Why am I not that excited about 7 Dwarfs ride?

The criticism I had and that other people I saw had with the Mermaid ride was that it's unfinished; for all of Disney's reputation for being unmatched in theming their attractions there are too many non-themed things visible in the ride (especially the ceiling).
I honestly don't remember people complaining about that. It was mostly the, "There's not enough technology being used", the animatronics were not advanced enough, and it's too short.

Wow you guys... Just... wow.

"The Little Mermaid ride was underwhelming".

Really? Ya think? For an adult?

Do you actually go w a 3-year old princess? Or do you ride it yourself and assess your own thrill level...

Or do you watch the Little Mermaid movie and think "Wow this is nowhere up to the action in Thor". Audience, people! Consider the audience!

SDMT is not a thrill ride! It is being advertised everywhere as a family coaster experience. It's not even being falsely advertised as a thrill ride. If you are going into the SDMT expecting it to thrill you, considering you've ridden coasters at Six Flags or elsewhere, you are just inventing things in your mind that you wish this was, but it's not.

It is not a thrill ride. It is a coaster you can take a non-coaster-aficionado on, or a young child that has not taken to coasters yet.

Do you ride the Carousel and think that's underwhelming? It's basically the same target audience! At 38", A tall 2-year old can ride this ride! Pls consider that when assessing the "fear factor" of this ride. :rotfl2:

Disney is in *no way* attempting to compete w a new coaster at Universal or Six Flags. The crowds that like those coasters are teens, and they do not bring the money. Disney is further locking in the "parents with young children" via the SDMT. Those are the resort-stayers, the vacationers, the souvenier-spenders.

I just can't believe there are entire hate-threads about a ride that has not even opened yet about how YOU are not going to be thrilled by it when you know up front you will have to wait a long time for it, and it will not impress you at all because you are not 6 years old.

I will love this ride because my kids (2, 5 and 7) will love this ride. This will be what they grow up thinking back about when they were kids like Space Mountain was for us adults.

So to answer the op...

We are super freaking excited for the mine train ride! It looks amazing. It's a hybrid dark ride and coaster so truly first of its kind.

Well not exactly as Universal has had a dark ride/coaster hybrid for many years now called Revenge of the Mummy with animatronics, special effects and themed beyond belief.

I'm not blase over the Mine Coaster though. I think it will be a cute, fun ride that I am looking forward to riding during the Xmas party. I'm not overly excited for it or thinking it will be the coolest thing ever either like I am with the upcoming Gringotts attraction. However, it's a new ride and new rides are fun to check out. I also want to see how these swinging carts are.

I do think it's being over hyped in some cases as it really is just a low thrill family coaster that is very well themed. However, there is nothing wrong with that and MK needed something not princess related in NFL and it's a certain marked improvement over the first plans for that area.

It's not anywhere near a "one of it's kind" E-ticket attraction but it's still going to be a fun, cool, new attraction which WDW needed so in that regard, I am looking forward to it opening.:)

Given its location in Fantasyland and its target audience, I think the mine train will be a huge hit. From everything I've seen, it looks fantastic. My 7 and 5 year olds can't wait to ride it. They ask me daily, "Is it open yet?".

This ride is honestly one of the reasons I'm looking forward to visiting Universal for the first time this fall. WDW has basically stalled when it comes to ride innovation.

We are excited for the new SDMT to open. I am a little disappointed that we have been back twice and it hasn't been open yet. I think they are taking forever, but hopefully when it opens it will be amazing! :goodvibes. I am not a "thrill ride" lover so this ride is about my speed. :rotfl2: I can't wait!!

I absolutely love the new Fantasyland area. The detail is fabulous! I thought the new Little Mermaid attraction was very cute. The walk in took forever, but once inside it was very nice. My kids are older so riding it once was enough but I can see how little kids will really like it.

My only hang up is that I feel like Disney is ignoring Epcot, which happens to be one of my favorite parks. I really hope they show it some love real soon.

It is obvious that many guests have been disappointed with Little Mermaid. The DL version has been closed for several tweaks since opening.

Do we know if there is still a Snow White M&G area planned for under/around the Mine Train? I recall seeing that early on in the plans, and now that Anna & Elsa are evicting Snow White from PFH, it would be nice if she had her own little area to meet in. Then only Aurora would be left without a set area to meet in.

Good question. But just because she has a cool area of the park opening doesn't mean they feel the need to make her easy to meet.

Just ask Belle.

For me the real problem is that crowds are not evenly distributed among the parks. Of course MK will always be Disney's busiest park, but the lack of new attractions at both Epcot and DHS in recent years has caused a lack of interest in those parks among both casual and common visitors. Therefore, crowds tend to accumulate at rides like TSMM or Soarin as those parks have very few headliners.

