Why you should always have an emergency fund

Isn't that funny, I've been around here quite a while now and I really do think somebody on here will ALWAYS have the answer.

I have posted the most random questions here on the DIS. And they always get answered! Our community is so large and diverse we have someone who knows a little about almost everything!

Are you serious? Where can I find out more about that?
Read your policy or call your employee's HR person who handles this. Friends with older kids all had the wisdom teeth out by "the" guy everyone went to. I knew insurance covered the surgery so I asked if they were participants. They were not but I got the names of the oral surgeons who were. Mine covered, theirs not.

NMW you crack me up hahaha!!! You got that right.

But I just called the surgeon, as well as my healthcare provider and all I'm responsible for is the x-rays, and a $25.00 copay! Thank you guys so much.

Retitle the thread why it is important to read your insurance policy.

my DD 15 just had to have all 4 wisdom teeth taken due to being impacted done under total anthesia cost to mom and dad $40 office copay thank you health insurance !!! most days insurance companies are not my favorite people but this time so thankfull that we have it

If you have medical insurance, impacted wisdom teeth are often covered under that as out patient surgery. My dental insurance does not cover wisdom teeth removal. All of my children's were removed with a $50 out patient surgery copay.

My son's were covered under the medical insurance as well. It would have cost me a little more had he had to be put under but he did fine with just normal numbing. It was so nice to find that out from our insurance when I called to inquire what it would run me.

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

But in the future, there is a great no finance charge medical/dental credit card you can apply for with your dental office called the "Care Card". DH & I have dental insurance but not everything is covered ... so we put the remaining balance on the Care Card and you make a monthly payment. The monthly payment amount is determined by Care Card. NO FINANCE CHARGES.

How awesome is that!!!
I think you should take a mini vacation in celebration.

Care Card, is that the same as "Care Credit?" I would have definitely used that if we didn't have the emergency account or this wonderful news about the insurance company!!

Actually, I like the title- that's why I clicked on the tread :thumbsup2

But I love a thread that has a happy ending, saves money and I find out the ending all on page 1

YUP, you are right! Oh, good. :thumbsup2

maybe I can use that money for new hardwood floors ;) haha just kidding EMERGENCIES only!!

Definitely file a claim for your wife's surgery. In most states you have up to 24 months to file a medical insurance claim. Build that emergency fund back up!

Hi guys!

My wife since we have lived together (August of 2007) have tried to put away atleast 100 dollars a month in an emergency fund. Sometimes, when we get bonus's at work we will throw that money in the account. Also, during tax time we throw some extra money in there.

With that being said we had $5000 dollars in our account (topped it up when we got married.) We were saying the past few months "isn't it so great we have this emergency fund, and we've never had to use it?" Now we are eating our words!

Last month (2 weeks before Christmas) wifey was complaining of tooth pain. We went to the dentist and they said she needed ALL FOUR of her wisdom teeth taken out. Without any dental insurance, we were left to foot the bill of $1790 dollars. UGH!!!!!

Then, last night I'm sitting there and I've been sick the past few days with a real bad sinus infection and bronchitis, and I realize my jaw hurts a little bit. I decide to sleep on it as it is most likely because of the sickness I was getting over. Woke up this morning with a very sore jaw, and pain in my back tooth. I just got back from the dentist and need to get a wisdom tooth pulled. Since I still have all four and I'm going to be getting put under, I have decided to get all four taken out. Two of them are "boney impacted" whatever that means, and my surgery is going to cost $2250.

Bang!!! Almost 80% of our emergency fund wiped out. But, we didn't have to dip into our savings, or our bill account. But Jesus, $4000 in 2 months just on dental is obsurd. We are now looking for dental insurance lol.

WAIT!!!!! My DD had her wisdom teeth put two years ago and we first submitted it to our health insurance (not dental) since it's consdiered surgery. They paid almost alll of it and then we submitted the remainder to our dental insurance. So for wisdom teeth removal, submit the bills to your HEALTH insurance and see if they will pay.

l.

I would have been complaining about being called wifey. From thinking women everywhere, please don't refer to your spouse as wifey. ;)

:worship: What a difference knowledge from the DIS can make! See, you were about to pay for something you didn't have to:eek:! I am glad that it worked out for you! I would be :dance3::yay::woohoo::cheer2::banana: all at the same time! Now you get to keep your reserve:teeth:
