What's for dinner? Was it "budget"?

We had "sub choice" tonight. The kids picked PBJ subs :upsidedow , DH ham sub, and I had the last of the dilled shrimp salad with lettuce on a sub roll. (DH & I just had half a sub roll.) For dessert, I made a yellow cake. I have fresh strawberries to top it with low sugar french vanilla ice cream and sugar free cool whip. It was all good! :)

We had spaghetti, jarred sauce, and store bought meatballs (from the freezer). I also made a Caesar salad. It was all good!

another Lean Cuisine for me $2.50....Sesame Chicken ...definately NOT my favorite, but edible...(boy do I miss my DH :sad1: :sad1: )
DD had a BDay party so she had pizza and cake at the party.
DS had a chicken nugget Happy Meal. $3.00.

Hubby comes home tonight so next weeks menus will be MUCH more interesting. :rotfl:

I made more spaghetti sauce that I had intended. I added another can of sauce and one of paste and made enough for last night and froze 2 more. So 4.78 for 3 sauces. I love having food in the freezer!

Tonight will be a bag of my bargain chicken (1.00) but I'm not sure what to go with it. Maybe some fresh veggies as they are having a farmers market at the park close to me today. If I get by that way to check it out, I can buy some nice fresh stuff for dinner.

I think we're having Spaghetti and garlic bread

Total about 4.00. Bread is in the freezer from another purchase.

I'm not feeling great today, and I have no idea when the teen is coming home from theater rehearsal soooo...

Tuna sandwiches
Carrot sticks, cucumber sticks, fruit salad

Sadly, with tuna now $1.30 a can (I make two for a family of four) and the high cost of fresh fruits/veggies...it's not as budget a meal as it used to be! :confused3

I just saw that Walgreens will have Bumble Bee tuna on sale starting tomorrow (4/27) 3 cans for $2 so this might help if you have a Walgreens nearby!

ok so I did it,

you can too google webmaster alex, and be prepared to be sad at those that arent here -

cant believe it - the blog tells the story but the tomfoolery here leading us to believe it wasnt done by the dis! the redirection was, and there is no lawylers

let freedom ring!!

We are having fresh Rockfish my DH just pulled out of the Chesapeake Bay! So that part is definately budget- but of course I had to buy some fresh lemons and herbs and a good bottle of wine, so all together- no not really a budget meal.

Are there leftovers?? What time should I be there??

WTH?

Not budget tonight. DH and I are going out for dinner with some friends (three other couples) to a new Brazilian steak house. $22 a person, all the meat you can eat! I've heard good things about this place...I'm excited to try it~

Well I decided - I am doing the chicken (1.00)
potatoes (bag was 1.99 so maybe 0.50)
broccoli (0.99)
tomatoes (0.85) and cucumbers (0.50)
and I splurged and got a cheesecake for dessert!

So Tuesday was rainy and cold so I thought chili would be good since we probably won't have any more cold days since it is "Spring". Used pantry items and frozen burger. Also got cheesy garlic toast at Target for .98 , this week. Okay so I was sorely mistaken. Yesterday it began snowing and blowing and we now have 16 inches of snow on my patio furniture. So, I thought good day for stew. Took 3 soup jars( full of many odds and ends of leftovers- mostly veggies) from the freezer. Rinsed them in the collandar and put them in the the stock pot. Added 3 ziplocks of pan drippings, juices from roasts, etc.. and added two pieces of roast , chopped up. Added a can of chopped tomatoes and a few spices. I am baking some biscuits from the can. I think this whole meal that will probably be at least 3 meals cost around $2.00. Bonus is that I cleaned out some freezer stuff before it went bad and have found 3 more things to make the remainder of the week. I maybe be able to feed a family of 4 for under $30.00 this week for all meals, beverages and snacks. WaHoo!!

You guys are all so good about figuring out how to break down a meal cost. I have no clue. :confused3 So I'll just tell ya I made Southwestern Soup in my crockpot today. I also made cornbread to serve with it.

It's pretty chilly here today and soup sounded yummy! We will all have a bowl tonight (5 of us..hubby might have 2) and we will have plenty of leftovers for lunches on Monday!

I have been using Walgreen's more and more for staples....ends up being cheaper!!

Do you have a recipe or are you like a lot of us(a little bit of this, a little bit of that)??

We went to Costco for 4 things ($200 later and I STILL forgot one thing:headache: ) so we had our usual after Costco dinner:

half of a rotisserie chicken :$2.75
mashed taters: 50 cents (maybe not sure)
gravy: $1 (I made enough for leftovers)
peas: finished up a bag 25 cents
dessert will be strawberries: maybe $1 worth (gotta love Costco's strawberries $5 for 4 lbs)

tomorrow we will have:

chicken skewers ($6.30....we went to Sunflower Market and they were on sale but still kind of a splurge!!)
yams $1.49
salad
watermelon: got one for $1 at Sunflower

I am so much better at giving prices the day I go to the grocery store:rotfl2:
