What's the most change you've ever cashed in?

If you have a commerce bank near you, they will give you money for your change, even if you're not a customer. Don't EVER use the commercial machines in super markets such as "CoinStar" as they take a 7% commission!! (though I know coinstar waives the commission if you get an amazon gift card instead of cash)

So anyway, I always buy one of those big pretzel jugs at the wholesale club, and when it's empty I cut a slot in the lid and begin filling it up with loose change.

I took it to commerce bank a couple days ago to cash in for spending money at Disney World. it was about 3/4 full (and very heavy).

How much did I get? $431.16

EXCITING!!! I never cash in much since I work at a bank and do it on a regular basis

I'm not real regular about keeping the change...wish I would...but I cash my change jar in every Thanksgiving and use it towards dinner for the family. That is my bug meal to cook for the entire extended family. Last year I cashed in almost $150.00. If I really did a good job, I think it could be more. But wow you did great!

In 2006 we cashed in (at our local bank) $1,700.00 We had been saving our coins for a few years. Paid for a huge chunk of our trip. :thumbsup2

I should say that it was about 2 years worth of change. But that's about how often we go on a *real* vacation (meaning other than camping trips or long weekend at the shore), so it works out well.

My last big change bag was HUGE!!! I handed it over and the woman had to have a male coworker come and take the bag to the back for her.

It ended up being $535.74

Our change jar, when full, is ususally good for right around $300. We cash it in for pocket money before big trips.

And yes, that thing is heavy!

Last year, I brought in my change & we had $733!!!! Was our spending money for Disney! :woohoo:

One of the hidden plusses of re-financing my car was that I got to join a credit union (no Commerce Banks around here) that has a coin cashing machine that keeps weekend hours. I'm very excited.

Generally about $360 in change when cashed in. It's always amazing to me how quickly my singles add up! Just before Christmas, my DH switched jobs (which meant we were short 2 paychecks). I cashed my singles in and change and had enough to make it through and cover the last needed Christmas gifts (oddly enough for his family).

WOW! Great job and that's a lot of change. Our bank has a change sorting machine, and we can deposit it into our CC for free. It usually takes them a day or two to process but that's ok. We got one of those change jars that keep a running total so we can see how much we have at any given time. Luckily we haven't had to change the battery yet and have been using it since Christmas. We have well over $100 saved so we are averaging around $30/mo right now. The most I think we ever cashed in at once is about $75 but we normally cash out the jar 2-3x a year so we get $100-150/year cashing in change. This year we are saving all of it for one big deposit so we will use that money for spending money at WDW. :thumbsup2

LAst time we did it we made over $700. The bank is fuller now and has more quarters than the last time so I am figuring almost $1000. Will really help to pay for the trip

Correction -- the "Commerce Bank" JeremyGNJ is speaking-of is the one in the Mid-Atlantic region.

There is also a "Commerce Bank" which operates in KS/MO/IL and is not related to the NJ-based bank (and does not have automated change machines in their lobbies).

We've been saving our change everyday since our trip planning began (about 7 mos)...so far we have over $300...the kids have been very into it since they know most of it will be their spending $$ at Disney...our goal is to have $500 by July when we go...

My best ever was collecting for a couple years and it was about $1200.

My local bank (Chevy Chase in you're in the DC area) will coin count for free, even if you aren't a customer of theirs. Just make sure the location has the machine before you go in, not all of them have it.

I once rolled over $700 in coins by hand. Now I belong to a bank that has a free coin counter in their lobby-free for account holders. I joined and opened a vacation checking account entirely for the purpose of using their coin counter. Sometimes I toss bills into my coin collector, makes the savings add up faster. I would NOT use a machine that charged me a fee. Couldn't do it.

I bought a big Coke bottle bank at Ice Station Cool.

Filled a quarter of the way full, the Coke bottle bank yielded $440.
