When staying at a disney resort how many of you tip your housekeepers

I tip, a couple of bucks a day usually. If I request no housekeeping that day I don't tip.

It's not required, not even customary.

What it is is a gratuity.

I'm grateful I'm on vacation, I'm grateful, someone else is picking up my dirty towels, I'm grateful I have the ability to take a vacation at all.

Leaving a small token to let someone know I appreciate that they are doing a job that makes my vacation more enjoyable, is a small way to spread some joy.

They get paid a whole lot less than I do. It costs me very little and whether it is a smile to resort employee as I walk by with a cheerful hello, a tip to a maid, or a word in the ear of a supervisor for a service done well, I feel better knowing that I made someone else's life a little happier just by being nice.

That's just me, if you choose not to tip and you are okay with it and then it's your business and who cares.

Having worked as a "chambermaid" at a hotel every weekend during my 4 years of high school, I did receive tips in about 70% of my rooms. I can honestly say that I did my job in every room, but I would go the extra mile for those who left a token of appreciation for a job well done.

Required? No. It's just a little way to pay the magic forward! My $5 a day may make someone a little bit happier...and I am happy and appreciative that I came home to a clean room after a long day at the parks. For me...it's a win/win situation.

No matter what hotel or cruise line I stay on I leave a tip for housekeeping. So I don't see why I wouldn't at WDW.

We leave a $5 tip every day. My boys really look forward to seeing their Disney stuffed animals moved and arranged in the room, and I really really appreciate and love that mousekeeping does that. Also, all the rooms we've stayed in have been spotless. They definitely deserve the tip! :goodvibes

We always do $3-5 a day anytime we stay at a hotel or if we are busy or forget, we leave about $15 or $20 the day we check out. We used to work a few low-paying jobs and understand what it's like to watch people have fun doing things we couldn't afford to do ourselves, so if it's got a tip jar, we're putting money in there. Maybe we're just softies, but we're firm believers in the golden rule.

We tip daily. Usually $5. I have actually seen envelopes for tips in non Disney hotels, so I guess some places expect it. That kind of turns me off, but I still tip.
Those envelopes might seem rude...I totally get why you'd take it that way.

But they're really done to make your life easier.

Hotels tell the maids that they can't just take any money that someone happened to leave sitting out in their room. That would be theft. They require the guest who is tipping to leave a note, which is a pain for someone in a hurry to leave the room.

The envelope takes out the theft issue AND saves the guest time.

A lot of people use those little folding cards that the maids leave, but I wish more hotels would leave envelopes!

I pile all the dirty towels in the sink so that housekeeping doesn't have to bend or lift. I put a clean, folded towel on top of that rolled-up group and I place the money on the clean towel. If they left a little card, I'll stick that with it. Otherwise, I write, "Thx!" and leave it.

I tip 5.00 a day. There are 4 of us. I pretty much have a clean room but it does get cluttery since we go for 11 days and we stay in a value. I tend to let the girls buy to much stuff. LOL But I try to find a home for everything.

I tip $5 each day when we travel as a family.

Not because we feel guilty but because we appreciate the work someone else is doing cleaning up after us.

The money is left on the night stand with a quick thank you note to the housekeeper.

Not sure if this was mentioned earlier but it is also customary'/appreciated to tip for turndown. I do 4.00 in the morning for the 3 of us, and then 3 at night for turn down. I love coming into a turned down room at night with music and lights on low and candy/towel aniimals and fresh toilitries to start the next day with. I tip b/c I want to and honestly we get the best service....In my scheme of life at WDW, 7.00 is a drop in a bucket. Means zero to me but can make someone else's day!:goodvibes

I tip no matter what hotel I stay at. I tip for anyone who provides a service for me to show my appreciation for their service.
For the housekeeping I normally leave $2-$3 a day since it could a different person each day. I also tip for car service, turn down service etc.

and how much do you tip them, just wondering:cool1::cool1::cool1:

Always tip, each day a decorated envelope with a simple word or words of thanks for making our stay extra special, $1-2 per person, per night stayed.

I have never tipped the housekeeping at Disney or at any other hotel for that matter. I have never heard of tipping for this service except on these boards. They are paid to clean the rooms. It is not like they are waiters where they are paid a smaller hourly and the rest is dependent on tips.

Sorry if this is a little harsh but as expensive as Disney is, I can't afford to tip everyone just to do the job they are already getting paid to do.

Really, you've never tipped housekeeping??? I can't imagine never knowing or traveling with someone who didn't tip. Everyone I've discussed travel with or do personally travel with, tip the housekeeping depending on if they've done a good job or not of course.

We tip $1 per day per person.

I agree! I am not being mean either just MHO:)

I agree, in fact I've unfortunately had several experiences of tipping and then getting bad service, so I like to pay extra only if The service feels, well, extra special! I work in a service field and it is illegal for me to be tipped no matter how hard I work for a client, even for additional workbeyond the end of the period in which I provide service in person. I just do what is best for that individual and make them want to come back. My "tip" is repeat business and keeping a job!:idea

We tip $5 daily, and I often feel that's too little.
I really appreciate our mouse keepers, and thankfully, we have yet to get a bad one.
Knock on wood.;)

I always wonder about those that don't tip? I am in my 40s and was taught by my parents to always tip housekeeping.

We do $5 a day.

Do I tip, as a rule? No. Why??? Because Disney has told us that housekeeping is not considered a 'tippable position'. Why?? Because they are making over $10 an hour!! Yes, those that are newly hired, with no experience, will be making less than that, but not much less. And there are housekeepers that are making more than my dd who works in a preschool/daycare!! I don't think that making $13 an hour is horrible. Is it a highly paid position? Of course it isn't. But, there isn't much you need to know before taking on this job.
Now, when you've seen some of the things I've seen, maybe you'll feel differently. I have gone to my room, after being told it was ready, only to find a sign saying it's being cleaned. But, when my dh put his key in and opened the door??? The housekeeper jumped up, off the sofa, turned off the tv, and grabbed her broom!!! We were in a one bedroom villa. She thanked us for knocking first, and that she was just 'hanging out' for a bit until her shift ended!! Then she scurried away. Of course, there was still trash in the living room area (old coffee cup by the table lamp), the toilet didn't flush, and there were used tissues on the master floor!!!
Just one example. For the most part, we've had very good housekeepers..even housekeepers who have told us that 'please, you don't need to leave a tip', and they mean it..they leave it sitting there, for days!!!!

So, I guess, long story short?? Do what you want to do. If it makes you happy to tip, go for it. Me? I actually hang out the 'privacy please' sign each morning..just to make sure no one goes into my room each day. I don't need everything to be refreshed..and besides, they leave a bag of stuff by your door.

We always tip. We always leave $1-2 per person per night.

When in our villa it depends on the size of room, etc...

I am from Europe, so this tipping-thing is a bit unusual to me. A housekeeper here in the Netherlands earns more than me - why should I tip, no one tips me?

When my partner and I stayed at a motel in Florida last year, sometimes we gave $ 3 to housekeeping, but we also forgot some times. The last day we gave $ 2 + all our small coins, probably $ 2 more.

As mousekeeping is not a tipped position in WDW, I doubt I will go out of my way to tip - but if I am very happy I will give a couple of dollars.

DH and I tip $3 or $4 a day. I was not aware that it wasn't considered a "tipped position". We will probably continue to tip. It's not a job I would like to do, so I appreciate it!

I am the OP, i'm glad i asked , because i like so many here have never heard of tipping housekeeping except on a cruise, another thing i learned after this post is that you should tip housekeeping and also for the person who provides the turndown service, they are the ones who are actually putting the little yummy chocolates on the pillow and making the towel animals, while housekeeping is doing the cleaning and vacuming, thanks everyone for the great opinions i learned alot/ :cool1::cool1::cool1:
