Why are the value rooms not available for a few weeks?

I am the OP. I have a value studio room and a value one bedroom already booked for March as it is our home resort. I was just wondering if they are being refurbished or something else.

The rooms were already remodeled. This construction must be resort related.

THe hotel-side rooms at AKL are being refurbished. It was supposed to start in the fall but got delayed and started into 2019. Originally it was supposed to end fall 2019, but is now expected to end into 2020.

Right now they are working on Kudu trail. In addition to the interior room refurbishment, they are also painting the exterior of the building, and there are various construction-related vehicles along the outside of the building at different points. As they are doing the interior, various hallways are blocked off, on multiple floors at once.

So it could well be that the DVC value rooms themselves are not being refurbed [except for the exterior painting], but that they are closing them off while the hotel rooms below them are being refurbished, e.g. to abate noise and such.

Those rooms were just refurbished a couple of years ago.

Just saw 3 nights available in a value studio at AKV for 12/7 - 12/10. Of course, I couldn't get it booked fast enough and it was taken. Really irritates me that I was shut out at the 11 month window for those rooms, but now anyone seems to be able to grab them. I have sent off a strongly worded email to DVC - I'm sure they will just be broken up over it.

This is probably how I landed two nights in a CL studio with DVC back in June of last year and I didn't even own AKVs.

I called to make sure my WL is still active for those early December dates. Still there, still scanning the system... frustrated.
