Why am I not that excited about 7 Dwarfs ride?

Radiator Springs Racers is a terrific ride. Carslands in fantastic. DL hit a home run with that one. It is incorrcet to say that either Universal or the Asian parks are doing things better recently because they have more money or are more innovative. Look at World of Color! Tremendous. It's WDW that gets the short end.

American Imagineers are highly involved in the development of new attractions at Hong Kong, Paris, Tokyo and Shanghai, so we can assume that the same people that designed 7 Dwarfs designed innovative and beautiful rides such as Journey to the Center of the Earth in Tokyo Disney, Pooh's Hunny Hunt in Tokyo as well, or Mystic Manor in Hong Kong. And God knows what cool attractions they are designing for Shanghai. Then we have Disneyland CA, where Carsland and World of Color are an undeniable success. The real question is why is WDW lagging behind?

Like you said, it's not that Asian parks are more innovative considering that all Disney parks share their imagineers. It's more about the fact that WDW in particular is not getting those updates. The reason? Perhaps the size and complexity of the property requires more money to maintain. Perhaps they have plans for future years that they haven't announced. Or perhaps they are not interested in WDW at the moment.

Personally I feel like I'm one of the really few here who's really looking forward for 7 Dwarfs. I do think that Epcot and DHS really need some work though.

Who knows! Perhaps they think that they already have the crowds and so why bother :confused3

Knowing Disney and Disney Imagineering, I imagine the 7 Dwarf's ride will start out slow, as a dark ride with music and a few animatronics thrown in, it will speed up and do its roller coaster thing out side, it will slow down again, go back inside for a little more dark ride with more music, the witch will appear, it will speed up again, go back outside for a little more fast ride and then go back inside for the happy ending with Snow White. Just kind of what I imagine.

If that *is* what it ends up being...I think I'm in love!:)

1.)Oh I hope they have major future plans for WDW they haven't announced!:hyper:

2.) Count me as one of the few really looking forward to SDMT, too!:hyper:

3.)Yes...if Epcot and DHS could just get ONE new major headliner in the next few years I'd be happy! Not holding my breath, though.:(

Probably. Which is why I never understand the complaining. If WDW keeps pulling in record numbers of guests, why are they going to spend millions to create more attractions?

Except that they are, of course, always actively building something: NFL, Pandora...
Problem is that when Disney DOES build something new, people complain they don't like the story or they don't like the coaster or whatever...

For me the real problem is that crowds are not evenly distributed among the parks. Of course MK will always be Disney's busiest park, but the lack of new attractions at both Epcot and DHS in recent years has caused a lack of interest in those parks among both casual and common visitors. Therefore, crowds tend to accumulate at rides like TSMM or Soarin as those parks have very few headliners.

I definitely am thirsty for new attractions, but I also think that a couple of new rides at both DHS and Epcot would improve the guest experience a lot, as the problems I mentioned before would be slightly fixed.

Some criticize Universal for having simulator based rides but those are perfect for parks that have little room for expansion. Unless Universal solves that problem then their rides need to be compact.

I see nothing wrong with Universal or Disney using the same technology as long as what you see is pleasing. The Little Mermaid ride should showcase what Disney does best but I can't get past some of the really poor presentation in the ride. Disney can do far better (and often does).

I agree with this - particularly with Epcot. Really, what is there other than Soarin' and Test Track? Maelstrom? :confused3 Um, no. They are making big profits, no? Why not add a country or two (India and Brazil would be my picks ;)) and at least one more big attraction to futureworld? I happen to love Epcot, but when I talk to most people I know with kids, they like this park the least because they find it "boring" as is.

As for 7DMT - I think it's best to reserve judgment until you've actually ridden it.

I LOVE the Little Mermaid but am disappointed with the ride. It seems unfinished somehow. Maybe some 4d effects and doing something with the ceiling at the "under the sea" part would help. Won't stop me from riding it every time I go...
Mystic Manor looks awesome. I hope there is a "WOW" element to the mine train because it does look like a BTMRR repeat. I wish I had enough willpower to not watch all the videos that are coming out about the 7DMT. I can't wait to ride it!

It sort of makes sense in a perverse way. Disney wants to encourage everyone to the MK so they can charge more for that park while reducing staffing at the other 3.

I notice hardly anyone ever brings up Mission Space. Isn't it kind of popular and a "Headliner"?

