So I've finally hit my brick wall. I'm bummed. Over the last six weeks, I've lost 17 pounds. I was just starting to feel good about actually seeing a difference. And over the last 4 days, I have either stayed put or even have gained back a pound this morning! And I haven't changed my eating habits! In fact, I had soup for both lunch and dinner yesterday. How the heck can I GAIN weight with liquid meals?!??! This Friday's loss is going to be sad for me I think. Wonder what it is that has me at a stand-still.

oh my i'm too far behind to catch up! been down sick for a few days...will rejoin though i'll be gone again all weekend.

DOn't worry about catching up.... just pop in where ever you can! Hope you are on the mend!

:wave2:Hi All!!!

Hoping I can join. I started Weight Watchers on Monday. I need all the support I can get. So far, I'm finding it hard to eat all my points, lol.

I was an avid runner 3 years ago and then I just stopped (not sure why). I have since put back on all my weight and then some due to a leg fracture in April. I visit the DISboards daily, multiple times a day and so I'm hoping that being a part of this thread will help me to stick to my goals!

I'm not sure how all this works on this thread so I'm going to do some reading and if I have any questions, I'll be sure to ask.

WELCOME!!! Feel free to go back and read page one.... it should fill you in on all of the important details! After that, jump right in!!

We are always happy to have a new face and I personally am always glad to meet a fellow WW! And you will have plenty of running friends here as well.

Whenever you are ready feel free to introduce yourself a bit.... and the easiest way to jump in might be to start answering the QOTD!

I'm just now seeing a noticeable difference in the ways my clothes fit. My jeans are fitting better and my favorite pajama bottoms are loose!

It took me 17 pounds lost to notice! Is this typical? Will it continue to be so long for these noticeable milestones?

I'm going to squeeze one more question in today. What is a good timeframe for weights? 10-15 minutes 3 times a week? More? Less?

I used to hear that 10 poundss = 1 size in clothes and I wasn't always sure I believed that.... more recently I've heard 20 pounds = 1 size. So either way, you've probably lost at least a size... so your clothes will definitely be looser!

I'm not the go-to expert on weight training but I've always heard/read it had more to do with the weights and reps than the amount of time you put into it. I'll bet Sparkpeople or MFP has some good information.

My blog post is up!! My blog post is up!! www.teamrundisney.com "Ever have one of those moments..."

WOOHOO... I'll check it out later!

Love your chips/chocolate answer. I've actually been waiting for someone to say "chocolate-covered potato chips"! And I've had them and they are unbelievably good! OOOOPSS.... pretend you didn't hear that!:rolleyes1

DO NOT STRESS!! It was bound to happen.... an unexpected gain or maintain. GIVE YOURSELF A PASS for this week! Chalk it up to salt, hormones, or the weather.... but DO NOT get frustrated. 17 pounds in 6 weeks is BEYOND WONDERFUL.... and now your body needs a week to catch up with itself! And liquid or solid, it is about the calories.

I would definitely recommend staying off the scale for a few days. It is obviously playing stress games with you right now. DO NOT be sad on Friday.... just learn from it.

If you are truly doing everything you should be (weighing/measuring portions, tracking food, exercise, eating the RIGHT foods, getting enough sleep, staying hydrated), then you have no need to worry. The weight will start to come off again. And if it doesn't, then you can come talk to us and we can help you regroup and get things moving in the right direction! :grouphug:

*****************

Afternoon everyone! Short and sweet work day! Fourth load of wash for the day is running, sheets and towels are in off the line (and barely dry in this changing fall sunlight) and jeans were moved to the front of the house to catch the end-of-the-day sunshine. Dishwasher is running too. Now time to figure out dinner. I didn't plan tonight's meal over the weekend because I didn't have DH's schedule yet. He is away today but said he'd be back tonight.... but I don't know if that meant for dinner, for Survivor, or late, so I need to text him.

As soon as I get dinner started I'll get my mile walk done...hopefully even two miles! Then I need to remake all the beds...:rolleyes:

Oooopss... gotta check a few things online first, before the evening gets away from me! BBL to chat.................P

Thanks Kimberley and Pamela. :)

Hope you are feeling better Molli. :)

I don't know where you started, but I think that is pretty typical. I lost ~50 in 2010 and didn't really notice much for the first 20 or so and then things really changed. Some of that came from wearing clothes that were too tight when I was overweight and taking a long time to go down a size. Some of it came from building muscle. For instance I put some weight back on but I see pictures of myself several years ago at the same weight and I still think I look better now--I have a lot more muscle this time. Hope this helps.

When my workouts are going well (meaning no injuries) I try to go to two strength classes a week. They last about 45 min. I don't do weights well on my own, so the classes really help.

Are you getting enough calories? Not enough calories can cause you to hold onto weight. Don't be sad. It's just one week. And it's still two days away. :)

Our poor little doggie is peeing all over herself. It's pretty awful. She's going to get a different pain med and some oral steroids so hopefully that will help.

I did a 40 min strength class, 60 min yoga class, a mile on the elliptical and I am going to walk a mile tonight. It is my day off and I am determined to not eat my way through the stress. :)

Hope everyone has a good night.:goodvibes

Good reminder that we need to be eating ENOUGH so we don't shut down our metabolism!

Glad you are finding a productive way to deal with the stress! That's an amazing amount of exercise! Don't get hurt.

Walk is done, but I only did 1 mile... it was getting too chilly and I wasn't dressed right for it!

Laundry is all in, but the jeans just HAD to take a quick tumble in the dryer.... they were just too damp. Pizza crust dough is rising, so I will have that rolled out and on the grill soon. Still not sure about DH, so he gets leftover chicken soup from the weekend if he makes it home for dinner. I'm making myself a low carb tortilla pizza loaded with veggies!.......................P

I know that there are a few crockpot recipes on the WISH recipe thread and I have a few standby tried-and-true ones here in my book that I'd be happy to share. It really can be SO EASY! Something as simple as the rosemary roasted chicken I have on the recipe thread. If I chop the veggies the night before (or even a few days ahead), I can literally get the crockpot loaded and cooking within 10 minutes before I leave in the morning. Then I get home to a wonderful smelling house and a FULL DINNER in one pot, ready to eat!! It is NEARLY like having a dinner fairy!!

Rosemary chicken sounds yummy! Something the whole family could enjoy! I have never left my crockpot on while I wasn't home, is it safe? I'm assuming the only thing that happens is the yummy meal you have waiting for you from the dinner fairy!

How great to hit a NEW milestone!!! Congratulations!!!

Thank you! Small goals turn into big goals!

Wow did I have a long day! Up at 5 for my run, and it was in the 50's! This is super cold for me and let me tell you, I did not enjoy those cooler temps!Had work until around 4:30, and even though I've had a long day. I am heading out for a walk in the park with my parents (despite the cooler temps :lmao: ) and then to the gym! Haven't thought about supper yet, maybe some nice warm soup! Won't be homemade, but should still be good! Hope everyone had a great day!

I did see that you commented on my quote about using the crockpot and I just wanted to say that I understand your hesitation about leaving the pot on while you're not home, but that is essentially what is was made to do. If you feel unsure about it, you could try it out a few times while you were going to be around or in and out during the day. I also try to put mine on top of the (cold) range. I figure that way if something overheats or boils over, it won't start a fire on the counter top. I figure any fire would hopefully burn itself out on top of the range. I"m also very careful about keeping a good eye on the cords and such on my crockpots. The heating element in my favorite one was definitely showing its age, so I tossed it.... and found the IDENTICAL ONE, NEW IN THE PACKAGE at a yard sale about a week later! Karma! And if I have a new recipe to try I usually make it at least once on a weekend, just in case it cooks faster (or slower or whatever) than the recipe indicates.

Anyhow, they cook so slowly that it wouldn't do you much good to start it up when you got home, unless you get home around noon. Most newer crockpots have a function where it will turn itself to "warm" when it is done cooking the number of hours indicated. My big one (yes, I have MANY of them :thumbsup2 ) has the options of 4 or 6 hours on high or 8 or 10 hours on low before it goes to "warm". One of my middle sized ones is essentially a crockery sleeve inside a nonstick deep fryer and as such the temp control is much more variable and it can actually get really hot. It doesn't have the "warm" feature, so I tend to use that one more when someone will be home. My littlest one has NO features.... plug it in it is on.... unplug it it is off! I use a timer to turn it on later if I need it to cook for less hours (for example if I want to set it up before bed to do steel cut oats overnight... it doesn't need more than 6 or 7 hours).

Anyhow, I do love crockpots and could ramble on forever, but I'll stop there!

I'm with you on the lake/ocean thing.... I would have the exact same answer!
Woohoo that you'll be here on Friday to coach! Hope things are going well for you this October!

Well friends, the evening is definitely getting away from me! I've had my roasted veggies (green beans and carrots).... a huge portion and they were YUM, but my low carb tortilla pizza is just finishing up in the toaster oven. I wanted to take the time to get the sheets on the beds before eating my meal so I could RELAX and enjoy it! But now it is getting late!

Not sure if I am working tomorrow or not. She asked if I were available and I said I was so she told me to check in when I get up. I'll call around 6 am. I'll definitely lay out an outfit tonight, just in case, and I still have a few servings of 13 bean soup that I froze last week, so I can pull one out in the morning and throw it in my lunch sack with an apple!

I'll try to pop on here again this evening for the West Coasters, but no promises! If not, I'll be on in the a.m. with my final QOTD!....................P

I'll BBL to chat.... gotta get the laundry moving first!............P

Morning again! Three beds stripped, sheets washed and hung out..... one load of towels washed and hung out, and one load of jeans currently in the washer. So obviously today's "day off" is LAUNDRY DAY!!:laundy: But BRRRRR my fingers were FREEZING! It was a brisk 38 degrees when I was hanging out the first load! But the sun is shining now so I need to take advantage of the weather while I can!

Brrrrr. It was 42 here this morning and I am not ready for it. Although, it did warm up to sunny and 70. I'm just enjoying this weather before that dreaded 4 letter S word shows up :rotfl:

I'm waiting for it to warm up a bit before I head out for today's mile. I may do one mile this morning and then another with DS when he gets home. He is so sedentary now that he isn't involved in a team sport. Other than paintball, which he hasn't done in a while, he has no real "active" hobby. So I drag him, kicking and screaming, out for a walk with me after school when I can. He hates it, but he is such a good kid that he will go to make me happy. It is also a nice time to have a chat, so it is a win-win.

Well, I'm currently "cooking up" an idea for a small side business that I may start up, so I need to brain storm on that for a bit today.... plus my trip with DS to Minecon is coming up quickly and it dawned on me at 4 am today that I don't have rental car reserved yet. Plus I'm still working on changing our plane tix, so I need to check the prices today. And of course, laundry, dishes, etc. Plus I would LOVE to do some scrapping today! Time to get back on track with that!

Ohhhhhh...a side business? You have my attention :)
I had to Google Minecon and what a great mom you are!

Hope you all have a great day! I'll check in a bit later this morning to see how our West Coasters are doing...................P

oh my i'm too far behind to catch up! been down sick for a few days...will rejoin though i'll be gone again all weekend.

Hello and welcome :) If you read the 1st few posts, you should understand the layout. And, we can be a chatty bunch, so jump right in and join us!

My blog post is up!! My blog post is up!! www.teamrundisney.com "Ever have one of those moments..."

Ooooohhhh....I'll have to look at this in a bit.

