the legs, but they get enough work as it is now.

Happy Training!
