WISH Away the Pounds Outstanding October Challenge -- Everyone welcome!

TGIF!!

Ok, so I actually started WW on Monday so my weigh in for them isn't until this coming up Monday but so far for today's weigh in here, I am down 3.5 pounds. I always tend to lose a lot of weight the first few weeks on any new diet and then it tapers off.

I'm still trying to read and understand how everything works here on the thread. I did PM my weight to Lisa this morning and hopefully my name will be put on the challenge participate list. I'm excited but I could use all the support I can get, lol! I LOVE sweets and Diet Coke is my absolute worst enemy!!

I also went out and treated myself to some new running shoes and hope to be putting those into good use here really, really soon. I miss running!

I, too, am at a loss this week. Although barely. After about 5 weeks of an average of 3 lbs lost each week, this week I only lost 0.8 lbs. it's good that it's 0.8 lbs in the right direction, but I was so hoping that I would finally be out of the legally "obese" category and onto the overweight category. Oh well. Goal for next week I guess. So weird that at 164 lbs, one would be considered obese. I don't agree with some of these numbers.

Question of the Day

Many of us have been on this journey before. We have all lost and gained. After you have lost some weight were your expectations met or were disappointed?

Dona, thanks for coaching the next days!!!

Also: Pam, thanks for coaching the previous days!!!

:goodvibes

On to the QOTD:

Yes, some of my expecations were met: I felt better about myself, started to see me and my body in a different light and became more confident abuot my appearance and my body.

But some of my expectations were not met - I never will look "tiny" even if I would manage to get my weight down to a BMI of 18 or so. I do have a large built. I am not that tall, but tall enough to never appear petite. Somehow I did not realise that before I lost weight for the first time. I then figured out that for example I will never be able to wear a 32 size bra as the bones in my rib cage even without any additional fat (and muscle) are wider than that.

However, thanks to the confidence I gained as well, by now I have learned to live with that disappointment and instead I focus on other things I like about myself - like pretty nice looking long(ish) legs!

:thanks: Dona for coaching! I need to think about the question so I'll be back later with my answer.

Shockarooni this morning that I do an a LOSER!

Today is my BLAnniversary, one year ago today I had my adrenal glands removed to beat Cushing's disease. I'd like to share my one year ago and now photo if you don't mind :)

Along with what Bryana said the past two days I haven't been perfect on eating and with friends visiting I haven't been able to my hour run or Zumba since Tuesday either. Consequently I was shocked to get on the scale today and have a 2.6 pound loss for the week. That's 3.6 for the month so far and over my goal of 3 pounds total for October. I think this one might be a fluke between the lack of exercise and not monitoring my food as well with friends in town, I think it might have been a muscle tone loss not a weight loss. So anyway, I'm holding my breathe until next Friday because I could definitely see the scale moving back up before it really moves down in earnest.

As for the question of the day. Yes and no. I did this to get healthy, but a lot of my health issues aren't directly related to weight. But I figure why give any other problems a leg up now that I'm getting up there. But the beau got into town last night and he definitely noticed the loss, so that was a big plus. Not that he ever complained before but I get much more self conscious when I weigh more than the guy I'm dating (I know, silly hunter gatherer logic) but it is a powerful incentive for me.

Hope everyone has a great weekend, get out there and enjoy the fun weather and watch the candy bowls! :)

Question of the Day

Definitely disappointed!:sad2: I felt great and thought I would really see a difference in my vacation pics. Then after downloading them, I thought what the heck is going on with my thighs??!!?? :confused3 Everyone has their "hate" spot, and the legs are definitely mine. So even though I had dropped 10 pounds since I had started WW the year before, I was so disappointed that I couldn't see the difference for myself. Now I know things had changed as my pants were fitting looser, but I guess because I couldn't SEE the difference, I felt like a big, fat failure!

Since I'm back to being 10 pounds away from my goal weight, I just have to suck it up and keep up with the tracking, exercising, and be extra careful with the cheating. :goodvibes The fact that it's racing season is great motivation too! :thumbsup2 So close!!!:woohoo: :worship::bounce:

So, I have tracked my breakfast and my lunch for today and planned dinner which leaves me with one point left over! Doing good so far! Weekends usually are good as well, so hopefully by Monday I will have tracked three days in a row and that should be the restart of the routine! Thanks to you all for being there! It really helps to have a place to be accountable for! :thumbsup2

Thanks to all of you for filling up my PM box! :goodvibes It is killing me that I can't open them all right now and update all of our beautiful colors but I am under the gun with my MIL visit in a few hours. I will get to them as soon as I can -- I promise! :flower3:

Cam, I am so sorry that your WI at WW yesterday did not reflect all your hard work but I know there is a whoosh in your future very soon. It still suck I know.