I definitely am thirsty for new attractions, but I also think that a couple of new rides at both DHS and Epcot would improve the guest experience a lot, as the problems I mentioned before would be slightly fixed.

I agree with this. DHS needs some serious TLC. The rumored Star Wars Land and Cars Land would do wonders for this park. I have a feeling we will hear officially confirmation of Star Wars Land very soon since Iger has mentioned they are working on Star Wars related stuff for the parks a couple of times now during earnings calls.

And as much as I love Epcot, it really needs at least 2 more E-ticket and 2 more C-ticket attractions to offer something new and help disperse the crowds.

My plan for Epcot would be:

1. Gut Universe of Energy and use that huge building for a new E-ticket. Maybe an indoor coaster in the style of the Revenge of the Mummy at Universal. Either that or use that huge expanse of flat, indoor, open space for something using a trackless ride system similar to Mystic Manor.

2. Re-purpose the Wonders of Life building. Maybe a slow omnimover dark ride of some sort.

3. In World Showcase, the E-ticket should either be finally using the ride building in Japan to build the Mt Fuji coaster, or add Switzerland with the Matterhorn as originally envisioned.

4. Add in another country (Brazil, Australia, other) with a C-ticket boat ride.

I love Disney and am always reading about it; am giddy a year before the trip etc. However, I would say they are very slow at rolling out new attractions. I know they are finishing up New Fantasyland etc., but it seems to take ages to get rides/attractions completed. Overall you cannot beat the parks (only place you can spend a week in a theme-park and still feel like you've left things out), but I feel they've come up short in recent years. This is the first marquee attraction in ages, and it is really lacking in that regard. I am sure it will be a great/fun little coaster, but not what will draw people to the parks. I don't want to sound down on Disney, because I'm not. I just wish they put more effort into the attractions (in Orlando anyway).

I don't see Matterhorn happening at WDW, especially after Everest. Mt. Fuji would have a lot of sense though. Or even Journey to the Center of the Earth (with a different technology, of course). I don't know. At this point anything cool would do.

Well, you do have to take into account that Transformers at Uni is basically the same ride as Spider-Man. If you're going to criticize re-use of the same technology. The only real difference IS the theming.

As for technology, I think we're a victim of Disney having too many parks. Most of the technological innovations that Disney is using are going into the parks in Europe, Japan and China. Not in the US.

Besides, for Fantasyland they wanted to have a ride that Grandma, Grandpa and all but the littlest kiddies could ride. Not a mature-riders-only blockbuster like Forbidden Journey. Beats the heck out of some more princess greets and fairy condos, though, which was the first plan.

The original plans for Epcot had Switzerland being built between Germany and Italy (just like in the real world) in one of the first waves of expansion. Those plans included the Matterhorn. I don't see why they couldn't build it now just because of Everest. Shoot, they'll soon have 2 mine train rides in the same park at WDW. Just trade out the Yeti for some other peril.

Like I said, though, I'd be very happy with Mt Fuji finally being built. A ride building and ride entrance have been there since the park opened. There was just that whole Kodak vs Fujifilm thing blocking it. How nice would this look:

I'm surprised there was so little reaction to that statement.

If that's what you think RSR is, then there's not much else to discuss.

Completely agreed. RSR is AMAZING and so very much better than Test Track.

Yeah we've ridden the mummy. But it's a thrill ride with a 48" height restriction. Can't really compare the two because this is a family coaster.

Radiator Springs Racer is better than Test Track, BUT... is it because of the theming more than the ride? I say yes. Because beside a few hills, it really is very similar to Test Track. Let's be honest here (and I have been on both many times).

As far as what the OP said, I tend to agree that I'm not excited, but for different reasons. The main reason I am not that excited is because it's a kids coaster.... it will be over in about 30 seconds, it won't be very thrilling, and it will be a long wait for a short ride. If the ride were bigger and more thrilling, I bet all of you would be much more exited to ride it, as would I, even if it wasn't that innovative.

But I do also agree with some people, Little Mermaid is a bust in terms of the ride, not the theming or queue (at WDW at least). I DO feel that the innovation has really taken a dive with rides.

I have a feeling that Avatarland will change that though.

Hard not to agree with the bolded.

I miss seeing Disney in things like National Geographic when the animatronics of POTC, HoP were so cutting edge they were studied. Visiting MK in the early 70's and then EPCOT in the early 80's, they were the pinnacle of technology.

Add in that it's taken so,so long to build 7DMT (almost as long as most of EPCOT), how can we not expect too much?

It looks like it's going to be awesome for what it is- a kiddie coaster- and probably the best ever. All of it looks really well done.

But, at some point, is it asking too much for just a little cutting edge back (and, maybe, a working YETI)...?

I agree with this. Am I the only one who misses the educational value that future world once had? I really enjoyed the wonder of life pavilion... and it was a huge crowd holder... making lines shorter at the other attractions.
