I've never tipped either, but this thread is interesting. I go out of town a lot and stay in hotels when need be, and have never tipped. It's actually never crossed my mind to be honest b

We don't tip the housekeeping either- unless we're in Mexico or somewhere like that. If everyone left $5 a day times how many rooms they do. It is a personnal decision but we don't.
Disney compensates their employees the minimum amount they think they can pay, just like my company. If Disney was not able to find people to do housekeeping at the wages offered, they would raise them.

.
To the person who said tax free, technically there is a section on your tax form for tips, which means it is only tax free, if you are going to withhold info on your income tax form.![]()

we've always tipped in every hotel we've ever stayed in. We're from NY... regional thing???
We usually tip $1 per day per person.
On our family vacation last week (not at WDW unfortunately) we were apalled to learn one of our daughters stiffed housekeeping and didn't leave a single tip for a week's stay.
Hmm don't think it's a regional thing...we're from the midsouth. I think it's more of a manners thing. It's just the proper thing to do IMHO.
Say 2 rooms per hour = 16 rooms per 8 hour day
16 x $5.00 = $80.00 per day
$80.00 per day x 5 days per week = $400.00 per week
$400.00 per week x 50 weeks = $ 20,000 per year (tax free)
Plus their regular hourly wage. I'm not saying it's too much but it's not too bad either.
Regardless, we leave $20 for a 4-5 night stay, 2 people.
