WISH Away the Pounds -- Delightful December Challenge -- Everyone Welcome!

Well for an adventure how about a 1 hr road trip in any direction to a new place she has never been, or hiking a new trail?

for service to others - helping in a soup kitchen or the local food pantry?

a lasting legacy - maybe a little recipe book of family recipes handed down from generation to generation

for fun - everyone had different ideas of fun - but going on a picnic and playing frisebe (sp), jumping rope or hula hooping, going to a playground and sliding or swinging.. maybe just something like running and jumping into the lake!

random acts of kindness - paying for someones coffee/dinner, leaving an extra tip for a kind waitress/waiter, handing out lollypops to little ones having a tough time in line at the store, bringing a bag of pet food to the local shelter.

tell your friend good luck - this is really an awesome idea, she should get pictures of each thing and make a scrapbook!

I do not have a bucket list per say altho I do have things I'd like to do I should write them down and keep track. Great question!!

All wonderful ideas! Thanks!

Hi! Checking in from bronchitis land, but I think I'm almost over it!

We were at MIL's for Thanksgiving, and DH and I did a Dopey rehearsal, ending in a 24-mile walk/run early Saturday morning. I believe I'll actually be able to do this now! I was good and sick by Sunday night and went to the doc on Monday morning. He put me on antibiotics, cough capsules, and a steroid to take the inflammation down because (drum roll) I'm soloing in three performances of the Messiah this weekend! Kind of need my voice back... :)

Today is the first day I've felt almost good. I went out for a short 1-mile jog this morning to see how it felt, and it was good. I think I'll do 2 tomorrow if it's not raining to ease back in.

So impressed that you are up and moving again so soon! And I'm double impressed about the Messiah performances! Any video to share??

I'm liking the new WW app so far! Can't wait to hear about the programmatic changes...

As a current member you won't hear more until January unless you ask.

Weight has been weird for the past month. I found 5-6 pounds pretty inexplicably in the space of two days right before Thanksgiving. No idea where they came from, and I pulled two off over the holiday weekend. It's frustrating, but I'm trying to double down on points counting, etc. while I'm getting my strength back. I honestly think running isn't the best exercise for weight loss (better for maintaining), but it's what I do and love. So now I just need to get back to goal and figure out how to maintain there while still fueling well for races.

Stay strong for those races! I know that you know what to do!

QOTDs!

12/3 - I am a recipe follower. To the letter. DH is a wing-it cook, and he makes delicious things! I just have to keep him in the mindset of light on oil/butter. He's low-carb on purpose (and a type 1 diabetic), so he cooks healthy, but he does love the butter...

Lucky you to have a DH who cooks!

12/4 - I love random acts of kindness. These have been done before, but I think their anonymity is what makes them so special:
*pay for the person behind you at the drive-thru
*especially this time of year - go to WalMart, KMart, etc - anywhere with layaways - and pick up the tab for a family's layaway. It's easier or harder to do this depending on your local store, but I've been able to ask to cover a certain dollar range and a list with toys, for example. Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. :)

I'll add them to the list!! Thanks!

Time to go pick up the kiddos and get on with this day! I need about 5 more hours a day with work and holiday prep...I'm hoping to get some early wrapping done tonight. My mom is visiting this weekend, and I'm sending her back home with her presents as well as those for my sister and nieces, who will be with her at Christmas. DH and I are going on the ABD Backstage Magic trip, leaving 12/14, so I'm working hard to be done with everything before then - the holiday will be right on top of us when we get back! It's a big 10th anniversary present to ourselves, and I'm really looking forward to it, but I'm feeling a little insane in retrospect for having booked a trip the week before Christmas...

WOOHOO for vacation!

Good evening all :)

I am having a tough first week of December. I swear there is just not enough time for things! I am completely swamped at work with mid-term grades due, 2 new students whose IEPs need revised, all of my IEP progress reports due, oh, and did I mention I am giving the PA state literature test today and tomorrow? So, my computer time at work has been sucked dry by my iep program and grades. I barely have time for the computer at home, but wanted to check in. I probably won't be on again until Friday or this weekend. Hopefully, things will slow down and I can WISH during my lunch break again next week :thumbsup2 I hope everyone is doing well, and I will "talk" to you guys later.

Jill

Oh my, my, my! Stay healthy, get it all done, and we will be here waiting for you when you have time!

I think this is a WONDERFUL idea! I remember seeing something like this fall out of my mother's purse a few years back...

The breakdown is very helpful, since I wouldn't know where to start on something like that.

Is your friend as into Disney as you are? There has to be something in the World she hasn't done yet that could make the adventure portion...

I don't have a list myself, but I am going to start working on one ;D

Okay.... I guess I thought you'd all figure out with the winkie smilie that the friend is ME! I started thinking about this/planning this last summer after I turned (GULP) 49 but haven't actually acted on it and I am now realizing if I don't get my a** moving, it won't happen!

So YES my "friend" is as big a Disney nut as I am.... but there is NO money in the budget for even a LITTLE trip to Disney. I went this past May with DD and was just in Orlando for a weekend (non-Disney) with DS. I'll have to visit our local Disney outlet store if I want some "magic".

Good morning all! :goodvibes

I'll start my coaching gig a day early and post a QOTD for today since we don't have one yet.

QOTD Thursday, December 5, 2013: Heigh Ho, Heigh Ho, It's Off to Lose Weight We Go! (recycling from the previous BL Challenges -- it's good for the environment!) If you were one of the seven dwarfs, which one would you be today -- Happy, Grumpy, Sleepy, Doc, Sneezy, Bashful or Dopey?

BRB with replies!

Today I'd have to say Doc. Busy with lots to do and lots to keep me moving along. Have a big to-do list by my side! So I'm feeling practical and a bit dis-organized (and not particularly tidy). Does that sound like Doc??

Grumpy.

Cause I'm a girl and a pound heavier then yesterday- if you get my drift

I'm going to my regular meeting today and will see what they will tell me. It doesn't seem that new but I do like the idea of having everything laid out for me so I don't have to put a lot of thought into planning -- sometimes you need autopilot. :hippie:

The new "system" was formulated to help make things easier in the beginning for newbies... and it is truly easier than trying to figure out portions and PointsPlus Values, etc etc. And while the diet is limited as to the types of foods, it isn't terrible.... there is still meat and cheese (albeit fat free) and fruits and veggies and milk and yogurt and bread and popcorn... plus a few points every day for treats! I find it very do-able! I'm anxious to get it rolled out!

I enjoyed the bucket list question and answers even though I didn't get a chance to answer it. :cool2: Tell your friend there is lots of time AFTER 50 to do cool stuff, too, so not to worry if it takes awhile to get to everything on the list. :flower3:

I would really like to hit that date this coming summer though, knowing that I had completed a list!

I'm going with Doc today -- feeling a little bit flustered trying to get all my things done, make sure I get to my regular WW meeting, and making sure that I have sufficient provisions in case we decide to stay out of the bitter cold this week-end. :cold:

I SWEAR I didn't look at your answer before I answered "Doc" as well! How funny!!

A friendly reminder that tomorrow is weigh in day! :santa:

Thanks for the reminder!!

******************************

Morning all! I'm here at home, up and moving and shaking! So much to do today, but my list does NOT include hanging the laundry outside on the cold, damp, cloudy day! I guess the "season of the dryer" has begun!

I need to prioritize my "to do" list because I am feeling a bit at odds, not knowing where to start! And I have committed myself to being fully prepared to be tested on the new WW roll-out by Monday . I'm going in for my "certification" that day and to be honest, I haven't practiced it ONE BIT! So I know that is one thing I will be working on today (and over the weekend).

Off to get started on that list!........................P

Hi everyone! :)

I'll go with Dopey because I think my whole life is about Dopey right now, no matter what else is going on! :) I'm feeling the heat of getting ready - just a little over a month to go, and my overly ambitious fundraising goal is feeling extra impossible at the moment. But I'm still proud of the money I'm raising! I'm running for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation - DH is a type 1 diabetic (diagnosed at age 11), and so it's a very personal cause for us.

I'm feeling a bit better every day this week, but on the advice of my e-coach (Mr. Galloway!), I'm not trying to push even short runs. The mile yesterday was fine, but I think I'll wait until the weekend and see if I can get a short one in there.

I'm tracking my points like a crazy person (the good kind) and am hoping for a smidge of a loss this week. We shall see...

I forgot to add the multi-quote - but thanks for the good wishes for the Messiah performances! If we get an audio or video link, I'll share it, for sure. :)

Happy Thursday, everyone!

Happy Friday everyone!!

Today is your first Weigh In Day!!!

Please remember to send me your weight by PM. Please put the date and the current weight (not the loss, just the new weight) in the subject line, that makes things easier for me!

You can PM me the weight over the weekend, I will try to update as soon as possible. But you are welcome to send a new weight any time after the weekend as well - it might just take some time for me to update the first page during the week!

Hope everyone had a good start into the month! This is a month where starting out strong appears to be vital. ;) My first week was better than expected. I started the month with a slight gain - and lost that already this week. Very happy about this. All in all I have been able to maintain my current (for me rather low, but still with lots of room for improvement) weight despite some really not so good weeks. This makes me confident that once I am at my goal weight, maintaining will not be as difficult as I feared as long as I keep a constant watch on the slight ups and put in measures as soon as the weight goes up a little bit.

Lisa - Thank you very much for starting your coaching period early!!

Happy Friday and good morning all! I'm working today so I'll be popping off and on as I have time. DS again forgot about his early Friday morning class (as did I) and so we ended up with a mad dash out the door and he was still 15 minutes late for it! :( I did manage to pack my breakfast and lunch though, and ate my breakfast here, since I was here early. Grapefruit plus a sandwich thin with peanut butter and coffee.... not terribly exciting, but quick to pack up this morning!

Didn't get even half of my list done yesterday and was planning to finish it up today, but I didn't want to say no to work. I'm attending a women's Christmas church luncheon out of town tomorrow with my SILs and two nieces.... really looking forward to it, but with the drive each way plus the luncheon, it will pretty much consume my entire day. And Sunday I MUST start practicing for my WW certification on Monday! So that list will probably end up being pushed aside for a few more days! oh well.

Kiddos are out in the hall and I need to let them in shortly, so I will say bye for now! TTYL when they leave for computer class............P

Dashing through the snow . . . :santa:

The holidays are a fun season. Celebrating with friends and relatives. Holiday parties. The food! It can be hard to keep up with your healthy lifestyle.
::yes::

But thankfully my friends at sparkpeople have come up with a list of 31 tips for a healthier holiday. I will share a few for you.

Take inventory. Identify all the situations that make it difficult for you to eat healthy during the holiday season and make a plan.

Stay active. Don't mistake "busy" for "active." You still need to exercise 30 minutes a day. Break it up into smaller sessions throughout the day if you are still pressed for time.

Try healthier recipes. Keep low fat, low calorie foods around when the treats are in the house.

Splurge wisely. Decide what foods are really worth splurging on and leave the rest on the table.

Get some sun. It helps your mood and energy during this stressful time of year.

Thankfully my girly weight dropped off just in time for weigh in today

That, and I worked my BUTT off this week because I had the time off from work.

Won't be that nice and fast losing after today.

I think knowing that you are totally ready for Dopey will help with some of the pre-race jitters for sure, Liz. Way to keep your food under control and all the balls in the air during this busy, busy week! :yay:

Congratulations on maintaining! :yay: We all know that is the real challenge of this healthy lifestyle thing -- keeping that number that you worked so hard to hit! :cool2:

QOTD Friday, December 6, 2013: What is your favorite tip for a healthy holiday season? It can be from the list or one of your own. :santa:

My favorite new holiday tradition is "join a holiday race," which was on the sparkpeople list. DH and I had a great time doing the Turkey Trot last week for Thanksgiving. I will be doing a Jingle Bell Run with the WW runner ladies from my group later this month that is a night 5K and goes through the lights of downtown. It doesn't take a lot of time, there is a ton of great comraderie and it is a good way to work that exercise in with the holiday season. :cool2:

:woohoo: for a great start to your month! You are getting so close to your goal -- I know you are going to make it! ::yes::

My coaching gig came in the nick of time as I had a gain at WW yesterday so get to lose double what I was hoping for this month. Nothing to do but pick myself up, dust off, and keep moving forward. :hippie:

Everyone stay safe from the bad weather and storms! :flower3:

Hi ladies! Up just a smidge this week, but I'm considering it a flat win, given the bronchitis and the lack of exercise. I'll take an extra 0.4 if I must. :/

Today's QOTD...I try to make sure I have lots of fruit around - healthy snacks I can go to easily when I get the holiday munchies. And ginger snaps, which taste holiday to me but are much lower point than so many other things out there!

Off & running - work, errands, my mom arrives, girls' night tonight, and three Messiah performances this weekend! Here's hoping the Sunday weather holds...

First of all, what a FABULOUS list!! So appropriate to have those ideas and reminders for this crazy food-filled time of year!

My favorite of the list.......SPLURGE WISELY! Not everything on the buffet table is worth the calories!

Second favorite is TAKE INVENTORY.... maybe because it suggests making a plan and we all know how much I love a good plan!

Thankfully I had my lunch already planned (although not packed up), so it just took a minute to toss the yogurt and fruit into a container.

I am looking forward to my time with my SILs and nieces, although a family funeral tomorrow is putting a damper on it. My DH's uncle died and even though we didn't know him really, my two older SILs are attending the funeral, (mostly to support my MIL) so they will be late arriving to the event. But I'm still excited for it. I don't really even know what it involves and I don't even know quite where I am heading yet.... I just know that the church is in Acton, MA (greater Boston area).

