I’ve never had a chili dog. Don’t think they’re real common around here, though maybe it’s just the places I frequent. I’m not a big fan of hot dogs and rarely eat them. I do make chili at home, a few times a year, mostly in the winter.

I don't make chili cheese dogs, but I will order them at the local chili parlor. Our chili cheese dogs are called coneys and they include the hot dog, chili, cheese, and mustard. Onions are optional.

I don’t ever make them, but it’s a favorite of mine at “Coke Corner” ie, Refreshment Corner in Disneyland.

Sometimes when I make chili and there are leftovers we might have hot dogs two or three days later and top them with the chili and onions, but rarely cheese.

I don’t think I’ve ever ordered a chili dog at a fast food place or state fair. It’s strictly an at-home thing.

I actually prefer a Chicago style dog with the bright green relish and sport peppers, etc. They are so good!

That nuclear green carcinogenic relish is to die for. Almost literally.

Fun fact.

Walt Disney came to Scranton and had a Texas Wiener from the Coney Island restaurant in town. He wanted to buy the recipe for their chili sauce to use at the park he was looking to build. They wouldn't sell it to him, so he had to keep up the search.

On one of his trips home, Paging Mr. Morrow went here with his sister, Bonnie, in case you want to search for the vlog. In the past, the man cooking the dogs would put buns all up his arm and add the wiener and fixings to it and then the top bun before removing them from his arm. It was great schtick in a time when health codes weren't as strict. This is well after the time of up the arm delivery of product. lol

I can assure you that they are delicious! The original Coney Island Restaurant has closed as has its second location. The building was purchased by a developer who bought the recipe from the owner and is planning to reopen the restaurant.

Between the Coney Island wieners and my Mom's wiener sauce, I am in heaven with chili cheese dogs!

I’ve never had a chili cheese dog, but love chili dogs. I’m fussy about my chili dogs though. I don’t like it with beans and it needs to be fairly smooth, not big chunks of burger meat. And I put raw sweet onion on mine.

I love a chili cheese dog with onions The way I make them it is not a pick it up with your hands dish, it's a knife and fork meal. I wouldn't want to order it at a restaurant, it's strictly an at-home
thing(where I can have an abundance of napkins and a clean shirt if necessary)

The Chicago style dogs look good to me, but don't all the toppings just fall off when you pick it up? I'd love to try one though

I’m shocked at the amount of people on here who have never tried a chili cheese dog. It’s the only way to eat a hot dog, imo. Granted, I haven’t had one in a very long time.

They are a must at the Coke Corner in Disneyland or if I’m visiting Houston and driving by a James Coney Island drive through.

They are okay, my wife loves them. With onions. Can't remember last time we had them. We fix them at home once in a while. There used to be two fast food type restaurants here that had very good chili cheese dogs.....they made their own chili in house. Both have gone out of business. So other than Wienerschnitzel ........the hot dog restaurant former known as DER Wienerschnitzel......I don't know of any place that still sells them.
In the bigger picture............at least here, thinking about, almost every independent hot dog restaurant I can think of has closed.

Chili cheese dogs (with onions) are awesome, but admittedly very messy. We make them at home a few times a year, but I’m not likely to eat one elsewhere.

Those Portillo Chicago dogs are great too.

Yes they can, Ron. Best is to not eat while sitting but rather standing and holding the dog out in front of you between bites. Similar to eating a Chicago Italian Beef, same consequence, but with beef juice also.

I've probably only had them a handful of times. They're fine and all, just not my usual go to meal.

Pretty much enjoy any hot dog, but me first choice is a Chicago Dog.

I even go to the trouble of ordering the nuke green relish and sport peppers since they don't sell them locally.

I used to order the Vienna beef hot dogs and the buns as well - but the buns don't freeze well and you can get some other very good brands of hotdogs.

I've never had a chili cheese dog, although dont think they're particularly popular in the UK. I'm not a fan of hot dogs in general really although I'd certainly be willing to try a chili cheese dog, it seems a much tastier way to have a hot dog than plain.

Growing up Texas weiners were a big thing in that area. They had originated nearby and there were several places known for them.

Hot dogs are pretty disgusting to me. There is no good way to eat one!

Oddly, I joined a team from my church who cooks dinner at a local homeless shelter once a month, and the menu includes - chili dogs! (All beef for cultural reasons) So I end up helping to cook them once a month.
