Where are the best alcoholic drink values?

For those of you who have had "weak" drinks, you must not be drinking what I'm drinking!

The bartenders at the Tambu Lounge (Poly) are the best. I have had more drinks there than I can count (or remember! ) and they have all been plenty strong and generous in size. I was waiting to check in for 'Ohana with a Back Scratcher in hand when the two gals behind me asked what the heck I was drinking, because it was "giving off fumes." And they don't "weaken" subsequent drinks, as most bars seem to. We were at 'Ohana with a group of 9 (all the adults were veteran drinkers, trust me) and everyone was thrilled with their drinks.

My other favorite is the Banana Cabana at the CBR. The Goombay Smash is excellent.

I had one of those Fiesta Margaritas once and could not detect any Tequila, so I know that weak drinks happen.

We bought wine at the grocery store and noticed that POFQ had the exact same kind of Chard. A little more expensive, but not bad at all.

The "bucket" drinks at the Beach Club in Pleasure Island; there's a couple different ones, but all are served in a plastic bucket like kids would use to make a sand castle. You can get it refilled at any PI bar, should you still be standing after finishing the first one.

buy the 1/2 yard and get refills for $5.50. That is the best I have found. Although they were 5.50 2 years ago, might be in the 6.25-6.50 range now if they still have the refillables. :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1

OH, that's right, I read at DTD there is a store that sells beer by the single at like $1.50 (just remembering, it was info I stored in my brain!! ) so instead of paying 3-4 bucks, he bought his beer at this take out place (we've never been to DTD!) apparently you can walk with open liquor (again, hope someone else will come here and verify!)

Anyone? Is this true? If so, yipppee! Stock up the big bag and walk around...

Check out this thread!

To summarize...My DH and I discovered that if you order a "double" of what you are drinking, they do NOT charge you double the price. We did this at MANY restaurants, and paid only a few dollars more for double the booze! :cool1:

Thank you for the PSA :drinking1 :dancer: We will have to try this on our next trip.

To answer the OP question. We had a LuPu, LaPu at the Poly on our trip in October. Oh was it ever good. It is served in a pineapple and is certainly worth the cost. I could never drink two. The back scratcher was really good too.

Reading all these hints has made me thirsty. I just got myself some wine - hope it doesn't make me forget everything I'm learning here! :goodvibes

i know @ POP they sell 5ths of certains alcohals in the gift shop. I know they had catp MO and JD.

Oh my God, these are extremely strong drinks. After drinking one last May we went on the little boat ride in Mexico and it's amazing how much more fun that ride is when you're feeling "good" :teeth: They're pretty good but I don't like very strong drinks so I might get it a little lighter on the liquor next time. :)

OH YEAH! I needed to stop for a quick "nap" while the boys went inside Innoventions after I enjoyed some Fiesta Margarita!! Love this drink!

I was telling DH about this thread and the half yard deal at Rose & Crown. He was VERY interested in that tip, but we were both wondering how many ounces are in a half yard. Is it a couple of beers...more...less? Just curious!

DH and I are both beer snobs :p . Frankly, as much as we enjoy a nice drink or two or more on vacation, the beer selection, for the most part, at WDW depresses us. I don't mind paying $5-6 for a GOOD beer, but it is so not worth it to pay that much for a Miller or a Bud.

Obviously, Epcot has the best selection, but we thought that the best value for good beer was at the Studio Canteen at MGM where you could get a Yeungling (not really available in the midwest where we are from, so it's a treat for us) for $5.75 (I think the Miller and Bud's were $5.25). I want to say that the beers were 20 ounces, but they may have only been 16 ounces. They were definitely on the large size.

My biggest tip concerns resorts: if you just want beer, you're far better off buying a can or bottle from the gift shop than from the bar. You'll pay half the price for the exact same thing (something like $2 as oppsed to $5!)

I have has the layered margarita, the are really strong....but there was one flavor that was just really really bad, maybe the mango. I am not a big drinker, but I split one w/ my boyfriend then went to Germany for the wine tasting and then headed to USA to get some food because I was numb, the next day we were walking thru epcot again and I said how did Italy get next to USA I don't remember it being there yesterday and my boyfriend said that is because you were drunk....Now i do have blond moments but I just walked right throug Italy and did not even notice I was in Italy!

I don't like the mango either, so I just ask that they leave that flavor out. I don't find them to be that strong. (They're nothing like the drinks I get when we cruise to Mexico. :earseek: )

I love the Rosa Regale wine in Italy. If you can get to a Publix, I've seen it there for much, much less than at Epcot.

I'll volunteer to thoroughly research this topic when I'm at WDW next week. I know it's a sacrifice, I hope that you all appreciate it. ;) :teeth:

Cat p? You sure you want to drink that? :teeth:

Last time we were at the Boardwalk we bought bottles of Corona for $2 at the Screen Door general store and drank them out on the veranda. They even have a bottle opener on the wall by the door on your way out!

I fifth the Fiesta MArgarita! I had just one and was feeling very tipsy for a few hours afterwards! I have also had the Backscratcher at the Poly and it was pretty strong. The best drink I have ever had at WDW was the chocolate shake with peppermint schnapps at Sci Fi. That sucker was delious and strong! i could smell the peppermint as soon as she set it down. Yum!

I like the fiesta margarita and the drinks at the Poly's bars. Now we just go to Publix and buy what beer we think we will drink, and get some in the plastic bottles for drinking by the pool. Much cheaper and convenient to have them in the room. I got tired of buying those expensive 6 packs at the gift shops!

Oh, wow, I love my margaritas strong (we buy tequila at Costco  ), and the ones at Mexico are very weak to me. I've tried them over and over, because other people rave about them, but I think they taste terrible and weak :(

What I like for strong drinks have been the Zombie at the Polynesian, the Rum Runner at Typhoon Lagoon (yeah, really!) and the Tangierine Cocktail at the Tangierine Cafe. There's a sake martini at the Matsu Noma Lounge that's strong as well.

alexbigday, apparently that USED to be true when the Gourmet Pantry was still around, but is not true anymore. I'm not sure about the open beverage thing, since the one time I had a Guinness open, people were staring at me.

And the half yards are 24oz, the imperial pints are 20oz. I go for the imperial pints because they're easier to drink out of, unless I feel like impressing the crowds. :teeth:
