The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Owners & Lovers Group - 3.0

In the parks today so plan to take advantage of the special Member viewing area for Paint the Night. Got my wristbands at Starview Station. There were maybe 25 people lined up when I walked by at 1040 and up to 40 when I came back at 1055. By the time it opened I’d guess 65 in line. It moved quickly - they split it inside to wristbands only vs wristbands and lounge. Don’t know how many they will give out but they had a lot of them. The viewing area will be the elevated terrace along the right side walkway to Small World, so a nice large area. Wristbands required as they won’t be given out at the viewing area, also being handed out at Golden Vine.

*********from the MS email -

Great intel!

An update re the PTN wristbands - there were still some left after an hour into the distribution, not sure how long after that before they were gone. And while the email said PTN wristbands could also be picked up at Golden Vine, when I asked at GV about their line at 1100, CM told me because of demand at Starview all were given out in DL. He also said it could change in the future.

Also, today before noon the Starview Station was full between inside and patio, and they had a wait list. That was a first for me, as it was not hot or crowded at the parks today. So my guess is the wristband distribution caused a lot of folks to also head in to the lounge right at opening.

This is one direct perk I would definitely use! We haven't been able to watch parades, shows, fireworks since we had our son because he won't tolerate waiting forever for a decent spot to be able to see.
I’ll report back on how it goes tonight. I was a bit concerned with so many wristbands, knowing how small the viewing areas are for tour guests, but it sounds like we will have the whole upper area which is a rather large space facing the parade route. One CM commented PTN can accommodate a lot more people than WoC which only gets the small viewing area by GV. And part of that is currently blocked with some construction work.

Post-PTN special viewing area recap -

We do not have the entire raised area along Small World promenade. Here is a screenshot of the SW promenade - our viewing area circled in red. So it is a good location towards the start of the parade. The X is where a CM will check wristbands and then lower the rope so we can go in. Those with strollers, scooters, etc, will be directed to the ramp to access the area.

Their info says to be there by 0830pm. I got there around 0730pm, and already a very few folks there. The benches were taken but everything else wide open at that point. By parade start time, the area was full but not packed. Most everyone stood for the parade.

Afterwards, I’d guess at least 75% of the people left. This allowed those who remained lots of room to move around and get a spot for the fireworks and Wondrous Journeys projection on the Small World facade, which comes 15-20 minutes after parade ends. Then, 15 minutes after that ends, for DL70 there is a special projection Tapestry of Happiness on SW in the style of Mary Blair which shows a lot of DL history; this lasts 5-8 minutes. It was really good! At least 80% of the fireworks group had left so for Tapestry there weren’t many of us left. We could view all three from our roped off elevated viewing area which was nice.

Also, a CM mentioned all wristbands were gone by 0130pm, so I’d recommend getting one in the first hour or so to be sure you can get one.

Thanks for the review! I was worried that PTN would not run last night after the weird thunderstorms around dinnertime and into the evening.