Aww Cam sorry to hear you didn't see what you were expecting.. I don't really know what happened but maybe because you got so many activity points and didn't use them your body is holding on?? Don't lose hope you can do this stay on track and keep your head up!

This is what I love about this thread how helpful and supportive everyone is!

Hi everyone! I see lots of people unhappy with the scale! I know that feeling too well - the one thing I try to keep telling me when I am in that situation: The only way to get the scale going down is to keep doing what you are doing: eating less, exercising more. Don't give up, even if it seems hard. The last thing you want to happen is to be back in the same place where you started out on your weight loss journey!

I stepped on the scale for the first time today after Switzerland and was not happy either: I am up 2 pounds since the start of the months and 4 pounds since a week ago.

Aww, Magdalene, I feel your pain! You are so close and I know you will get to where you want to be very, very soon. :goodvibes

Afternoon all! Back from a frustrating aggravating day at work and about to collapse on my bed to be a vegetable for the night until I spotted my sneakers and remembered my October commitment to you all..... so I'm in my exercise gear, ready to walk. Just waiting for DS to join me for a bit of it.

Not sure if I want to thank you all for keeping me on task or curse you all!:lmao: Anyhow, I'll BB to chat a bit later!...................P

Way to go keeping your commitment even when you were tired, stressed and aggravated! You rock! :rockband:

Sneaked on at work again.........think my own laptop is beyond repair, so looking for a new one this weekend!

That is a bummer but a nice, shiny new fast computer will be great! :cool2:

Good Friday morning everyone. I am Dona and I will be your coach for the next few days. I am a wife , of 35 years, mother of 2 great boys, 28 and 23 and a math teacher for 36 who is now teaching the top students in the school. I also spend time working on quilting, knitting and making costumes for plays for the local high school (not the one I teach at but the one my sons went to) and also for a local theater company.

Question of the Day

Many of us have been on this journey before. We have all lost and gained. After you have lost some weight were your expectations met or were disappointed?

My expectations have been met as far as feeling and looking better but my expectations as how long it it taking me to get back to where I want to be are sorely tested. :sad2: I don't think my life will radically change or get better but I do think my ability to cope with the inevitable ups and downs will be dramatically improved. :hippie:

A better sense of respect from others as I am seeing for the very first time that people are viewing me differently -
now that I am thinner.:goodvibes

Very true! :thumbsup2

Well, I didn't lose any this week, but I didn't gain either, so :woohoo::confused3:woohoo:. Better luck this week, hopefully!

A maintain is always a winner in my book! :woohoo:

Good morning everyone. it's finally friday! :cool1: (although that doesn't mean much when you have to work half days on saturdays:lmao:)

I am a loser again this week with .6 pounds, putting me at 1.4 pounds lost so far this month and 5 pounds since i started the September challenge last month! :cool2:. My goal of 4.6 seems a little far away but I wasn't very rigid with my eating the last two weeks or so. I ate out a lot this past weekend so I am happy to lose at all..

That being said, however, for those of you who are eating within your boundaries and still not losing, my trick is usually just to have a high calorie day (or two!). I'm not saying to run out to McDonald's and getting everything on the menu of course, but a majority of quality, good-for-you calories (for example, brown rice and quinoa can both be high in calories but 300 calories of those is much different then 300 calories of cookies!) with maybe a slight overindulgence. Have your favorite ice cream, have some cupcakes! I don't know if it just works for me as a jump-start/shock to my system, but when I hit a plateau, that's usually what I do and then all of a sudden a pound or two just disappears!

Excellent advice! :thumbsup2 Plus losing that feeling of deprivation will help you stay on track in the long run.

The smilie police say I need two posts to catch up. :rotfl:

TGIF indeed! Stacy, I added your name to the participant's list and will update your colors when I can catch up -- hopefully before MIL arrives. :goodvibes I think that you are going to have a great first weigh in at WW on Monday! :yay:

I've been doing WW since January. I am doing the meetings this time around and that has made a big difference for me as well as the accountability of standing on the WW scale -- the one you can't hit over and over again until you get a number you like. ;) My ActiveLink has really helped me to increase my overall activity level this year, too. And I am totally loving the new habit for the month -- walk 5 minutes every hour! ::yes::

You can do this! :cheer2:

I, too, am at a loss this week. Although barely. Stupid charts -- that seems plain wrong! :furious: I'm sure that you look and feel great after all your hard work. :cool2:

Molli, congratulations on your BLAnniversary! party: party: You look so much happier and healthier now. :cool1: I remember all your struggles trying to figure out what was going on and I am so happy for you that you are firmly on the road to recovery.

