WISH Away the Pounds -- Delightful December Challenge -- Everyone Welcome!

I am SOOOOOO in!
cookie season?

HA! I eat cookies for breakfast.... er... I mean, I'm NOT gonna eat cookies for breakfast!

:lmao:

I'm in! I vanished in a busy November and gained a few...then lost a bit over Thanksgiving (miracle). DH and I are going away December 14-20, so I may be a half-timer this month, but I need you guys! ;)

XO
Liz

Nice to see you! :flower3:

I'm in! I'm knee deep in princess training and while it's going well, my weight has seriously plateaued. I need a kick start it again this month to get some more weight off the old knees.

That is one of the tough things about getting into the higher mileage, the weight doesn't follow. :hugs: In a few short weeks you will be sporting some beautiful bling! princess:

Hi I am in for Dec but decided to be a maintainer.. We have lost a car due to a deer accident (my son hit a 140 lb 6 point buck on Tuesday 11/26 on the way home from Hockey practice) so we are down to one car for 3 people so Zumba and Hooping class are a no go for me till I get the car fixed.. HOWEVER it only had Liability so all repairs are out of pocket right at Xmas/K1 time NOT good for the pocketbook.. but my son is OK! that is what really matters.. anywho I'll be back tomorrow to check the updates, I was off last week from work and my desk is a MESS.. LOL.. PMing my starting weight now..
Michelle

So sorry for the trouble, Michelle! :flower3: And very happy your DS is okay. :goodvibes

Watch out, she's back! :scared1: Hi ladies! :wave2: Things have calmed down just enough that I can actually catch my breath for just a second. :scared: My weight has definitely plateaued and I SO need to get back on the wagon with the Donald Half coming up in January. Plus, seeing as I hit 46 today (OMG REALLY?!! Where the heck did THAT come from?!?! :faint:), I can't think of a better time to jump back into the swing of things. :thumbsup2

Thanks Mag for coaching this month! :flower3:

How was everyone's Turkey Day last week? The Wonder Mutt spent the ENTIRE afternoon jumping into our friend's pool. And I mean ENTIRE afternoon! Wish I could siphon on just some of her energy!

That is such a great picture of the Wondermutt! Our labradog would be doing exactly the same thing. :dog:

Unofficial QOTD for Tuesday, December 3, 2013:

What kind of a cook are you??

A. I ALWAYS use a cookbook/recipe to do everything except boil water.

B. I use a recipe for a main course, but I can wing it for almost everything else.

C. I NEVER use a recipe and don't own a cookbook.... I fly by the seat of my pants in the kitchen!

D. Cook? What's that? My cookbook cupboard is full of take-out/take-away menus and the local pizza shop is on speed dial!! I use my oven to hide Christmas gifts in!!

E. Other (please explain).

I'd say I'm a cross between A and C -- I do use recipes but I fly by the seat of my pants alot too. ;)

My splurge meal Friday was very yummy and worth waiting for. ::yes::

Yesterday I downloaded a new WW app for Simple Start that looks very exciting! :yay: Who doesn't need a little autopilot this time of year? :santa: I hear the official kick off isn't until next week. :ssst:

I sent a PM

Just throwing everything out there!

My goal is to be under 150 pounds by the new year!

I'm at 156 currently.

WISH me luck! I started in August at almost 180 pounds so this is huge for me.

I feel more responsible if I'm just honest and open with my numbers. :hippie:

:woohoo: You're in the home stretch! Go! Go! Go! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Ok, the first page should have everyone who sent me a PM now! Please let me know if you don't see your name.

Sorry for the sluggish start for the thread! These past days have been so busy, but the rest of the month will be better!!

I am happy to see so many people along for our strong finish of the year 2013!

We are currently without a coach, but Lisa will start coaching on Friday. If anyone wants to jump in with a QOTD until then, please feel welcome to do it, just as Pamela did today! Thanks for that!!

There are also still some coaching positions open, I am still sorting out dates between those who already signed up. But we could still use one or two people! So don't be shy and send me a PM if you think you can do it! It really is not difficult, you are just responsible for posting a Question of the Day (and there is even an archive for that to give you inspiration) and try to help to get the chatter moving a bit. It is only for five days! And a lot of people find that those are the days they are super motivated to stay on track with eating and exercising, too! So think about it, you don't need any special qualifications!!

QOTD:

Very much A. I love cooking after recipes. I do often change them up a bit, but make nots about what I do and why. But there are also a number of things that I just know how to cook and don't need a cookbook for. But I rarely try something new without having a recipe for it.

QOTD: I guess I got in the "other" category. I'm the type that collects all kinds of recipes that I more than likely will never use or will alter it to make it my own. I don't know why I even bother looking at recipes! But I love love love to cook and there is always something in my fridge. We hardly do dinners out at all.

I too am like Ohana4...keep lots of clippings, own loads of books, but only use them for ideas......whatever I actually cook comes straight out of my head!!

Morning all! Working at school today, so I will be popping on again later when the kids go to Music. But for now, I just wanted to say hello!

I"ll post another QOTD later this morning if no one else has jumped on with one.

Lisa.... glad you found the new app! Official roll-out of the app was supposed to be yesterday, but we were told that there was a delay... but apparently not, if you found it! I will be loading on my iPad later. ( :ssst: I've been trying the "new" plan for a few weeks and despite my initial reservations, I really like it and I think it helped me get down a few pounds before Thanksgiving! That being said, it isn't terribly different than the way I eat every day anyhow.) We don't introduce the new stuff in meetings until next week for newbies and in January for current members.... but if you want more information ASK at your meeting! They (should) have everything on hand already.

I heard the kids coming down the hall! TTYL..........P

Okay.... I don't see a QOTD for today yet (although I admit, the West Coasters really haven't had a chance yet).... so I'll post a FUN question.... and it is a bit self-serving since I need help with some ideas!

Unofficial QOTD for Wednesday, December 4, 2013:

A friend (;) ) is creating a "50 before 50" bucket list, but is struggling to come up with ideas. She has broken it down into 5 categories....

10 things that are an adventure.

10 things that are a service to others.

10 things that will create a lasting legacy.

10 things that are just for fun.

10 random acts of kindness.

Keeping a tight budget in mind (so the adventures cannot be a 2 week trip abroad, all inclusive :sad2: ) and the limited time (just over 6 months).....

what idea(s) do YOU have for your friend???

And as a follow up.... do you have a BUCKET LIST? What's on it??

I'll be back later to share the ideas I already have written down (curious to see how many of you might suggest things I've already thought of).........P

I'm definitely a "B" type of person. I can do some great easy sides without a cookbook, but for a casserole or soup or anything that involves more than 3 ingredients, I usually use a cookbook. I have NO natural knack for knowing what spices and flavors go well together. That being said, I am always tweaking my recipes to make them suit us better. And I have created a few of my own recipes, but they are often based off of an idea/recipe I've found elsewhere.

Ugh, weighed in this morning and I an back up to 173.4, I was down to 169 at one point. I need to stop grazing!! I hate this cold and dreary weather, it keeps me inside and when DS and DH start a fire I want to do nothing but sit in the living room and eat.

How frustrating... especially when you are working so hard with the training. Keep on working at it.... you can do it! And I can't WAIT to see pictures from the "big run" you've got coming up!! ;)

Huge thanks for keeping us on track and organized for December!!!

Okay... the kiddos are off to art class, so I have a few minutes! I really did NOT want to work today, especially since I got home relatively late from my WW meeting last night (for a good reason though... we were SUPER busy!!). But I want the option to say "no" to work when DD is home over break, so I will work now. The laundry can wait, right??

Off to see what my friends on the Budget Board are chatting about today!......P

I'm mostly an "e"; If any celeb chef speaks to my inner chef, it is Sandra Lee. I like to take prepared foods and dress them up with a special presentation. Ideally, I'd love to do everything from scratch and cook it expertly, but I save so much time with pre-chopped salads and frozen chicken.

anyone here into Bento Boxes? I have a bit of a habit with making my girls' lunches...

Well for an adventure how about a 1 hr road trip in any direction to a new place she has never been, or hiking a new trail?

for service to others - helping in a soup kitchen or the local food pantry?

a lasting legacy - maybe a little recipe book of family recipes handed down from generation to generation

for fun - everyone had different ideas of fun - but going on a picnic and playing frisebe (sp), jumping rope or hula hooping, going to a playground and sliding or swinging.. maybe just something like running and jumping into the lake!

random acts of kindness - paying for someones coffee/dinner, leaving an extra tip for a kind waitress/waiter, handing out lollypops to little ones having a tough time in line at the store, bringing a bag of pet food to the local shelter.

tell your friend good luck - this is really an awesome idea, she should get pictures of each thing and make a scrapbook!

I do not have a bucket list per say altho I do have things I'd like to do I should write them down and keep track. Great question!!

Hi! Checking in from bronchitis land, but I think I'm almost over it!

We were at MIL's for Thanksgiving, and DH and I did a Dopey rehearsal, ending in a 24-mile walk/run early Saturday morning. I believe I'll actually be able to do this now! I was good and sick by Sunday night and went to the doc on Monday morning. He put me on antibiotics, cough capsules, and a steroid to take the inflammation down because (drum roll) I'm soloing in three performances of the Messiah this weekend! Kind of need my voice back... :)

Today is the first day I've felt almost good. I went out for a short 1-mile jog this morning to see how it felt, and it was good. I think I'll do 2 tomorrow if it's not raining to ease back in.

I'm liking the new WW app so far! Can't wait to hear about the programmatic changes...

Weight has been weird for the past month. I found 5-6 pounds pretty inexplicably in the space of two days right before Thanksgiving. No idea where they came from, and I pulled two off over the holiday weekend. It's frustrating, but I'm trying to double down on points counting, etc. while I'm getting my strength back. I honestly think running isn't the best exercise for weight loss (better for maintaining), but it's what I do and love. So now I just need to get back to goal and figure out how to maintain there while still fueling well for races.

QOTDs!

12/3 - I am a recipe follower. To the letter. DH is a wing-it cook, and he makes delicious things! I just have to keep him in the mindset of light on oil/butter. He's low-carb on purpose (and a type 1 diabetic), so he cooks healthy, but he does love the butter...

12/4 - I love random acts of kindness. These have been done before, but I think their anonymity is what makes them so special:
*pay for the person behind you at the drive-thru
*especially this time of year - go to WalMart, KMart, etc - anywhere with layaways - and pick up the tab for a family's layaway. It's easier or harder to do this depending on your local store, but I've been able to ask to cover a certain dollar range and a list with toys, for example. Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. :)

Time to go pick up the kiddos and get on with this day! I need about 5 more hours a day with work and holiday prep...I'm hoping to get some early wrapping done tonight. My mom is visiting this weekend, and I'm sending her back home with her presents as well as those for my sister and nieces, who will be with her at Christmas. DH and I are going on the ABD Backstage Magic trip, leaving 12/14, so I'm working hard to be done with everything before then - the holiday will be right on top of us when we get back! It's a big 10th anniversary present to ourselves, and I'm really looking forward to it, but I'm feeling a little insane in retrospect for having booked a trip the week before Christmas...

XO

Good evening all :)

I am having a tough first week of December. I swear there is just not enough time for things! I am completely swamped at work with mid-term grades due, 2 new students whose IEPs need revised, all of my IEP progress reports due, oh, and did I mention I am giving the PA state literature test today and tomorrow? So, my computer time at work has been sucked dry by my iep program and grades. I barely have time for the computer at home, but wanted to check in. I probably won't be on again until Friday or this weekend. Hopefully, things will slow down and I can WISH during my lunch break again next week :thumbsup2 I hope everyone is doing well, and I will "talk" to you guys later.

I think this is a WONDERFUL idea! I remember seeing something like this fall out of my mother's purse a few years back...

The breakdown is very helpful, since I wouldn't know where to start on something like that.

Is your friend as into Disney as you are? There has to be something in the World she hasn't done yet that could make the adventure portion...

I don't have a list myself, but I am going to start working on one ;D

Good morning all! :goodvibes

I'll start my coaching gig a day early and post a QOTD for today since we don't have one yet.

QOTD Thursday, December 5, 2013: Heigh Ho, Heigh Ho, It's Off to Lose Weight We Go! (recycling from the previous BL Challenges -- it's good for the environment!) If you were one of the seven dwarfs, which one would you be today -- Happy, Grumpy, Sleepy, Doc, Sneezy, Bashful or Dopey?

BRB with replies!

I enjoyed the bucket list question and answers even though I didn't get a chance to answer it. :cool2: Tell your friend there is lots of time AFTER 50 to do cool stuff, too, so not to worry if it takes awhile to get to everything on the list. :flower3:

:woohoo: on the Dopey training! I think it takes a lot of work for your body to heal from the back to back runs so that may account for some of the weight.

I'm going with Doc today -- feeling a little bit flustered trying to get all my things done, make sure I get to my regular WW meeting, and making sure that I have sufficient provisions in case we decide to stay out of the bitter cold this week-end. :cold:

Grumpy.

A friendly reminder that tomorrow is weigh in day! :santa:
