Why am I not that excited about 7 Dwarfs ride?

I just watched a ride thru of Mystic Manor in HKDL and boy was I impressed! 7DMT would be lucky to be even half as good!

I think the hype for 7DMT is just way out of proportion. Some people here are making it out to be some blockbuster-super-E-ticket-Potter-swatter attraction when in fact it's more like a good D-ticket. I suspect it'll be completely overshadowed by Gringott's coaster this summer.

Potter Swatter LOL.

But I totally agree with you. Watched Mystic Manor a few weeks ago and it looks awesome. I too think the hype that surrounds 7DMT is going to make a cute, fun ride seem disappointing to some people. I blame most of that on Disney, as they have had us sitting and waiting so long for this ride without much else to take the attention away from it.

I have to agree with the OP. It seems like Disney does not want to spend money on rides, like Universal does. I mean, to look at the 7DMT, it looks like a child's coaster, which I suspect that's what it is since it is in Fantasyland. Snow White - no licensing fees or anything. Just a really cheap concept.

Forbidden Journey was innovative and completely surprised me. The Mummy Ride did as well.

The next big thing I'm looking forward to is Gringot's Coaster. When I saw the movie Gringot's Bank car looked just like it could be a great ride and Universal is making it happen.

I really have to agree with a lot of you here. We hadn't been to Disney in over 8 years and the new rides just didn't seem new to us. For the most part the new Dumbo ride is just the old ride doubled, and when we got off the Ariel ride my husband turned to me and asked why did they bother to make this ride when we just saw it yesterday with real people at HS? The updated Test Track was nice and we loved being back at Disney but we spent a lot more time at Epcot relaxing around the world and back at our resort then we had expected to. For the huge price increase since our last visit I guess I was expecting something more.

They should have made that ride a different story, probably Rapunzel.

I'm surprised there was so little reaction to that statement.

If that's what you think RSR is, then there's not much else to discuss.

OP here. I never said I didn't like RSR. The whole area is beautiful, especially at night, but the ride technology is exactly like Test Track. Once again, the theming is great, nothing new about the technology.

A ride doesn't have to be wild to be great. I don't think there are too many people who believe Disney is going to start adding crazy thrill rides.

I do know that Disney knows how to do tame rides exceptionally, and that is why something like Little Mermaid was so disappointing. I mean, compare that to HM or POTC. Compare Figment to the original version. Even TSMM is just a bunch of screens you ride past.

What makes Disney rides so great is the details and theme, as well as cutting edge technology. In recent years that's been missing, and while I hope 7DMT brings that back, I'm not setting myself up for disappointment.

:thumbsup2 I absolutely agree with you. A ride doesn't have to be a roller coaster to be a great ride.

IMO, the OP as well as some others on this thread are "glass half empty" type of people. (A question was asked and I answered it based on what I think) This is Disney, so besides the ride itself, I'm looking forward to the queue:

Help Doc at an Interactive Queue

Within a covered wooden tunnel carved into the mountainside, discover a series of mining stations prepared by Doc, each one a gem of its own:

Jewel Sorting – Follow Doc’s instructions, etched into a nearby plank, and help match jewels by color and shape as they flow down a wooden trough—a.k.a. dozens of touch-screen video displays.
Jewel Washing – After the jewels are sorted, grab ahold of a musical water spigot and start cleaning. Each spigot plays its own melody—heed Doc’s tips and you may hear a collection of familiar tunes!
The Vault – Inside the door of the mountain, enter the center of the vault to find a collection of wooden barrels overflowing with glowing stones. Turn each barrel to see the ceiling above you transformed!

Knowing Disney and Disney Imagineering, I imagine the 7 Dwarf's ride will start out slow, as a dark ride with music and a few animatronics thrown in, it will speed up and do its roller coaster thing out side, it will slow down again, go back inside for a little more dark ride with more music, the witch will appear, it will speed up again, go back outside for a little more fast ride and then go back inside for the happy ending with Snow White. Just kind of what I imagine.

OP here!
I think some of you understand what I am trying to say! Like I mentioned before, I still love Disney and will visit WDW every chance I get, however, I feel that Disney company is wasting their money on rides at WDW that are not cutting edge technology and unique.
Wow! A great example is the above ride in Hong Kong. I am impressed! I am sorry, Disney is an American company, why can't we get rides like Mystic Manor here. I have seen pictures of Disney Sea in Japan, I would like to see their rides here at WDW.

So you consider Spaceship Earth to be no different an experience than Haunted Mansion or Buzz Lightyear?

Pirates of the Caribbean is no different than its a small world or Living with the Land?

Who cares what kind of technology is used to propel the ride vehicles?
If that's all that you take into consideration, we have a far different opinion of the attractions.

Radiator Springs Racers is a terrific ride. Carslands in fantastic. DL hit a home run with that one. It is incorrcet to say that either Universal or the Asian parks are doing things better recently because they have more money or are more innovative. Look at World of Color! Tremendous. It's WDW that gets the short end.

Universal has gone really big time for simulator rides, and it works with Hary Potter, but I think Transformers is just plain stupid and you see nothing but screens. The building ruins that part of the park and destroys the theme. Despicable Me is nauseating. Parades and evening entertainment sare sad.

Also, TSMM has been a huge success and is a great ride for the whole family. That is fairly recent in the grand scheme of things.

I agree the Ariel ride is not very good and can't hold a candle to Sindbad in Tokyo, which is a kiddie dark ride done extremely well. if they had copied Sindbad, WDW would have added another winner.

I never mentioned that all rides are the same in WDW! All of the above are older rides and were unique when they opened. I said the recently opened rides are very similar and not unique. I specifically mentioned 7DMT that is the same as Big Thunder Mountain. I feel that if Disney is spending millions of dollars for a ride like 7DMT, why don't they bring something like Mystic Manor or some of the rides mentioned already here.

Ok, LOL!! :lmao::rotfl2:

I think it's going to be perfect for what it is....a kiddie coaster. I also think it's going to be a huge hit. I think there will also be a lot of people on the internet saying, "That's it?" And I might be one of them, we'll see.

On a side note, I think reusing ride systems is ok when it's done well...I could ride 100 dark rides like Nemo and Mermaid if they told different stories and they told them well. Unfortunately, I don't think they did a good job on the actual Mermaid ride, or as good as it could have been. The outside is better looking than the actual ride.

I totally agree about little mermaid ride. I only rode it once but what bothered me was, and it might sound silly, there's no water. They made a ride about under (and over) the sea and they painted water. IMO, it would have been better as a boat ride, like pirates or something. Or even some water in the pools throughout the ride. Just seemed like they cheaped out on it....just my opinion. Loved the outside line area though!

Mystic Manor is an amazing attraction, but it's ride vehicles use the same technology as Haunted Mansion, a very old attraction.

You criticized Disney for RCR using the same vehicle technology as the (decades-newer-than-HM ride technology) Test Track.

Am I the only one not that excited about the seven dwarfs mine train ride?
To me, it looks like another version of the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad train ride. Even Radio Springs Racers at Disneyland looks like another version of Test Track with different theme.

But remember that many people here aren't interested in things such as queue lines. They just want the rides, not the full experience.

Because Hong Kong Disneyland is owned Hong Kong International Theme Parks which is an incorporated company jointly owned by The Walt Disney Company and the Government of Hong Kong.
See this article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jim-hill/for-imagineer-joe-lanzise_b_5106487.html
It states: "And I have to thank our Hong Kong government partners because they were very adamant that -- in their marketplace -- they really wanted to have bragging rights. These officials wanted to be able to say that 'The only place in the world that you're going to experience these attractions is at Hong Kong Disneyland."

Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea are wholly owned by The Oriental Land Company and just licenses the theme from Disney.

Disneyland Paris is owned and operated by Euro Disney S.C.A., a publicly traded company in which The Walt Disney Company owns a minority stake.

So, unfortunately, what is done in these other parks really has little to do with what is done in the US parks.

That being said, I'm looking forward to the new ride. But then, I haven't been back since '97.

Mystic Manor is an amazing attraction, but it's ride vehicles use the same technology as Haunted Mansion, a very old attraction.

Mystic Manor uses trackless vehicles, albeit a more advanced version of what is used for Pooh's Hunny Hunt.

Similarly, RSR uses a more advanced version of TT's ride technology.

I don't want to create a negative thread. I was just wondering what people think of the new rides recently created in Orlando (not just Disney).

Am I the only one not that excited about the seven dwarfs mine train ride?
To me, it looks like another version of the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad train ride. Even Radio Springs Racers at Disneyland looks like another version of Test Track with different theme.

It seems that Disney is spending their money on theming rather than a new technology. When Star Tours opened back in 1987, it was a unique and innovative ride. Indiana Jones in Disneyland was unique. Mission Space was a new idea. Even Everest was somewhat more unique than a typical roller coaster. The most unique ride I have been on recently is Forbidden Journey at IOA. I love that ride.

I recently read an article about Disney:
"Most remembered for the theme parks that bear his name, Walter Disney’s imagination was truly stunning. Though his beginnings as a cartoonist were fairly humble, he soon revolutionized the animation industry, contributing far more than just a familiar happy-go-lucky mouse. He went on to influence countless fields throughout his life including robotics and transportation. In a true culmination of all his talents, Walt even managed to design a fully functional “city of the future” before his death in 1966."

So, what do you REALLY think about the seven Dwarf ride and do you think you would like a new unique ride at Disney?

I agree, when my son & I went back in November 2013 for another visit, I was very underwhelmed with the new Little Mermaid ride. The theming outside was nice & anticipating, but when you got inside the ride, it was like they just put up a bunch of Little Mermaid themed statues & the ride itself was very underwhelming, very disappointing.

But the new BOG restaurant & the new Dumbo ride (interactive area) did live up to its expectations.

It is like they rushed the Little Mermaid ride & it seems incomplete.

Adults aren't really the target audience. It's a kiddie coaster at it's core. Most of Fantasyland is geared more to young children.

This doesn't mean adults can't ride and have fun, but complaining that Fantasyland isn't full of thrill rides and cutting edge ideas is silly to me.

Look at Dumbo, that ride is beloved by many WDW guests and various reiterations of that ride have been around for years, even before WDW was around. Same with roller coaster type rides- WDW didn't invent those.

I think the SDMT looks fun. I'm hoping it's open in Late April, early May when we go..:bitelip:
