When staying at a disney resort how many of you tip your housekeepers

Absolutely tip. Been to many places in the world and always tip - even if tipping is not the norm (which is becoming less and less since things are becoming more "Americanized" in travel). It's something my father always did and now it's in my head. I had left a tip once and my friend took it thinking it was extra cash on the dresser - I ran back to the room and put it back after we checked out! I would feel horrible if I left a room and didn't leave a tip. Tipping in the US for housekeeping is normal, same as servers, hairdressers, etc. I just add it on to my "budget" and at a few bucks a night it's not that bad. Certainly nothing to skip because it will break the bank.

We always tip everyday...usually 2-4 dollars. We also leave a note of how nice the room was cleaned and how much we appreciate them taking care of us while we are on our vacation. We also tell them which park we are going to and give them a little bit of disney magic. This is something we do whenever we are at disney and for every hotel we stay in. We always stay on property. Every day when we come back to the room I look forward to seeing what they have left me in return. The last stay was at Pop and I had several towel decorations each day left in our room. I love disney!!!!! Our next stay is at Art of Animation in a Little Mermaid Room. My husband loves to make me happy!!!!!

I haven't visited Disney World yet but i can assure you when we take our 1st visit in January of 2013 we will be tipping everyday. My sister and sister-in-law both work part time and marriotts all suites hotels so they are a little more on the high end but when they get tipped its really appreciated. :flower:

Same as most here...

One dollar per person per night, plus an additional dollar to round it off, $5.00 per night.

I subscribe to the Steve Martin theory from "My Blue Heaven" ..."I tip everybody." :happytv:

We travel all over the world and didn't know it was necessary to tip housekeeping.

Outside of a cruise, I've never heard of tipping like this for regular service.

I have left tips before if I left the room a messy but for day to day? I wouldn't have even considered it prior to finding dis.

If I find a bunch of towel animals or something special I will leave something too. again for standard service ? Wouldn't even cross my mind.

I tip, a couple of bucks a day usually. If I request no housekeeping that day I don't tip.

It's not required, not even customary.

What it is is a gratuity.

I'm grateful I'm on vacation, I'm grateful, someone else is picking up my dirty towels, I'm grateful I have the ability to take a vacation at all.

Leaving a small token to let someone know I appreciate that they are doing a job that makes my vacation more enjoyable, is a small way to spread some joy.

They get paid a whole lot less than I do. It costs me very little and whether it is a smile to resort employee as I walk by with a cheerful hello, a tip to a maid, or a word in the ear of a supervisor for a service done well, I feel better knowing that I made someone else's life a little happier just by being nice.

That's just me, if you choose not to tip and you are okay with it and then it's your business and who cares.

AWESOME!! Well said!!:thumbsup2

We have been DVC for some years now - but we used to tip daily like lots of people. As DVC we tip $5 for Trash and Towel Day and $15 for full cleaning day. I don't tip because I feel we "have" to or are "supposed" to or even because its "customary" - I tip because I WANT to - I want to say "thank you for taking good care of us. We appreciate your hard work." I also tip the kids club workers when we take our niece. These people provide important services to me and I like to thank them

$6 a day. I have never heard of not tipping and we travel a lot. I always thought that it was the polite thing to do. As far as other countries outside of the US, I have tipped in them as well. It didn't seem out of the ordinary. I doubt housekeeping makes that much and since I have the privilege of not doing the laundry or making the beds, what is 6 bucks a day in the grand scheme of things? I am not judging those that don't tip. To each his own. I am just saying, I would be uncomfortable not tipping. My husband likes to leave even more than I do, so I know he wouldn't feel comfortable about not leaving a tip either. So we will continue to do so when we stay at any hotel. In WDW or not.

I always tip if I stay anywhere more than one night, Disney or not, always have. I stayed at the Motel 6 in Anaheim last week and tipped the maid there every day. She left me a thank you note the day before I checked out, it was nice. She provided excellent service, so I felt she deserved a tip.

I don't tip because it's expected or out of guilt (I'm not all that wealthy myself), I tip because I like to tip, it makes me feel good to make sure people who work hard to make my life easier know that they are appreciated.

We always tip Mousekeeping.. usually $1 per person per day, but its different for everyone. Since I'm going alone in September, I will leave $2-3 a day.

We tip daily. Usually $5. I have actually seen envelopes for tips in non Disney hotels, so I guess some places expect it. That kind of turns me off, but I still tip.

I hate tipping - we tip very well, but I resent that employers can't pay their employees a decent wage and expect the customers to fill in the blanks and we are required to do it (although if we get bad service anywhere - which is so rare it's practically nonexistent - we don't tip. I think this happened once in 10 years). This rant, however, is for waiters and waitresses.

As someone who owns a restaurant this makes me laugh.......mostly because you would complain a lot more if restaurants raised prices by 30-40 percent so that tips weren't necessary. Trust me, we are NOT making millions by having customers contribute to an employees pay. As a matter of fact you WOULD pay the same if it became a non-tipped position (because prices would have to be raised) and you would probably get much lower quality service. Why go above and beyond if you KNOW you will still get minimum wage or slightly higher? I just have to wonder if you are also someone who vehemently argues for higher minimum wage, but cant understand why prices increase after a wage hike. Oh well, not everyone understands business, especially small business.

As for tipping the housekeeper, we always do it, usually $5-10 per day. I was that lowly paid employee once and now I have the chance to give a little something extra so I do. If $50 makes or breaks our vacation we shouldn't be going in the first place.

We always tip at every hotel we stay in, Disney or any other anywhere in the world. We leave $5 a day(in a standard hotel room) and yes we tip when we are staying on points too, on days when the housekeepers are doing a full or trash and tidy cleaning. I have never heard of no tip. I was raised to believe that you tip anyone who does a service for you, housekeeping, valet, etc. These people work hard and are not paid much. For me it's just part of my vacation money. Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but since you asked I told you mine.

I agree. I too was once a lowly paid employee. When we are in the Happiest Place on Earth who's to say that I am the one who always has a magical time or is being made to smile. I tip so that I can show my appreciation for their hard work, the towel animals and special touches that have been left for us. But I also tip when I travel for business even if my employer does not reimburse me for them.

That is just how I was raised...

We always tip. Not because we feel guilty - but because we want to and we can.

Never heard of tipping housekeeping until the disboards. If I call and ask for something additional (extra towels, blankets, etc.), I will tip then. That's the only time I tip housekeeping.
