We are waitlisted, could not get anything at our home resort AKV. Hopefully will call day by day and get someplace at the 7 month window.
We would be willing to switch to a studio - only 3 of us going - but I heard they go even quicker than a 1 bedroom. I wonder if they have rooms available for cash on Thanksgiving night if the allotted rooms for DVC members are gone?
Just curious who else is waitlisted for Thanksgiving already? I got all my days in a 1 bedroom at VWL but Thanksgiving night. I may try to change my plans at 7 months. I'd love to stay at BWV, but they may just in my dreams this year!
We have reservations for BWV for that week, but I want to try to change to VWL! We also are doing a one bedroom. Too bad your waitlist for T-day has not come through or we could call and do a switch!
Now I'll be fine with BWV again, but we stayed there this past Nov. and 7yo DD likes VARIETY!
ooh, I would love that. If my waitlist comes through I'll be sure to let you know.
I called today and there was availability for a one bedroom at VWL for Wednesday night and Thanksgiving night. I was calling to get info on general availabilty as I plan on waitlisting at BCV Thanksgiving week (don't laugh!) I would try calling. If people are waitlisted, why was their availability?
If someone cancels a reservation and frees up something that someone else is waitlisted for, the day goes to the "waitlist file" immediately, not at the end of the day.You know, the DVC waitlist is just something I've never fully been real excited about. If not sure that anyone understands how it works, or what's really happening. My personal feeling is this(I have no real info to back this up), someone calls midday to cancel a reservation. If no one calls during the rest of the day to request for that same thing, than I think maybe that evening a waitlist might be filled. But...., if someone happens to call during that same day and catch the "opening" they get to reserve it. I've just heard too many people say that they didn't trust the waitlist so they called to check, and sure enough, something just opening up at that moment for them. I didn't get another chance to call today as MS was already closed when I saw your message. I'll try to call in the morning if I get a chance.

The system "knows" that there is a match, but it takes a CM to actually make the reservation. The "match" just sits in the "waitlist file" until a CM has time to work it.
My understanding is that CMs work the "waitlist file", in the order of nearest date first. So even if your waitlist for a Thanksgiving request came through, you might not find out about it until all the others who had waitlists come through for an earlier trip get taken care of.
I also believe that the CMs who work waitlists answer the phones when it is very busy - so the waitlist stuff is worked when time permits - kind of like they work the email requests. Phones rule in a call center!
The reason so many people report calling and finding out they got the waitlist, is that the CMs check the "waitlist file" for matches that have yet to be worked. If the CM sees the caller's match, they can go ahead and make the reservation at that time, thus making the caller happy. But the caller didn't get anything they wouldn't have gotten anyway.
