would it be worth it to try to get illuminations dessert for a prime viewing area? The kids are 9 & 8. Last time we fought the crowds for a prime spot and we all ended up getting separated when 1 had to take a potty break.

I'm just wondering if it's *that* prime of a viewing location, if it would be worth doing the ressie, or maybe just trying to camp out at the entrance of Tomorrowland (I think, the one right by the bridge) and watching it from there..

For Illuminations, almost any area around the lagoon is good viewing. Being upwind is more important, so as to not get all the smoke coming your way. Most reviews of the dessert party are not good, not worht the high price.

I have seen illumination a number of times from all over too and there really is not a bad place if you are around the lagoon I would just walk around the lagoon about an hour before and when you see a nice spot sit and maybe go into what ever county is closes and pick something to eat and have a snack. I have found a spot about 30 minutes before with out any problem at all.

Are you wanting to see Wishes (MK) or Illuminations (Epcot)? If Wishes, that would be the Wishes/Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party. Illumination is the Illuminations Dessert Party. The Illuminations one, I personally would not do it because there are no seats. The Wishes one I would not do becasue I think it's too expensive, but you do get a table. No way am I paying that kind of money to sit on the ground!

Between those options if I was going to do one I would do Wishes. A suggestion would be the dessert party for "Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular" in Hollywood Studios.

IMO, the dessert parties are really a ripoff. there are plenty of great spots to see any fireworks show at WDW.

We did the Wishes one a couple of times when it was about $22 or $25 a head and for that price I thought...well it's ok. But now it is ridiculous and an easy "no".

I don't think you need to do the dessert party just to be able to see. I've walked up many times w/in 15 minutes of the show and found a decent spot. You can even climb the stairs at Canada and see OK if you can't find a spot on the rail.

Also the dessert party doesn't guarantee you a spot at the rail unless you get there early. We were 30 minutes early and did not get a rail table. I was able to step into an empty spot (only big enough for 1 person) to film by standing in front of a trash can between tables where I wasn't blocking anyone, but that was luck & the fact that I was alone. There are no seats so you are standing. I am not knocking the party, just saying I wouldn't pay that much *just* to get a good spot because you still aren't guaranteed a perfect view. Here's my video of the party.
