First cruise. 3 day Wish vs 5 day Fantasy WWYD?

3 days for me is not even worth getting on the ship. By the time you get on the ship and do muster, you’re at 2 days and some hours and you barely feel like you’re finding your feet before you’re disembarking. I’ve done 3 night cruises with a 4 night as a b2b but that’s the only time I’d consider it.

So I’d definitely do the 5 night, which for me is the minimum standalone cruise length!

I would always recommend the 3 day as your first cruise. While the videos do make everything look great and awesome, which it is. You never know how you will deal with it. There are things on a cruise that can disturb people. The rocking of the ship, the blackness of the sea at night and feelings of isolation. Some people do not deal with this very well. In the very off chance that you or someone in your party does experience this, three days are easier than five. Also, as a new cruiser, you are not burden with the nostalgia of the older ship design and might actually prefer the better tech of the Wish class ships. I love the extra plugins that they have.

I did choose a 3 day originally because I said I would never ever cruise. Something about not being able to leave bothers me a little. And I’ve always been one to read about when people get stuck on a ship with sickness. As of now I only trust a Disney cruise 😂. (I know things can happen on any brand of ship)

Lol, you sound like one of my sons. He said he doesn't want to cruise because he doesn't want to be trapped 😂

Congrats @VGCgroupie!

I'm sorry to see the Wish getting a lot of shade! I have my first cruise booked next year also, 4 nights on the Wish stopping at both Disney islands, with a couple of nights at VGF before we set sail.
4 nights and both islands sounds great as a first cruise.

I think 3 nights is getting more shade than the Wish. We enjoyed the Wish and want to go back to it at some point because our 3 night was way too short.

But when the Fantasy was half the price of the Wish over New Year's, it wasn't a choice for us.

Half?! I’d take that deal in a second. New Year sounds so fun!

That was me. I didn't know if we'd like to cruise and I get stir crazy quickly. If you have a boarding time of say noon, you'll get to enjoy the ship that first day. We boarded after lunch was closed and had to eat whatever was available by the pool, which is extremely limited if you are vegan. Right after that was Muster drill. The first day was completely shot for us. I learned board as early as possible!

I have developed an inner ear problem and I didn't get seasick on our first cruise, but it's been often on the rest of my cruises. I take bonine about 3-4pm since it's worst during the dinner seating. It works great, but can make you tired+even though it says less drowsy).

I actually do get stir crazy on the ships after one sea day. Some people love them.I love one and get bored on day two most of the time. 🤣 It doesn't stop me from cruising again, though.

Yeah we aren’t expecting to eat very well on the cruise, I know cruising is about food for so many people.

We will try to get to port as early as possible to help get on quicker.

I still haven’t emailed my TA yet since shes off for the holiday. But have to make my choice asap.

We have done 1 hour boat rides in Hawaii and felt no sickness. But sleeping may be different, not sure.

Just did a 4 on the Wish and felt completely rushed and missed out on things. 5 on the Fantasy. All the boats have their pros/cons. What one person loves, another hates.

Seems like 5 day on the Fantasy is best especially since it doesn’t alter our original travel plans at all. The Wish looks amazing so if all goes well on the Fantasy I’m sure we will cruise again in the near future.

I've sailed 3-night and 5-nights on the Dream (sister to the Fantasy), 3-nights on the Wish, and 5-nights on the Magic. The only reason we sailed 3-nights on the Wish is because we sailed with my MIL who is deathly afraid of water and only went because she wanted to vacation with the grandkids. Even she said when it was time to pack up to end the cruise, "WHAT!?! I have to pack up already!! NO!!!!"

Our minimum to cruise is a 5-nighter. Our next one is a 7-night cruise on the Destiny.

Sounds like at this point, you've started to change your mind to the Fantasy. I'd say, "Good choice!" Book a 4-night Wish next time, or even a B2B if time and budget allow :rotfl2:. Regardless, HAPPY sailing!! Report back once you've sailed and let us know what you thought.

That’s so cool that she was not even bothered by the water. I’m excited!!

I will report back. Can’t wait!

Longer is always better. We only did 3-nt cruises when our kids would have a 4-day weekend off school for Jewish holidays in Sept. Otherwise, no need to make is so short.
As for doing activities late at night after debarkation, that all depends. You can go to sleep whenever you want knowing that you don't want to be tired the next day, but the last night onboard is usually busy with packing and last minute things you want to do. I've seen young children still up and having fun well after 10pm that last night and I think to myself, "That's going to be one cranky child in the morning when they have to be out of their room by 8am."

Yep! We played it off for about a year from the time they booked their cruise to surprising the kids at the airport. About spilled the beans a few times, but well worth the surprise when Grandma and Grandpa showed up at the airport terminal just before boarding the plane.

We had an aft balcony, rough September seas and she loved it! Prayers were answered that trip for sure! Only downfall, wasn't long enough.

Enjoy your trip!!
