Why would my flights double today?

We are flying from lex to mco and I have been watching delta fares leaving Dec 16 returning Dec 23. They were at $260 with a couple of not so good times at $230 then tonight the prices went up to $460. What is up? The flights have lots of seats and it is still pretty far out??

If we understood airline logic we would all be rich. That said. I would NOT wait long if you want a 12/23 flight. Flights just before Thanksgiving and Christmas can be very expensive. Delta probably figures they can sell the seats at the new airfare and if they are right and you are wrong......you will be out of luck.

I agree we need to purchase soon (if I had my way I would already have the seats but dh was trying to put the purchase off another month since we just bought June tickets). I can't pay $460 though. I guess we will just watch it a little longer and if all else fails we can book SW when their schedule comes out.

Wait it out. I'm taking my mom and niece to WDW in May. I didn't buy the tickets earlier because my mom has some health problems and I was waiting for her doctor appt next week. In early March, the flights I wanted on USAir were $213, I figured I could wait. Then $250. Then $692!!!! I checked American Express Travel and counted 38 empty seats on the return flight, the flight to Orlando had more than half empty seats. I kept checking it and one day a couple weeks ago it dropped back down to $251. I decided to take a risk and buy them. Last weekend they were over $700! There are still a few empty seats. I don't understand it, how it could jump back and forth from $250 to $692. I would have been willing to pay in the $300's but no way $692 each.

One week ago Alaska airlines flights out of Seattle to MCO for Dec 18- 23 were 496.00. 2 days later they were 476.00. Thursday morning they were down to 276.00. I jumped on this price as I was exchanging tickets for my sons who can't make our April trip but can make it in December. This way I only had to pay the 50.00 per ticket change fee.

Today they are back to 496.00. I learned to check daily and when you see a price that suits you, jump on it.

Thanks for the responses. I will just check daily, hope they go down and be ready to jump on it. It is nice to be able to see how full the plane is on American Express Travel.

I found flights on United Airlines for those dates at $228 RT and Delta has $266 RT if you can leave a day earlier.
Good Luck, Debbie

It's insane. We just bought our tickets for next February to Fort Myers. Well, the trip down anyway. DH got up in the middle of the night to book them right at the 330 day mark, and paid $122 one way for each of us. As of this morning, the flights are up over $260 for ONE WAY!!!! YIPES. I guess the moral is, if you see a good flight, book it!

It's kinda strange but Tavelocity shows United for $233 on your dates and the United website shows them much higher.I wonder why?Mmmmm......can't figure that out.

Thanks Debbie for checking. We may look at leaving a day earlier but could not leave until the afternoon. We are taking the kids out one day early from school but are trying to avoid missing two days. We can't leave until noon on the 23rd because we are coming back from the 4 day cruise. I will also consider United.

Debster: What a great price. I think it really does pay to book early (at least that has been the case in our area). Dh just thinks I am crazy for worrying about Dec flights (work is really busy for him right now). I have told him that I am going to keep watching and book as soon as I see something reasonable though.:)

I had that happen with Cheap Tickets. But when I hit the "purchase" button, it came up that tickets were not available at the lower price.

Oooooh,Ok,DebbieB,Thanks for clearing that up.A little misleading I would say??I guess I'll just stick with the Airline Websites. That tactic seems a little underhanded to me!