So I've finally hit my brick wall. I'm bummed. Over the last six weeks, I've lost 17 pounds. I was just starting to feel good about actually seeing a difference. Don't be bummed. I think most of us have been there. Honestly, I've found that my plateaus have no rhyme or reason. I know you had soup for two meals and I agree that maybe you're not getting enough calories or the soup had too much sodium. But, stick with it and we are here to help if you need it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good evening everyone. I am very proud of myself for being here and more active this month compared to last month. But, I am so tired right now that I am going to get organized for tomorrow and head to bed. I have Friday and Monday off of work (and my kids are off of school, too), so I should have more time to reply and chit-chat then. Have a great night.
Hi! :)
My crazy week is all flowing along according to plan - so far! :) The deposition was shorter than expected, hopefully because the opposing counsel figured out I can't actually be that helpful to their case. *whew* Got a 4-mile run in yesterday afternoon while it was cool-ish and sunny out, and then my uncle arrived! He's here for two nights, and it's really fun to see him, especially with DDs. He's my dad's younger brother, and they definitely noted the family resemblance. He's also a total goofball, and we're having fun. :)
This morning, I powered through work I got behind on because of the deposition and the Monday board meeting/deposition prep. Chiropractor and a cashier's check over lunchtime, and then DH came home & we closed on our refi! So happy to have a shorter term and a lower rate. I just got back from DD's gymnastics.
One more day of crazy, and then I head to CT for the Hartford Half! :yay: I'm so happy to get to see my cousin, my mom, and two of my aunts! And I'm hoping for a good race - the weather is looking just about perfect, and I am committing Jeff Galloway's emailed race plan to memory... Any CT peeps going to be at the race?
The only hitch this week has been food. I feel like I've been using it as a coping mechanism, and today I tore into a whole lot of bottle caps (Wonka Bottle Caps - one of my absolute favorite candies). I could do worse for a candy splurge, but it's still not good. I think I just hit a point where I fell back into my old habit of self-medicating my stress with food. Gotta try and keep it in line tomorrow. I'm also working on staying hydrated.
Today's mail also brought an invite to test Magic+ on DH's and my trip down for Wine & Dine - woo!! We're DVC, and of course, we have a 1-night booking followed by a 3-night booking because of how the availability played out. So we ended up signing on and customizing two sets of bands. I'm sure we'll get all that sorted out, but I'm definitely psyched to be able to use the Magic bands on this trip! Between my Garmin, my FitBit Flex, and my Magic Band, I'm going to be completely connected to everything!
It's raining here, and it's cooled down a bunch. I have some work I should really get done tonight, but I kind of just want to curl up with either my Kindle or my DVR instead...no more food tonight!!
XO
Well I am back from my trip!! Drove from Ohio out to Lincoln, Nebraska for a dog show :) was a long time in the car (not to mention bad for my diet) but we had a great time. Trying to get back in the swing of things now.
Ok.....this is going to sound crazy but here goes.
these past 2 days when I would step on the scale, the numbers wouldn't stand still!! They kept on going up and down, etc.
Then, on day two, I burped while I was weighing myself and talk about accidental VIOLA!! ** THE SCALE STOPPED BOUNCING UP & DOWN W/THE NUMBERS **
(WHAT??):confused3
So, IMO - water & or gas does crazy things to our bodies. :upsidedow
Again, crazy as it sounds but hey - ya r down 17 lbs!! - WOO-HOO!!:goodvibes
I'm just now seeing a noticeable difference in the ways my clothes fit. My jeans are fitting better and my favorite pajama bottoms are loose!
I'm going to squeeze one more question in today. What is a good timeframe for weights? 10-15 minutes 3 times a week? More? Less?
IMO, it varies from person to person.:goodvibes
ME?
I lift weights (on an old school universal weight machine) 4 times a week for 1 hour at a time cuz I feel that one hour give a body the most optium time allowed to feel the maxium effects of weight lifting.
Allrightee everyone, I am about to go home & play Clara Barton with Ladybug :hyper:
since last night when we were playing "Fling & Fetch," she turned her head and went right into the staircase banister.:sad:
She looked stunned as I immediately stopped everything and issued her comfort and emotional "First Aid.":sad:
She wasn't feeling it for the rest of the night so hope all is better when I get home.:goodvibes
Doing great this week - have had a few stressors come down on me (TX vs OU is this weekend - ACK!!!! - we are oversold at work!!) but didn't bend one bit as I am determined to continue down this path of self discovery while enjoying the new me.:woohoo:
Happy Thursday everyone! I'm off to work but here is today's QOTD!!
QOTD for Thursday, October 10, 2013:
What do you hope to GAIN by LOSING???
BBL today to chat!................P
Hi Everyone
This 'no laptop' thing is killing me....can't cope with posting on here on my phone!!! Just stealing a couple of minutes at work to let you all know I'm still alive and haven't abandoned you!
QOTD Thursday....I am hoping to gain some extra years on my life by losing weight and keeping fit!!!
Second night of training tonight for my 10K...I've settled into doing the 5K for speed on a Saturday morning, 5K relaxed speed on a Monday Evening and more distance on a Thursday evening with no speed pressure....I'm aiming for 8K on the treadmill tonight.
Bought some cold weather running gear, so will be trying that out for the first time on Saturday. Temp here is down to 8 C now, so I'm feeling a bit chilly even when running. Going looking for a new pair of running shoes this weekend, I have been recommended Brooks Ravenna 4 and Ghost 6 as being suitable, but need to travel to bigger cities to specialist shops to try them on before buying online!!
Stayed off the scales this week so far, but hoping for a pleasant surprise on Friday morning!!!
Pam-could the steroids be contributing to all the accidents? I know it's a common side effect since the 'roids make them so thirsty. :confused3
QOTD for Thursday, October 10, 2013:
What do you hope to GAIN by LOSING???
Less pain in the knees and faster race times. Plus a little more space in my clothes! :goodvibes
I know what you mean about the scale doing crazy things. ::yes:: I found if I place the scale just a few inches off from where I put it down the previous day, the numbers will change. Wednesday, I was 2 pounds less than on Tuesday and the same exact weight today. Who knows WHAT is possessing that thing?!:confused3 As long as the numbers keep decreasing though, I'll take it! :cool1: :thumbsup2
I'm happy to say the temps have still been yummy warm but the humidity has felt like a solid wall. :crazy2: When I let the Wonder Mutt out this morning though, I actually felt a bit of coolness in the air (at least MY version of cool :rotfl:). :cool1: My phone says it's 65 right now, but I'm positive it's warmer than that, and 96% humidity, which doesn't feel that way at all! Can't wait for this weekend though, as we're taking the top off the Jeep, driving A1A along the beach, and heading up to Jupiter to the Square Grouper. Yes (and my mother would be so proud), I'm actually eating fish! :cheer2: Being a vegetarian, or as someone pointed out to me, a pescetarian (as I still eat fish/dairy), isn't quite as difficult as I thought it would be. :goodvibes
What does everybody have on tap for the weekend? :beach:
Ouch! Hope that hip feels better soon. Does it seem like a bony/joint type thing or just a pulled/strained muscle?? Good thing you are seeing your doctor soon.
I agree that it is hard when people in the household aren't onboard with getting healthier... but I am here to tell you that it CAN be done.... and you can be a great EXAMPLE to them! Many years back DH and I were losing weight for Disney.... he chose Atkins (this was his first or second go around with that) and I chose WW.... it was difficult to plan meals (plus the kids were little), but at least we were both working toward a common goal of losing weight. He lost about 60 pounds that year and I lost about 40..... but then the trip came and we collectively fell off the wagon over the next few years. I regained about half.... he regained all and then some!
When 2008 and another Disney trip rolled around, I got back in the wagon and put myself to work to lose again.... but he wasn't so inspired that time. I spent all of 2008, all of 2009, and the majority of 2010 losing weight and maintaining while he continued to eat unhealthy, be totally inactive, and gain and gain. It was HARD.... plus it was so sad for me to see him continue to be so tired and unhappy with his weight, but I really said NOTHING. I would wager that most overweight people KNOW they are overweight and saying something to them isn't going to help them make the decision that they need to start taking care of themselves!!
It wasn't until DH's accident in 11/2010 and having to have his mouth wired shut for 8+ weeks that things changed. He lost so much weight during that time and THANKFULLY he was inspired to CONTINUE to lose weight. I think he finally saw the TOLL that the extra weight took on his body while he was recovering from his accident... plus of course, the kick-start of losing all that weight during his recovery was a big incentive.
I will say that once or twice between 2008 and 2010 when DH expressed an interest in WW, I did mention to him that I would be HAPPY to help him get started. But he needed to be ready to do it his own way on his own terms. You know, the old.... you can lead a horse to water... scenario.
So set a good example, both with your eating and exercise. Talk about how GREAT you feel, show him that you are ENJOYING eating the healthier foods... and you may lead him to the right place!!...................P
Thanks Pam and you are absolutly correct about can't do it till you are ready.. I tell hubs all the time I love you and I want you around for a long long time but I also understand that you are not ready till you are ready.. I am trying to help him not eat so many carbs with dinner - I can control this for him :) If I don't make them he doesn't eat them Haaa
I need to give up the coke (yet again!). I am not drinking much (sharing a couple a week with Mike). But I just crave it. Today (even after a rough start to the day) I stuck with black coffee so I am proud of myself. But I did have some junky food at lunch. Best I could do today. :)
I am trying to remind myself "you can't control your world just your reaction to it" but I could use a stress free day. Not that things have been that bad around here, just chronically stressful--maybe that is just life and I am hoping for too much.
Our mini dachshund (who is 15) has a herniated disc. She got up this morning and couldn't move her hind legs. This has happened before. She got a big dose of steroids, pain meds and muscle relaxants and now we wait to see if the paralysis is permanent. After just going through what we went through with Petie this summer, it is a little overwhelming. We have to keep her quiet for 6 weeks--right now she can't really move and isn't trying. So any good thoughts you can send our way are appreciated.:goodvibes
I am going for a run tonight. I hope it's a good run, cause I could use some runner endorphins.:goodvibes
Rose I love this quote "you can't control your world just your reaction to it" and man how true right! I hope you little doggie is getting better each day..
