Wishes FP+ Ending

I'm hoping if it is truly eliminated it takes the masses a while to figure it out. We were there for a MNSSHP night and the FP+ area was half empty while the other areas in front of the castle were wall to wall. We are going in May and would love a similar experience :)

This is the first I'd read that the seating is not assigned now. So it's just a free for all now by who gets in line first, they get to pick their own table?

People have been talking about it on the restaurants boards. Apparently it started just recently, hoping it goes back to assigned seating. Where was it announced that FP was officially ending for wishes? Really hoping it's not :guilty:

What if this has to do with ROL opening? The dates line up with the rumored opening of ROL.

It could be IT updating the system with ROL FP+.

Rumor has it that the seating for ROL is probably too small for demand. A lot of guests will be upset if they can't get FP+ for ROL. Isn't it better for Disney to be able to say Sorry about that but look FP+'s are available for Wishes or Illuminations?

So maybe the FP+ for the night time shows will be released later like they used to be. The same argument could be made with the new fireworks at HS. Maybe they are adding a FP+ area for them now that it seems they will be around for a while.

Since this wasn't announced but coincided with the CM cutbacks, I wonder if this is kind of a trial by Disney to see if they can get away with cutting FP entirely for the night time shows. If they don't get a ton of complaints, make it permanent. If it's not available when my FP window opens, I'll probably call to politely complain just to be on record as not liking this cut back.

I had never had an fp for Wishes and was planning on getting one for this trip. If they discontinue, I guess I won't. Oh well. One thing I will not do is the Dessert party. It did not work for me and my family. Huge disappointment.

I'm wondering the same thing myself. It seems too much of a coincidence that these dates line up, and it just makes no sense that they would eliminate the Wishes FP+ so soon after creating a space for it.

I'm guessing they just want to transfer those night time show Fastpass event personnel over to Rivers of Light instead of hiring additional staff.

Aaaaahhh this definitely makes sense. Very wishful thinking - maybe this is only temporary, to give RoL a heavy staff count as they work the kinks out, and then hopefully it will level off as things become more routine and they can staff up the other nighttime experiences again. Hopefully by this summer when we'll be there :)

I agree. Disney specifically designed the hub to include these FP+ areas. Having Wishes FP+ also takes up a fair amount of FP+ capacity which is much needed in the MK.

Please tell me more about this. My husband does not like fighting crowds so I have to be very strategic in my planning. I was planning on a FP for wishes all along but made a Desert Party ADR to help him fell more relaxed just in case FP for Wishes will not be available when we go in May

Tell more about what?
The Wishes Dessert Party?

Seating practice has changed recently.
No more are tables assigned in advance.
Guests now arrive and the tables are parceled out at that time.
Guests can only fully see Wishes if they are seated or standing along the rail of the restaurant.

So it stressful to get a spot along the rail?

That (believe it or not) also remains to be seen. ;)
It looks like they may not be selling as many tables as before (by design or by chance)
and so, it's easier to get "everyone" a better table.

In the PAST... there were only about half (maybe less) of guests with a
table along the rail, and a lot of guests (most?) had to STAND along the rail to see Wishes.

We did not like the Dessert Party because of the off-center view. The fireworks look like they're going off next to the castle instead of behind it which makes for a much less magical experience for us. It is definitely less crowded that the hub area, so it may be worth it to your husband.

My DH is the same way with crowds. When we did the dessert party with the assigned tables we still didn't like it. People still lined up very early to get into the party and then it was lots of shoving to get desserts. The view wasn't that great. The dessert party felt stressful for us. Last year we did the Wishes FP+ and it was the perfect solution. We entered the area about an hour before Wishes and had a seat of the grass and just relaxed. If the Wishes FP+ isn't available for our next trip we will probably skip Wishes all together.

I wonder if they might move to a preferred viewing dining package, like they do in the other parks.

If your husband really hates crowds, the dessert party is a good option. The fireworks are off-center but it's not that bad. Tink flies right over. If it's the choice between not seeing Wishes in the park at all and the dessert party, I would keep the ADR. They also don't rush you out at the end, so you have time to chill while the crowds are exiting.

Following this! I recently booked our August trip for our 20th Anniversary, and not having to jockey for a spot for Wishes on our Anniversary night is one of my priorities for the trip. Had several people steer me toward using a FP rather than spend a LOT of money on the dessert party, for what sounded like not terribly spectacular desserts, and not the greatest view. I still have a bit of time before my FP window opens, though.

The Dibb is now showing no FP availability for Wishes after 4/19. I kept checking daily and today was the first day they updated it. Boohoo! Was really looking forward to trying this in June.