I think lots of people see Mission Space as some sort of ''I'd like to try it once out of curiosity'' attraction, but after they are like ''That was interesting, but I don't want to do it again'' or in my case never again. It's the only ride at WDW capable of making me feel dizzy.

So to answer the op...

We are super freaking excited for the mine train ride! It looks amazing. It's a hybrid dark ride and coaster so truly first of its kind. The animatronics of the miners (hahahaha) look crazy! !! I prefer to not dwell on the timeline bc it never really affected us.

In regards to the RSR comment. ..I second Robo. Here here.:thumbsup2 RSR looks insanely cool. One day we need to get out there. That attraction is one huge draw.

As for the pp who mentioned six flags and the new 415 foot drop ride Zumanjaro they added to Kingda Ka... This type of thrill ride would only go over in a cedar point/six flags type park. We are 1 1/2 hrs from great adventure and have ridden kingda ka since it opened. It's cool but it's over in seconds and you wait in a boring line forever. My husband is all excited about zumanjaro. He's gonna have to go on that first before I set foot on it. Lol. :goodvibes

I'm excited about a new ride at MK... But I do think the theming is too similar to thunder mountain. Hoping its different enough. I do think that it seems small. We were there on Friday and with some of the walls down the size of the land seems small compared to thunder...

Also hoping the line is inside or at least shaded. We like barnstormer but the wait is a very hot one for such a short ride.

I just watched a ride thru of Mystic Manor in HKDL and boy was I impressed! 7DMT would be lucky to be even half as good!

I think the hype for 7DMT is just way out of proportion. Some people here are making it out to be some blockbuster-super-E-ticket-Potter-swatter attraction when in fact it's more like a good D-ticket. I suspect it'll be completely overshadowed by Gringott's coaster this summer.

Disney is building rides for a certain age group. Right now, with attendance rising, there doesn't seem to be any shortage of adults taking their kids to Disney World. Disney doens't really care about Potter World because that's not their target market. Watch a Disney commercial or ad and tell me how it appeals to older kids and adults on WDW message boards. It doesn't on purpose. I haven't taken any scientific polls but I am sure most kids visiting love the new additions to the parks. Is it a Gringo coaster? No, but my 4 and 8 year old probably can't even ride it but love ETWB, Mermaid and new dumbo's.

I didn't realize Spiderman was 15 years old. Wow. 15 years and still my favorite ride in all of Orlando. It was great when it first opened and it remains great today.

I'm totally looking forward to 7DMT because i'm always happy whenever Disney puts in a new major attraction. I realize that this is not going to be a super-coaster because it's in Fantasyland, so it's designed for kids. That's fine with me, I enjoy being a 45 year old kid sometimes.

People berated the new Little Mermaid ride, which I actually liked, because it wasn't exciting enough. I never bought into that because the attraction was built for kids not adults. I would bet most kids love the new LM ride.

The criticism I had and that other people I saw had with the Mermaid ride was that it's unfinished; for all of Disney's reputation for being unmatched in theming their attractions there are too many non-themed things visible in the ride (especially the ceiling).

I was at MK yesterday and took this video of the testing. They did this all day and into the night. You can faintly hear the music:

Thank you for the video. The landscaping looks great around the attraction and will be even more wonderful over time as all the trees grow in.

Adults aren't really the target audience. It's a kiddie coaster at it's core. Most of Fantasyland is geared more to young children.

This doesn't mean adults can't ride and have fun, but complaining that Fantasyland isn't full of thrill rides and cutting edge ideas is silly to me.

Look at Dumbo, that ride is beloved by many WDW guests and various reiterations of that ride have been around for years, even before WDW was around. Same with roller coaster type rides- WDW didn't invent those.

I think the SDMT looks fun. I'm hoping it's open in Late April, early May when we go..:bitelip:

I agree. I don't understand all the complaining about this ride that sits in the middle of Fantasyland which is designed for the younger kids or young at heart older guests. I for one am looking forward to this attraction. Any new addition is great as it helps spread crowds and adds to at least my enjoyment of going.

As for Little Mermaid. I have ridden both WDW and DL. They are the same so I only say I like WDW better because the outside is amazing. Say what you want about it but I took my 3 yo granddaughter on it in Oct and it was one of her favorite rides. Once again she is the target audience for the ride. It is nice that the [park has something for everyone or every age.
