Funny how we always like the opposite of whatever we normally have:rotfl:

Its called "The Grass is Always Greener..." effect!

Lasdt night was BRUTALLY cold. I stopped at WalMart at 1:00am to do the grocery shopping. When I got home I would have had to make 3 runs from the car to the house with all the groceries....IT WAS SOOOOOOOOOO COLD...I left most of the stuff in the car...and took it in today!

aww poor Du:grouphug:

I really do hear you about all your troubles.

I've read stuff on some Alzheimers boards before.

The stuff going on with your mom happens quite a lot actually.

If they have some sort of medical setback it often sets them back mentally also. Not always permanently but for a bit. It seems to confuse them even more.

As for your dad and his cooking you might get to the point where you have to disable the stove so that he cannot use it. Take all the knobs off, unplug it, whatever it takes so that he cannot cook any more.

The cigarette thing is very scary. I don't suppose you could convince him that he is not a smoker:confused3 Tell him he gave it up years ago and doesn't smoke anymore;)

My dad just totally stopped driving when he misplaced his car keys one day. He would go to get into the car and he'd say, I don't have my keys. Mom would say, that's okay because I have mine and then she'd just get in and drive. So amazing that he didn't fight it at all:confused:

You are doing such a wonderful job of taking care of everything at home. But you also have to remember that you can't do it all. Take care of yourself too.

Did you see in Plant City, Florida (another strwberry producing town) it was 24 degrees this morning! Here it is a balmy -2 right now! Guess that's why we don't get strawberries until June!:lmao:

DU  to DISMama!
OMG - no i hadn't heard about Plant City:scared1: 24 deg. (NOR -2) is good for strawberries...so yep you're gonna have to wait till June....now i have some every day...but they're frozen diced IQF so they are really good....

we are getting a huge storm thru here over the next 4-5 days....supposed to get more rain than we have in years.....
Cleaning day again here...more dechristmasizing and a bit-o-dusting...

It's FREEZING here! I have barely been outside in the last 24hours~I may have to go tonight but it's ok cause it's to go out to dinner with hubby. My sis gave us a GC to our favorite local restaurant :woohoo:

Rose is already bugging about vacation in August!!

I need to know if anyone here is interested in joining us in NC??? We are going from 8-9 to 8-23. We will pick the size of the house according to how many are coming down. The only thing she MUST have this year is beach front. We are hoping to get a pool and hot tub too but those aren't mandatory. We will also bring the dogs as usual (my two and her one at least.)

Happy Thursday threadkillers
Boy i wish i could...but with 2 wks in Italy in June & our cruise n Dec...i'll have to pass this year....we also just found out what next year's tuition is going to be....:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

At night we leave wee wee pads in the hallway for the 18 year old dog (oiy) So today my dad put a used wee wee pad back in the box with the new ones. :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:
And he keeps leaving light cigarettes on the deck!!!!!! (they are in a ashtray...BUT WHEN ITS WINDY OUT, I PANIC)

Fun HUH?????
oh my DU....that is pretty scary....my SIL died in a house fire 4 yrs ago from smoking while sleeping....my BIL told her every a.m. she was going to burn the house down someday....(he NEVER once thought he'd lose her too but she used to wake up with him - lay in bed smoking while he showered & got ready for work)...firemen couldn't get to her fast enough....

ROBIN.....think your Mom just 'hid' your dad's car keys?:lmao:

No problem Brenda...we go every year :)

John bought me an "experience" last year I just cashed in. It's a Wolf Watch. We go Sunday morning...

DU...you have duly earned your place in heaven buddy.

ROBIN.....think your Mom just 'hid' your dad's car keys?:lmao:

No, he actually did lose his key and we couldn't find it for a long time.

I eventually found it way down deep beside the passenger seat in the car:thumbsup2

Wow the boards are running really really slowly for me tonight.

It's taking forever to load the pages.

So I guess I'll be back tomorrow

Yeah sure, now that I've decided to go to bed, the boards are starting to run quicker.:headache:

Colleen, I won't be able to make your beach vacation either.

It does sound like a lot of fun though.

I always like to see the pictures that you take.

/
Okay first..... I'm seeing a lot of bugs on the screen :scared: Do I need to break out the bug spray up in here... :lmao:

Gooooood Early Morning!!!! OMGoodness.... it's 19 degrees this morning. :scared1: :cold: :woohoo: I feel like singing... "How low can you go? Can you go down low?" :rotfl2:

Colleen, that is so nice of you to offer! But we won't be able to make it either. :guilty: But Thank You.... :goodvibes

About the wolf watch.... do u get to take pictures? That sounds like fun.