:woohoo: for a loss and DBF noticing! :cool2: Thanks for the reminder about the perils of the candy bowl, too! :thumbsup2

Aww, so sorry you were disappointed -- we are our own worst critics sometimes. Racing season is a great motivator for sure! ::yes::

Yes it does! :thumbsup2

I had a big whoosh on my home scale and hope it sticks around for WW next week. Good incentive to watch it this week-end.

And I really, really wish the invisible stinky thing that is in my pantry shows itself in the next few hours before my MIL gets here! :scared::rotfl:

My disappointment is that the one place on my body where I really NEED extra padding seems to be the first place where weight falls from. It's pathetic when your 12-year-old daughter has a bigger cup size than you do. Sigh.

For the first time in the nearly 3 months I've been on this board reporting weigh-ins, I have posted a gain. Of 1.0 pounds, no less. On the plus side, I ramped up my running from 10 miles a week to 15 miles. Unfortunately I have compensated with some extra calories. I've also not been making entries in my food journal as consistently as usual. I need to get back on track, STAT.

bummer. For my height (a whopping 5'2) and age, my "ideal weight" is 110-125.

And here I was aiming for 135. :scared:

Anyone else have this shock? It's a HECK of a lot lower then I ever thought. I might have been 110 in high school but gesh!

Same for me, 5'2" and 110-125. I think I weighed that much when I was 10. I like me with a bit of extra curves. I was 125 in my mid 20's and I had NO shape. I don't want to look like that again. I'm 38 and shooting for 140.

It's even more frustrating to me that I JUST got out of the "Obese" area on the BMI charts. My sister who is 5"6 weighed the same as me (we are doing this weight loss together) and she's on her way out of "Over Weight" now.

I'M JUST ENTERING OVER WEIGHT FROM OBESE.

3 lousy inches difference. :sad2:

I'm aiming for 135 too and I'm only 5'1". I was 115 in high school and when I got married but I'm also not 19 anymore. And at that point I didn't have 4 kids. Yeah I have pudge and I have battle scars from those babies, but I'm ok with that. I feel 1000 times better than I have in 15 years.

I lost this week (4 lbs) but I was sick most of the week. My diet was primarily soup, Popsicles and tea.

Maybe next week ill keep it off and maybe lose a little more

I had a good answer typed and poof it's gone - guess it was for my own personal therapy :rotfl2: so here's my short answer

when I set my mind to lose & lose - my expectations are met - then overtime as I gain a pound here and there and it eventually adds up to 20 lbs - I am disappointed with myself!!

I have been reading and trying to post each day but 4 x now as soon as I am just about ready to submit my post - it does the poof and gone routine - I admit once I have typed out the post I don't retype it - just grumble to myself and move on -

today I am typing again to WISH everyone a great weekend and pixie dust to stay focused on your goal!!

That must be annoying!! One tip on how to save what you have written: Just before you hit "submit reply", highlight all the text you have written and copy it. This way it will still be in your computer's memory. If then the DIS crashes on you, you just go back to the thread, open a reply window and paste it into it. I do that regularly with longer posts. Just as a safety measure. Hope this makes sense! :goodvibes

Good morning everyone! Hope you all have a fabulous start to the weekend! I thought the weekend would be great for me to get back OP, but now a very dear friend has spontaneously announced a visit. So it will be difficult. BUT I am all determined to track everything and just use some of my weekly extra for any treats we might have! Am very excited to see her, it has been nearly 3 years since I saw her last! :cool1:

Happy Saturday morning all! I was going to do some replies, but you all have been very chatty over the past 24+ hours and I'm on myiPad...which I love but type badly on....so you will have to wait until I'm home to do any replies.

I came down last night to stay overnight with DD before bringing her home for the 3 day weekend (Columbus day for those who aren't local). She has an intersquad swim meet this morning plus the team teaches swim lessons on Saturdays, so she can't leave til all that is done. We had a nice dinner here on campus and a good walk and then watch a funny show before bedime. Nice to relax with her a bit.

So now I'm sitting on the pool deck (feels familiar on a Saturday morning!) waiting to watch her.

TTYL...........P

Good Saturday morning everyone.

It has been cloudy and windy since Thursday and we are expecting more of it today. The sun will finally come out tomorrow. Tomorrow is the annual Columbus Day parade. It has traditional passed by at the end of my street so I could just walk down with my chair and enjoy the marchers and the bands. But they changed the route for the first time in the 26 years that I have lived here so I am very disappointed. I loved to see the local high school bands especially the one my sons marched in for 9 years.

Question of the Day

List three things that you feel helps you successful with losing weight.

1. journaling my food
2. giving up sugary drinks
3. exercising

I plan o get some sewing done today. I have way too much to do.

For our Canadian friends Happy Thanksgiving this weekend.

For our American friends Happy Columbus Day. Even though I teach school I am still working on Monday. Yes I get to sit through another insevice day. Lucky me.:sad2:

Have a happy and healthy day.
