What's up with Billy Joel?

the officers who arrested Michael Jackson loved their 15 mintues of fame, gymnasticsmom.

and the cops in Southhampton who arrested Lizzie Grubman enjoyed their 15 minutes.

for that matter, the cops who arrested Amy fisher and Joey buttafuco enjoyed their 15 minutes.

How do you know they enjoyed their '15 minutes of fame'? I don't remember a bunch of LA cops making the talk show circuit.

One more thing

the officers who arrested Michael Jackson loved their 15 mintues of fame,

They have reason to be happy. They know they had the evidence the last time but the family backed out from testifying, I'll bet they are THRILLED that this time they really think they have him. And they don't need to family to testify to put his disgusting butt behind bars for a very long time!

I'm not a police officer, but I dont' believe that the police on Long Island are "starstruck." if the officers responding to the scene of an accident felt the need to administer a breathalizer test to the driver, they'd do so, regardless of his celebrity status. that the officers chose not to do so tells me that they didn't see evidence to suggest one was needed.

 Speaking from personal experiece.......sometimes a policeman will "give you a break" or call your parents to come get you, rather than do ther breathalzie test. Happens ALL the time....with non-celebrities.

I have very good friends that live in Bayville and know the area he was driving. Bad stretch of road, houses close to the road, I can see how a house could get hit.
Where I live there is a road that is heavily traveled. It leads to a main road, a high school is on it, plus a primary school. There is a curve in the road that has been the scene of many accidents, including deaths (It isn't as hard a curve as the one Billy Joel was on in Bayville). The houses are pretty close to the road. The town has even put up guard rails on a house that sits on the corner of the road and another street. People that live here know to slow down. Someone not familiar with the curve might not know to slow down because it doesn't look like a hard curve.
I have to say, people here on LI in general drive much faster than they should, including in bad road conditions.

I'm sorry, but if Billy "just going to pick up a pizza" how far can this town be from where he lives?? 10 minutes, 20 minutes???

my police officer friends tell me that it's likely for someone to get a warning instead of a ticket. but if there's been an accident, they're not inclined to "let someone off".

was it last week, or the week before, that the scandal appeared in the Long island paper? it's well known that police officers have discretion on whether to write a ticket or issue a warning. it's also well known that police officers are inclined to let fellow officers and their family members off with just a warning when someone else would get a ticket.

some idiot in the police officers union actually wrote a memo telling his fellow officers to not write tickets.

given the current climate her on Long island, it woud be a foolish officer who responded to the scene of an accident where a celebrity was involved, where civilians had observed the accident and the driver's reaction to it, where the media was likely to become involved, if the officer did not do his job he'd be risking a lot, wouldn't he?

Well I guess what I am trying to say is that every town (or just about) has at least one road that is a little more tricky to navigate, and sometimes it doesn't take much more than going a little bit to fast, or the road to be a little wet for an accident to happen. I am not trying to defend him, but I do know the area he was at. Was he sober? I don't know I wasn't there, but I do know that the laws here on LI are very tough regarding driving while intoxicated. You can refuse a breathalizer test, but I am pretty sure if you do you will be arrested (any other LI's know this for sure?).

Good question, if he was going to pick up a pizza, it's a good bet he knew exactly where he was going and the roads he would be driving on.

Or maybe even taken to the hospital to be 'checked for injuries'.

Is it possible that there was a little oil on the road? All safe driving courses stress the fact that road conditions become dangerous when it begins to drizzle or rain because of the oil residue on the pavement.
I nearly had an accident as the result of oil on the road and it was a clear day! I was exiting from the Throgs Neck bridge onto the Cross Island Parkway. There is a curve asc you exit, I had done it hundreds of times, safe to say I know the curve well. This particular day there was some oil (not visible though) on the road and I lost control of my truck. It is by the grace of god that I didn't hit the wall or another car and that I was able to get it back under control. The car behind me was all over the road, the car behind that one hit the wall. I was not going fast at all. It can happen.

I'm sure there was oil on the road, it was rainy when the accident happened, and let's face it, it's not easy to drive up in Bayville. there's no excuse for stupidity under the circumstances, but stupidity does NOT equate to DUI or DWI.

there's a road near my house, Vanderbilt Parkway. it's very hilly and curvy, a real rollercoaster ride. the posted speed limit is 30 mph, but most people in the neighborhood do 40-50 mph, even in bad weather.

most of the accidents that happen on Vanderbilt Parkway involve people who live in the neighborhood and drive on that street every day.

most of the accidents involve stupidity, not drugs ro alcohol.

Well if someone is injured and needs to go to the hospital one would hope regardless of their condition, sober or not, that is what would happen.

you're suggesting that the police department and Stony Brook Hospital engaged in a coverup for that accident?

there's a small hopsital not far from wehre the Sag Harbor accident happened. they didn't take him to that hospital, they airlifted him to Stony Brook -- about a 45 minute drive away.

Stony Brook is a major teaching hospital attached to a university center.

if they'd wanted to keep it quiet, they would have driven him to the local hospital. airlifting him to Stony Brook was a major invitation for the media to investigate.

Not suggesting, just throwing out 'what ifs' just like you are.

Well, if it was "the roads fault" it needs to be fixed! Billy is a known Alcoholic, and I just assumed he was 'drunk at the time" like a few other times he was in accidents.:o

Well, it's usually 'the roads fault' in those cases. That dang tree jumped right in front of me!! It couldn't be his fault, he's a famous singer, He is the Innocent Man after all.