DU~ The grass IS Greener... :thumbsup2 ;)
I think... :confused3

Gosh DU... How do u do it? I agree with everyone else... you might want to take precautions with your dad. right now.

Brenda, I'm sorry to hear about your SIL. That's so sad. :guilty: What a terrible way to go.

Everyone else...

Cause I have to meet with her GP & Lung Dr first!...and then get with the wound specialist & Vascular surgeon together......This last part will happen on Friday of next week.

Also her mind is going ver fast here. getting bad:headache:

Before christmas, I was wrappin presents one night and she went into the bathroom, and sat in the tub....BUT couldnt get out!:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: I had to go in (WITH MY EYES VERY VERY VERY VERY closed) and lift her up to the Shower chair. YUKKKKKKKK!
Also she MUST ask "what time is it" literally 10 times every minute.:headache: She is doing les & less for herself.:guilty:
She also reads TV guide ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL DAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY long....dont actually watch anything though.
But I dont know if thats because I was home the past two weeks and she was feeling sorry for herself or what????? But it has got much worse since I was off, and she had the procedure.
Not too mention the CONSTANT KVETCHING about the same things(some even from 50-60 years ago),...over and over and over ...and over

NOOOOOOOOOOOW as for Pop. he keeps on putting stuff (i dont know what he is cookin up...it stinks)on the stove, then going into the living room and falling asleep.:scared1: (at least we have electric stove) or doing very strange (stranger then usual) things.
Keeps fallin asleep in his chair (my old favorite chair) and spills coffe all over himself...and the rug (that I have to steam clean every 2 weeks)

I Know, Its really hard...to go through it....
We turn off the gas on our stove every time we have to leave my mom alone...(although I try not to go too often)..
We also turn off the elec. from the front part of the house as she tends to lean lamps in the window for some reason...I asked her once why...and she said to let anyone know she was there?????:confused3
I have to keep my car locked(more so in the warmer seasons), or she will take all her stuff from her room and pack up my car....while Im just in my room reading....or cleaning some room ...or doing laundry...Ill come out and she'll be all tired out....then I notice the back seat of my car is packed full!:scared1: ...All those trips up and down the stairs...
Id see her milling about on my trips into the kitchen,.. but thought she was just doing the normal wandering...She would sleep really well on those nights...

I stopped my mom from smoking, by making her smoke the cigs that wean you off the nicotine...they were in three phases...One(less) , two( hardly any), and free(none)...Then just told her she quit...and she was ok with it...
Laughed it off about her memory...

The last couple times Ive asked ...she knows my name is Betsy....but shes not sure of our relationship...Ive been her friend, her sister, ..even her mother...It all just confuses her...:confused3

At any rate....I know you could use these...:flower3:
and Ill be praying for you and your DM&DD::yes::

Aww, Betsy :grouphug:'s for you too.

I don't know how you guys all do it.

I know that my dad hardly ever sits down all day long.

He walks and walks and walks his days away.

It seems like he only sits to eat and use the toilet.;) At least he is now in a place that he is safe to wander as much as he wants to.

Brenda, that is so sad about your sister in law :guilty:

Good mornin!

Going to get James today...its seems like he just left (Tuesday)
DECHRISTMASIZE WEEKEND:scared:

A nurse came today....she was in 7 out in 15mins....NICE when someone knows what they are doing. She was also suprised that I had been buying all the supplies. She said under home care...MEDICARE pays for all the stuff. Who knew??? She will order all the stuff, and it will be shippd here by Tuesday.

I told her some of the nurses that came...didnt even have alcol wipes or sizzors with them!

.my SIL died in a house fire 4 yrs ago from smoking while sleeping....my BIL told her every a.m. she was going to burn the house down someday....(he NEVER once thought he'd lose her too but she used to wake up with him - lay in bed smoking while he showered & got ready for work)...firemen couldn't get to her fast enough....

PayBACK!:scared:

Whats a wolf watch??????

You want EXPERIENCE...come on over here!!!!!:lmao:

Check out Excitations.com!

Yes Cally, I am ABSOLUTELY taking my camera with me~

It's the call of the wild! Witness the company of wolves with an exciting excursion to the only wolf and wildlife preserve on the East coast. Learn from the people who raise and care for the wolves about the animals’ evolution and history, their behavior and sociology, how they interact with humans, and more. Safely look on from the observation area as these amazing animals play, interact, and maybe even howl!

Begin with a scenic walk or bus ride to the Preserve where you'll first meet foxes and bobcats
Enjoy an informal discussion with an animal expert who will share insights and answer questions
Observe four different packs of wolves and witness first hand how they live and play
Take home a commemorative 5x7 wolf photo

Yeah right DU~ I've got and have had enough wild experiences at home...I much prefer the ones in the wild....soooo much more tame there ;)

I gotta run some errands before Britt goes to work (she and I are sharing a car til mine gets the exhaust fixed.) Hopefully I can find time to update my trip report today...

I sign up for school next wednesday :woohoo: Finally!!!

I also have another phone interview, this one is with the owner of the travel company I've been talking to all winter-on Monday.

Things are finally picking up...no more looking for things to do every day...the house is as clean as it needs to be, it's time for me to move forward

I forgot to tell you guys that our upstairs tv died yesterday. It is the one that Rick watches all the time, in the livingroom.

So he went out last night and bought a new one.

Now we have a nice new tv upstairs and Alex's nice new tv downstairs.

Also had to take Subway to the vet yesterday.

He had a little fight a few weeks back and slightly injured his back leg which seemed to be fine for the past week. The other day he went outside and came back in with a really bad limp. Now he hardly steps on that leg.

The vet couldn't find any major damage and wonders if he has stretched some ligaments or something:confused3

She gave us some pain meds for a few days, although he doesn't seem to be hurting much.

Hopefully he gets better because I don't like to see him like this. He's an old boy 15 1/2.

Thanks all for the hugs...i wasn't ever real close to that SIL...she smoked SOOOO much - i couldn't be around all that for very long...and she was ALLERGIC to everything else :confused3 but i do feel SOOOO very bad for my BIL...it has changed him so very much. He quit working shortly thereafter & hasn't gone back...lives with DMIL in the retirement homes. He gambles, buys/sells coins on ebay & goes to all the Warriors games...that's about it. He's very nice & generous to his nieces & nephews....(kind of like how i imagine DU is to Mac & James) even though he's not allowed to drive them....he WANTS to take Ryan to Warriors game, but i'm very apprehensive...he's wrecked more cars from falling asleep at the wheel...i'm surprized he's lived thru them all....

It's so very hard to see our parents / relatives age. DH's uncle lost his wive to Alzh. a year & half ago or so, and has a wonderful new lady friend...but now his twin daughters won't have any contact with him at all since he's being unfaithful....after he cared for their mother day in / day out for many many years (like so many of you are doing now). just infuriates me that he's not entitled to a little happiness after years of sadness and agony....

Did his wife die?

Then he is not being unfaithful.

Honestly if my mother wanted to find herself a man friend now, I would not be upset.

My dad is in the nursing home.

Yes she is still married to him and he is alive but he is not there for her.

I would not begrudge her the chance of happiness.

Yes she did die....he kept her at home & cared for her himself all thru the illness - and they have the nerve to begrudge him this opportunity to enjoy life again....he is one of my favorite uncle's & i keep in touch with him more than DH...i don't know the twins all that well...probably a good thing!!

Betsy...besides having Tea at the Grand Floridian, maybe you could consider a spa day for your granddaughter (for her birthday was it?) They do mani's and pedi's and facials there, not just massages. Doing the Tea would be cheaper tho ;)

Sounds like Subway was trying to climb or chase something and probably pulled his leg again. If it is a pull they take a long time, if not forever, to heal. Mika pulled her knee two years ago and still has issues with it.

It does seem like that might be what it is.

Since he's so old it will probably take quite a long time for him to heal.

At least I'm thinking that.

Most of you know that technically Subway does not belong to us. He belongs to the neighbours next door but has lived with us for probably 12 or more of his 15 years.

I went next door to advise them that he was limping, just in case they were to see him hopping around outside and think he got hit by a car or something.

I told the guy next door that Subway had a sore leg. He interrupts me and says .. I'll tell you right now that we won't be taking him to the vet

I said to him..... I took him yesterday.

Then he's like oh, what did they say:sad2:

So next time I won't even bother telling them anything. From now on he is officially our cat. No need to involve his previous owners in any details of his care.
