Why am I not that excited about 7 Dwarfs ride?

I'm currently reading "Walt and the Promise of Progress City" and it's staggering how many things Disney Co. has compromised themselves on in the name of shareholder profits. Yes, Roy was there making sure the company made money, but there were principles that were never compromised under Walt. Now, not so much. I actually get mad while reading the book.

Roy was there to hopefully keep the principles that Walt envisioned. The other directors were more interested in the company making money.

I agree with this. Am I the only one who misses the educational value that future world once had? I really enjoyed the wonder of life pavilion... and it was a huge crowd holder... making lines shorter at the other attractions.
Oh no, you are definitely not the only one.

I remember quite well how crowded the Wonders of Life pavilion got. We always enjoyed browsing around in Communicore too.

Hard not to agree with the bolded.

I miss seeing Disney in things like National Geographic when the animatronics of POTC, HoP were so cutting edge they were studied. Visiting MK in the early 70's and then EPCOT in the early 80's, they were the pinnacle of technology.

Add in that it's taken so,so long to build 7DMT (almost as long as most of EPCOT), how can we not expect too much?

It looks like it's going to be awesome for what it is- a kiddie coaster- and probably the best ever. All of it looks really well done.

But, at some point, is it asking too much for just a little cutting edge back (and, maybe, a working YETI)...?

I totally agree. I am so excited to ride it that we will hop on it in 2017.:rotfl:

We all know how good the upkeep is on attractions at Disney these days, too. What happens when the *cough*state-of-the-art*cough* animatronic face projections go down? Will they just leave the faces blank (and horrify children) or will they just throw a bag over Doc's head and call it a day? And since they already do the projections at RSR this isn't all that new anyway.:confused3

Who can forget their state-of-the-art largest animatronic ever built?;)

Bing!

The Mine Train animatronics are going to turn people into giggling little girls. People will cry from the rooftops about cutting edge....and state if the art. It's true, from what I have seen they are unique to WDW and these 7 little guys are going to be great.

Sad news, they are hardly state of the art.

If you don't mind 18 hour flights, you can experience entire parks with this technology. Toyko Disneyland keeps it's attractions updated and they are all like this.

Yes, not Disney owned. I certainly believe, however, that Disney should be AND can easily afford to be the leader in technology in their parks. Not going to build anything much? Ok, keep what you have cutting edge.

Spend some time on You Tube.

Attractions not a good enough example, checkout our poor'ole Main Street Electric Parade. Certainly plenty of time and $$$$$ to make it better. Now checkout Toyko Disney Dreamlight parade. It is beautiful.

Shame Disney cannot at least keep WDW as a showpiece vs. poor stepchild.

I mentioned this elsewhere and was slammed so I'm ready. That's the cool thing about opinions. We all have them and we all believe ours is right!

Yeah it's such a shame that Wonders of Life is gone. World of Motion and Horizons as well. Epcot will never be the same without those attractions!!! In comparison it's like them getting rid of Space, Thunder and Splash Mountain in Magic Kingdom. You don't get rid of headliners like that without plenty backlash. I'm sure there are people that don't return to Epcot just because they took out those marquee attractions. Mission Space and Test Track don't even compare. What a shame =(

I don't want to create a negative thread. I was just wondering what people think of the new rides recently created in Orlando (not just Disney).

Am I the only one not that excited about the seven dwarfs mine train ride?
To me, it looks like another version of the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad train ride. Even Radio Springs Racers at Disneyland looks like another version of Test Track with different theme.

It seems that Disney is spending their money on theming rather than a new technology. When Star Tours opened back in 1987, it was a unique and innovative ride. Indiana Jones in Disneyland was unique. Mission Space was a new idea. Even Everest was somewhat more unique than a typical roller coaster. The most unique ride I have been on recently is Forbidden Journey at IOA. I love that ride.

I recently read an article about Disney:
"Most remembered for the theme parks that bear his name, Walter Disney’s imagination was truly stunning. Though his beginnings as a cartoonist were fairly humble, he soon revolutionized the animation industry, contributing far more than just a familiar happy-go-lucky mouse. He went on to influence countless fields throughout his life including robotics and transportation. In a true culmination of all his talents, Walt even managed to design a fully functional “city of the future” before his death in 1966."

So, what do you REALLY think about the seven Dwarf ride and do you think you would like a new unique ride at Disney?

Totally agree. Disney has not had anything innovative in years...probably since soarin and that is now outdated. The new universal rides however are fantastic and innovative.

I highly doubt 7DMT will blow us away like Transformers + Despicable Me did for the kids or Forbidden Journey did for me. IMO disney is totally off on what we want and my kids are only 6 and 8! Universal is also kind of quaint and interested in us and our business.

Disney is just gone the way of huge tour groups and is just so last century in innovation.

I came away completely unimpressed with islands of adventure when I went 3 years ago. I'd be interested to try the original park someday though. Not in the plans for this year's trip though. I am looking forward to the mine train, but not in a thrilling way. I've lost my taste for thrill rides anyway.

I was thinking for a second that people here are being awfully negative but then it occurred that no one is saying anything that is incorrect. I love Disney's classic rides just as much as ever but then it occurred to me that I don't really love anything that is newer. I can enjoy some of those attractions but they come nowhere close to a Haunted Mansion or Pirates of the Caribbean or even Spaceship Earth to me.

We much prefer the original Universal park even though the theming and a few of the restaurants in IOA are really nice. Just a matter of personal preference I guess.

Wow you guys... Just... wow.

"The Little Mermaid ride was underwhelming".

Really? Ya think? For an adult?

Do you actually go w a 3-year old princess? Or do you ride it yourself and assess your own thrill level...

Or do you watch the Little Mermaid movie and think "Wow this is nowhere up to the action in Thor". Audience, people! Consider the audience!

SDMT is not a thrill ride! It is being advertised everywhere as a family coaster experience. It's not even being falsely advertised as a thrill ride. If you are going into the SDMT expecting it to thrill you, considering you've ridden coasters at Six Flags or elsewhere, you are just inventing things in your mind that you wish this was, but it's not.

It is not a thrill ride. It is a coaster you can take a non-coaster-aficionado on, or a young child that has not taken to coasters yet.

Do you ride the Carousel and think that's underwhelming? It's basically the same target audience! At 38", A tall 2-year old can ride this ride! Pls consider that when assessing the "fear factor" of this ride. :rotfl2:

Disney is in *no way* attempting to compete w a new coaster at Universal or Six Flags. The crowds that like those coasters are teens, and they do not bring the money. Disney is further locking in the "parents with young children" via the SDMT. Those are the resort-stayers, the vacationers, the souvenier-spenders.

I just can't believe there are entire hate-threads about a ride that has not even opened yet about how YOU are not going to be thrilled by it when you know up front you will have to wait a long time for it, and it will not impress you at all because you are not 6 years old.

I will love this ride because my kids (2, 5 and 7) will love this ride. This will be what they grow up thinking back about when they were kids like Space Mountain was for us adults.

Last year, my then 7 year old princess and 9 year old boy thought it was really boring. Why do people assume that because you're under ten you don't want a thilling or amazing (techie) ride?

Besides, the Disney parks are supposed to fun for all ages.

In addition to Gringott's a lot of people are anticipating this summer's opening of the new Ratatouille ride in Paris. Here's a little teaser video that was released yesterday:

Fair or not, with 7DMT, Gringott's, and Ratatouille opening so close to each other people are naturally going to compare them to each other.

Wow, thanks for this- it looks like it's going to be very impressive. The Imagineers definitely still have it in them, so that's not the issue...

Personally, I was underwhelmed by little mermaid, which was disappointing seeing,as it is my favorite Disney movie by far. It has nothing to do with it not being thrilling. It has to do with what surferdave mentioned...seeing "backstage" elements in the ride. It is hard to feel like you are under the sea in a very bright room with a large, visible warehouse like ceiling. It is not Disney's best dark ride, which tbh is what I was hoping for - a great dark ride like toad was when I was little, but themed to my favorite movie ever. It fell short :(

That's not to say I don't enjoy it, I do, but it isn't Disney's best either.
