Where can we get lobster on the DDP?

I'm almost 100% sure that lobster was left on both the Narcoossee and Cap'n Jack menus during both years of free dining.

The things that have been removed from menus, or changes that have been made (people speculate as to the reason being the DDP or free dining, but we don't know), have been permanent, AFAIK?

Todd English's Blue Zoo at the Dolphin. (or Swan, I switch them all the time) The atmospere is really cool too.

They aren't on the DDP. Which, of course, is why they still offer lobster after it's been stripped off almost every menu at WDW!

OK...this is a bit confusing...if there were restaurants that specifically removed lobster, and other "pricey" items from their menus during the period of free dining, then put those items back on their menus after free dining was over, then yes, it certainly looks like free dining was the cause. If those restaurants simply changed their menus, it could be just to reflect what the patrons want, and have absolutely nothing to do with free dining. :confused3 Restaurants change their menus occasionally -- even those not at WDW

For lobster lovers, I went on the Great Lobster Hunt for you (even though, ugh, I hate the beasties! :crazy2: I will gladly give you my share ):

None at AK, obviously.
At MGM, the only likely candidate is HBD -- no lobster on the menu (except lobster bisque), but the "priciest" item is Filet Mignon for 28.99.
In Epcot, Bistro de Paris has lobster but isn't on the DDP, so would be unaffected.
No lobster at Chef's de France, "priciest" menu item is beef tenderloin for 28.95.
Filet at Le Cellier 27.99, no lobster.
Coral Reef has lobster soup, but most expensive entree is NY Strip, 31.99.
Jiko -- Filet Mignon, $34.00.
Flying Fish -- lobster appetizer $18.00, veal chop $39.00 is the most expensive entree.
California Grill -- lobster appetizer $17.00, filet of beef $35.00.
Concourse Steakhouse -- lobster bisque $6.99, Filet Mignon $26.99.
Maya Grill -- lobster is in the Seafood Margarita $9.95, "priciest" entree Mixed Grill $29.99.
Shula's Steakhouse and bluezoo at the Dolphin both have several lobster dishes, but are not on the DDP -- can you use DDE card there? And they are expensive
Citrico's -- no lobster, most expensive entree Filet Sicilian $36.00.
Narcoossee's -- Steamed Whole Lobster $54.00, Filet Mignon and Lobster Tail $52.
Artist Point -- no lobster, three menu items are $32.00, Salmon, Beef Tenderloin, or Sirloin Steak.
Yachtsman Steakhouse -- Lobster Bisque, $9.00. Ribeye and Porterhouse both $42.00.
Cap'n Jack's -- add a lobster tail to any entree for $12. Twin Lobster Tails $31.99.
Fulton's Crab House -- lotsa lobster (and costly, up to $49.95) but not on DDP. Can you use DDE here?

Is it that there are restaurants that used to serve lobster, and no longer do -- at all? Which ones? Did any of these restaurants remove lobster from their menus -- or the "priciest" entrees I've listed -- during the period of free dining last year...or the year before?

That's a pretty nice list you got there! :thumbsup2

If they offer free dining again, don't expect to see lobster on the menu any place at WDW. They take off the really pricey items during that time.

That's not true Captain Jack's and Narcoossee's had lobster during past free dining promotions. Free dining means the restaurants are crowded, not that they get paid less.

Captain Jack's gets mixed reviews. I think the lobster tails are frozen. I don't think very many of the restaurants had lobster, even before the dining plan. Coral Reef went from a 2 credit to a 1 credit restaurant. Of course the menu was revamped as a result.

Of course, if someone wants a gourmet lobster dinner, and they aren't doing the Dining Plan, the menu at Shula's sounded wonderful -- at least for a seafood lover. Several of the lobster menu items are listed as "market price" which is always iffy, but not a problem if money is no object. But holy cow, Surf and Turf is $73.95 and a 48 oz Porterhouse is $75.00. Seriously, though, who on earth would eat a 48 oz steak -- a sumo wrestler? :rotfl2:

However, I did notice...Shula's lists a plate splitting fee of $10. An elegant, upscale restaurant where you can easily share your 48 oz Porterhouse with the one you love...and each have dainty 24 oz steaks :lmao:

My DH would. People talk about sharing meals and I think that sounds great, except it wouldn't work for us because my DH is a glutton. His idea of sharing would be to eat ALL of his meal and half of mine. He'd never be satisfied with half of a meal, even a large meal! And no, he's not fat I guess because he gets a lot of exercise at work but I told him he is going to be one of these days if he doesn't slow down!

S/D have 3 excellent, but pricy, restaurants. Combine those restaurants with V&A, Bistro and Fulton's and there are more than enough restaurants to accomodate "foodies" that aren't happy with DDP restaurants.

Yachtsman used to offer lobster. It's gone, gone, gone, along with most of the other interesting menu items.

perd, I certainly meant no offense  :flower3: Wow...my DH can definitely eat when he puts his mind to it...but I know he couldn't manage a $75 3 lb steak in one sitting. We couldn't even tackle 2 24oz's if it was split. When we go to Outback, I usually order a 9 oz steak, and he orders the 12 oz -- I like mine medium well, he likes his still mooing  Even then, after salad and bread and a Wallaby Darned :drinking1 I sometimes bring half of my entree home. It's nice to know, though, if we ever decide to splurge on a meal at Shula's, they will gladly split our meal if the portions are just too large. A $10 plate splitting fee is very reasonable for such an expensive restaurant.

But...back on topic...there do seem to be some wonderful options for seafood fans, both on and off the DDP. Lobster lovers can find what they crave :thumbsup2 Lewis, by any chance, do you know if the DDE card can be used at the Dolphin or Swan restaurants? How do they determine which restaurants accept it, since many are not owned by Disney?

yachtsman just changed its chef i do believe... which typically means menu changes ahead or maybe the menu changes are already a result of that change :)

DDE can't be used at the Swolphin.

Some of the non-Disney-owned restaurants in the parks and at DTD take it. But the Swolphin isn't even a Disney resort.

They did for awhile have a discount for DVC members though. Except for Bluezoo, no discounts available there at all.

addons & certain pricier appetizers have been slowly disappearing from the Disney menus for the past 2 years. Whether the DP is a direct cause of this I wouldn't know.

what an excellent "lobster hunt" list!!!

thanks!

You -- and all other lobster fans out there -- are most welcome! For my next trick...I'm going to find every single restaurant that serves Creme Brulee in WDW... :rotfl2:
