Will my plan work?

We own at BWV and can't always get the reservations we want. BCV is almost impossible to get it you don't own there.

I don't know what they're going to do about the 2042 expiration, but they have extended expirations in the past. There's a cost but still, you can get it extended.
There is no guarantee that any 2042 resorts will have contract extensions and I would not go into a purchase assuming that there will be one. The OKW extension was pretty much viewed as a disaster for Disney with part of the resort expiring in 2042 and part of it expiring in 2057.

Very doubtful they will extend BWV.

I think they will quickly turn it into their next cash cow. It will be the first to be renovated and reimagined. I think they will either gut it or level it and rebuild completely. The clown will go for sure. The points per night will rise up and maybe pass Riviera levels. Price per point will be $350 - $450.

Happy New Year!! Wishing you all another happy year as DVC members.
I am NOT YET a DVC member. Hopefully I will become one in year 2021.
I have been playing with some numbers in my head.
Can you please KINDLY advise me if what I am thinking in my head would work in reality??

**The target resale contract**
#points: 150-175
use year: June
location: SSR
price/point: max $105

**My family's vacationing style**
travel frequency: every OTHER year (at least for now)
season: July-early August
target room type: 2 bedroom villa (ideally at Boardwalk or Beach Club)
duration of stay: 6 nights

Will it work? Thank you in advance!

It probably will work if you're that flexible with July-early August. What if you don't always get them though? Are you ok with other resorts too in those circumstances?

It also depends on a lot on your willingness to take the chance, be flexible and be ok staying elsewhere if not. I do not think you'll constantly end up at SSR and perhaps never will. FWIW I often book in the 7 month window and while there are several times during the year your plan would not work I believe summer has a pretty decent chance.

BWV and BCV are two of DVCs most popular resorts. The people who bought those resorts resale paid a lot more for those resorts than they would have to buy a different resort, so they are using the majority of their points at their "home" resort. After all, you'd have to be pretty stupid to spend 20% more on points that expire early if you weren't really excited about your home resort. Which means that they book before the seven month window opens, and will only switch if something more attractive comes up. So a lot of them stay put. People who bought sleep around points, say at SSR, will be ready to book at seven months to snag any open rooms and anything that frees up as BWV/BCV owners move around. So there is a lot of competition for relatively few free rooms. People who are most successful with sleep around points (which is what you would be buying) are happy staying at their home resort, and are flexible switching at seven months to what is available that they want more than what they have. Sometimes that will be your first choice resort. Sometimes that will be your fourth choice resort. Sometimes, you stay put. You'll have a better experience when you are the most flexible - being willing to move mid trip, being able to switch your vacation by a week, being able to stalk the website to piece together a vacation, having a list of resorts that you'd switch to (that is bigger than two). You will not be happy if you say "I promised my kids BCV and Storm Along Bay this year, and I submitted the second week of July for vacation a year ago and it can't be switched."

I would add that they are also OK with a 1 bedroom, which are more available at 7 months than are studios.

If you book right in the 7 month window, you should be okay with BWV garden view rooms in the 2 bedroom. BCV in a two bed will be a bit more tricky since it is a smaller resort. If you plan to book a 1 bedroom that is usually available in the 7 month window. Also I would not get hung up on use year. I would rather search for best deal. use year is irrelevant

Eek. Maybe UY is irrelevant for some, but not for me. I would never be comfortable planning a trip in the last couple of months of my UY. Especially if I was likely to be doing it every single year. That is reserved for desperate situations IMO. I mean, every single trip we take I get concerned someone will get the flu (or now covid) before we leave. Any cancellation is stressful enought, but I would be a nervous wreck if it meant that my points would be lost if we had to cancel. We always travel in winter and have ended up sick on vacation more times than I can count, so I guess it's always a thought for me.

I agree. Use year is very important. I have an October use year and my last trip is usually no later than end of May, which gives time to bank if necessary.

If I do book something in summer and have to cancel, then I am forced to try to rent points. So far I have had no problems, even though I've canceled multiple trips during the last year.

For a June, July or August trip I would be comfortable with any use year from Feb to June.

Oh, the other thing to keep in mind. There are a set number of rooms at BCV and BWV. Those resorts aren't anticipated to get any bigger. Every year, DVC sells more points, which means more owners, which means more people who want to try out different resorts. So each year it gets more difficult to book at non home resorts that are in high demand. We had no problem getting a two bedroom at BCV ten years ago in late August at the seven month window, but that was ten years ago. That was before Poly, Aulani, BRV, RIV, or VGF had opened, and VAKL and BLT were still selling. Depending on how you count it, there are about 50% more points in the system now than there were then - there are also about 50% more rooms, but the reality is that some resorts have more demand than others - the lower point structure that was in place when BCV and BWV were opened, plus the location, make them very desirable bookings

Very unlikely they will do another extension as the OKW one went badly. I think the long range plan will be to resell, with new 50 year contracts, and point charts that match closer to RIV.

I went in with the same idea in my head it worked out to me but then I got some advice from this board and changed my mind and also disney pulled FROR on me twice so instead of SSR I went to AKV for the same price per point 95 this was completed in December 2020. it was a stripped down 185 points in 2022 but with covid and the great deal and disney FROR not interested in a stripped down contact it went through. I thought if I can't get in anywhere else how great in a savannah in my backyard and with value resorts if you can get them how great is that.So I think what I'm trying to say is buy where you can afford but maximise what your spending don't go the cheapest but buy where you mind staying

we've owned at SSR for 14 years now. We like you are planning usually go every other year. We have not had a problem staying at BWV a few times and actually got into BC once (that's going to be the tough one) July/August isn't that hard to book at many of the resorts if you act fast at 7 months. We did however just buy at Riviera with the deal they had this summer. Reason is the studio and 1 bedroom setup at BWV leaves a lot to be desired. We like the flexibility of an extra sink and shower or extra single bed when it's more than 2 people. That won't matter in a 2 bedroom- but something to think about.
