What's so bad about Stitch?

I think Stitch is such a cute character and I'm excited to ride the ride. I never was on Alien Encounter and I was mad when I saw it had closed before I got a chance to try it. I was happy when they said the Stitch ride was very similar to it. Details on this please? It's okay if you include spoilers. Thanks! :grouphug:

As I see it Stich just isn't that cute or funny anymore. His initial charm wore off quickly. Unlike a lot of classic characters he dosen't have staying power, yet Disney insists on shoving him down your throat ,ie using him everywhere they can. Then they go and take a show/ride and center it around him.The problem there is the original ride was sooo much more entertaining, kinda dark and scary and I think a much better story. Stiches great escape is just like stich funny and cute for about 5 seconds. Sorry if I'm overly harsh, this is the one thing that in the last few years I felt Disney has done so wrong, yet could have been better.

I did the Alien Encounter when it was there and I enjoyed it but thought it was a little dark and could be scary for little kids. I actually like the Stitch ride/attraction. Its not really a ride so I don't like to call it that. Its more like an experience. My DH and I did this for the first time in Sept and actually because of it we became BIG Stitch fans. We hadn't even seen 1 thing with Stitch in it and now we have seen all 3 movies and almost all of the TV shows as well as have a BUNCH of Stitch toys and whatnots!! LOL

I am not sure why alot of people don't like the "ride" but it may be because it has harnesses that come down automatically onto your shoulders (me and dh shrug our shoulders when the harnesses are coming down because they come down hit your shoulders and then raise up a little. If your shoulders are shrugged then the harness is a little bit further off your shoulders and you feel less trapped in. Also he spits, but its only water not like its actual spit. And there is one gross part where he burps chili cheese dog and it smells nasty and is hot so we just know when to hold our breath and we don't smell it. But I always end up cracking up when I am in there because I love Stitch and think he is so funny ~ oh and make sure your head is back against the back of the seat because he tickles your head!!

So far it sounds kind of fun to me! lol. Except for the chili cheese dog part. LOL

We love Stitch :stitch: in our house mainly b/c he happens to be DS's favorite character. DS does a great Stitch impersonation and always has us rolling, esp. when he brings it out at the strangest times. I remember when the movie came out ... I really had no interest in seeing it and Grandma ended up taking DS! I didn't love Stitch at first .. but he has grown on me. Now he's one of my favorites. Whenever we see him, I love telling him to be good! It always gets a laugh from him!

There's something enduring about Stitch -- he isn't perfect, he isn't always behaved, he's an outcast ... but he is loved. I think most people can relate to that in one way or another. I think it's our deepest desire -- to be loved. And, that Stitch can be loved gives everyone hope that they, too, can be loved in return.

As for the ride -- we have done it a few times. It's cute and fun. Not as freaky as AE ... which makes it a good ride for the kids. :stitch:

I have no problem with Stitch. I think people expect too much. It is just a fun show.

Stitch definitely isn't WDW imagineering at its best but we still have fun doing it. My daughter in particular loves this attraction, my son does not care for the harness thing so skipped it last time and was then sorry he had! If you sit up very straight and tall, the harness will stop when it touches your shoulders and then when you sit down a little lower you have some moving room. I discovered this last time and it really helped and would have made my son happier I am sure. Lesson learned for the next trip! The preshow thing is kind of amusing and cute and the ride itself is very dark and all three times I have ridden it I have heard terrified kids screaming. But if you don't mind the dark, don't wait in a long line, and like Stitch, then I think its worth doing. I love Stitch and so does the rest of my family so we enjoy it (never did AE so can't compare). But I would not wait for 45 minutes and will only take up a fastpass if I have seen or done other things I enjoy more. But I think everybody needs to try it once, otherwise how else will you know?

I have no real problem with Stitch other than I really liked Alien Encounter and wish it was still there.

This is one attraction that I had not visited because I let (my own fault!) the overwhelming bad reviews on this board sway me...

Well, DS 12 BEGGED me to go on with him this last January. I said "ok, if there is NO line, blah blah blah." We both ended up REALLY enjoying it! OK, it's not the greatest ride in all of WDW, but if you are a Stitch fan, it's very cool and Stitch does have some staying power.. Maybe not at Stitch's Great Escape, but definitely somewhere in the Disney realm.

I learned a very valuable lesson...no matter how many times you visit WDW and no matter how much you listen to opinions on any discussion board, the only way to know if you are going to like an attraction or not, is to TRY IT!

And the chili cheese dog part is not that bad!! It's hysterical to hear a bunch of kids (and I'm sure some adults) screaming "YEWWEWEW!!! YUCK!!!!!" as they're laughing.

I agree, I had no problem with Mission to Mars years ago or Alien Encounter and now Stitch. Don't care for the character but the effects are great.

I think the technology in the basic ride building, has made Disney stick with the same concept through the past 3 attractions, all in all, a fun attraction. If you don't like it or the concept, just skip it.

I 100% agree. We loved the ride and know that Stitch has excellent power as a classic Disney character. :stitch:

Okay so this may be a dumb question but does the ride actually move? I hear about the spitting and the chili dog thing but why the harnesses if you don't move? Am I missing something?

My DS8 LOVES Stitch, so I was worried the ride might be a letdown for him based on what I had seen posted. Not to worry, he loved the ride and I joined him on it 4 times. The burping seems to smell worse each time, but other that that, I have no complaints about it. It was a good attraction and Stitch fans love it. Also, as to why Stitch is a great character, my DS says: "Stitch is basically good, sometimes does stuff wrong, and Lilo never stops loving him." If that isn't a great Disney message, what is?

No, the "ride" doesn't move. The harnesses move up and down to simulate Stitch jumping on your shoulders as he is running around the room. We (DH, DS13, DD10, and me) hadn't read anything about the ride and were kind of excited when we saw the harnesses, we thought maybe the room would spin, the floor would drop, etc. But basically it was stitch running around the room wreaking havoc. It wasn't our favorite but not the worst thing either. It probably would have been better if there wasn't a hysterical 3 year old next to us.

This is pretty good to hear people saying that they like SGE. I have read on other websites just completly bash this attraction. I haven't seen it in person but I will this summer and I'm pretty excited about seeing it.

I only remember this ride as being Alien Encounter ... don't remember what it was before that. Anyway, I think, w/AE, it was for security reasons (aside from making it seem like the Alien was standing on your shoulders). I think they had the harnesses so that people wouldn't get up and try to run out. It was freaky as AE and I know that many people were frightened by it. I wonder if Disney wanted to avoid any bedlam and/or stampedeing to get out of there if people were frightened and wanted to leave. You could exit before it started -- but once it was "in progress", you couldn't leave. I think it might have, originally, been more for security purposes.

To avoid the harness hurting your shoulders (as it seems to do w/me), I sit a little taller than usual as the harness automatically comes down. Once it "locks" into place, I relax my shoulders and have a better. comfortable fit.

Alien Encounter wasn't a great ride/show to begin with. But in my mind, it's biggest problem is that it seemed sooooooo out of place in Disney (much less the Magic Kingdom).

Changing it to at least Stitch finally gives it the Disney tie-in that it really needed. The tie-in is so good it makes you wonder if they didn't concieve of Stitch first, then invented Alien Encounter, but because Stitch wasn't released yet they made the ride generic for the time being just to changing it so Stitch once the movie was out.

It's still a pretty lame ride, but again, the change over to Stitch at least gives the ride the Disney connection it needed.