LOVE to see/hear your Messiah performances. Make sure someone has a video camera going!! Best of luck!!

Kiddos are off to computer, I've had my morning snack (cheese and coffee) and caught up here. Can't get on FB here at school, so I'll spend a few minutes with my new book (and for ONCE it is truly just pleasure reading.... not weight-loss or exercise related, not about saving the planet or living green.... just for FUN!).

Don't know how many of you remember me, but I did the Biggest Loser challenge last year (when it was still called that ;) ) and I was the one who had the goal of fitting back into my graduation ring, bringing my blood pressure back down, gaining my confidence back and maybe lose a couple of pounds along the way...

Well, while I haven't reached my ultimate weight loss goal yet...I'm proud to say that I've managed to do everything else and maintain my 185lb weight (50 lbs less than my heaviest weight!) Plus I've got a before and after pic to share!

(Left is at my heaviest weight of 235, right is 4 months ago when I stood in my friend's wedding at 185!)

PhotoFunia-49619ee_zps92496a51.jpg

My confidence is back and better than ever, got a new haircut to celebrate the new me and I'm so much happier with myself now. And while I've pretty much plateaued the whole year, I'm looking to start the new year off right! But I just wanted to say thanks to everyone here who got me started on my weight loss journey, because had I tried by myself, I probably wouldn't have made it this far and now I'm able to help one of my coworkers who's having some of the same weight issues I did.

Thanks to you all! :cool1:

I started the day with :laundy: followed by a little :happytv: before :drive: to a soccer game for DS10 :cheer2: Grabbed something for dinner :moped: and came home to clip, check dates, and bag Boxtops for PTO :scared: DS10 and I then finished up his science fair project board and report on :fish: lines. I'm now able to relax and :surfweb: I really wanted to start Christmas baking  but it'll have to wait until tomorrow. May I just say, WOWZA and VA-VA-VA VOOM!

:worship:

I am really looking forward to looking that good!

Since I recognize several people on this thread, I thought this might be a good place to post this. :goodvibes

:cool1:

Of course we remember you! :wave2: You look absolutely smashing! So happy and I love the new haircut. You should be so proud of yourself for this wonderful accomplishment. :yay: Don't be a stranger and come back and chat with us any time! :flower3:

Good morning all!

This is a quiet challenge and the smilie police and poof fairy are getting a little lonely.

Morning all! My story for today is about one of my loved ones. I KNOW she lurks here on a REGULAR basis, so I thought I'd share a bit about her.

She is the  of my life (along with my men, of course). Sometimes she makes me :headache: but mostly she makes me :) and :lmao:. She works so hard at :teacher: . She never takes time to party: or :drinking1. Her amazing brains make me :worship: . When she is home for Christmas we will popcorn:: and :stir: and :music: and pat the :cat: and :happytv: together.

She loves ::MickeyMo as much as all of us and is working hard so that some day she can save every :fish: on the planet! I say :thanks: to God every day for her! I can't wait until I :drive: to pick her up next weekend and give her a big ! She is my :cutie:princess: !

:faint: Just kidding, Pamela! ;)

I know, right? I truly MISS just reading for FUN!

I know it is supposed to be cold here today and getting colder. Not looking forward to it. Stay warm and cozy! I'm sure your house looks lovely!

Morning all! Just popping on to say hello and answer the QOTD. DS's girlfriend is visiting today and he did NOT do the housework that I asked him to yesterday when I was gone, so time to get his butt out of bed and moving! Also need to get studying for tomorrow's WW certification class.... SO NOT READY! TTYL.........................P

I hope very one is having a great weekend! I am horribly busy with things to organise in the new flat, things for Christmas etc. But the first page is updated!!

For those of you who did not have such a great first week: I hope the next two weeks will make up for it!! I think most of us will find the last week of this month the hardest!

Congratulations to the losers, we have some that did quite well! My result looks better on paper than it is really. I had a very high start weight and managed to just get back into my main current range. I have a very low goal for the month - I just need to get under a certain number, that's all I want to achieve! I need to be good, but to be honest, at the moment I find tracking such a hassle and then in the evenings I get those snack attacks! Arg!! And it is not even Christmas yet!!! I am very thankful to be able to host this month as this really helps me to maintain at least a certain level of discipline! I already know that I will host next June again as that is the month after I return from my next vacation!! Hostessing is such a great thing to help focussing on weight loss! :thumbsup2

In that regard: We already have Lisa signed up to be our January hostess and Helen has signed for March already. But there are still lots of spaces available! Think about it and let me know if you are interested in hostessing a month! There is a spreadsheet available (Thanks to Rose!!) which makes it easy to keep tracks of everyones weight loss.
