Shovan- Glad Alexis is better

Ironing- I do it if something is wrinkled that we need to wear. When we were first married, I ironed almost all of our clothes. That stopped after a couple of months.

Ann- The menu for your parent's anniversary bash sounds wonderful.

Minnie56- Love your description of your dinner.

Lauren- Tell Andrew even the big guys strike out. Hope he gets more action in the next game. A trick that always worked on white pants for my oldest son was to do a prewash soak with a water/vinegar combination. Spin the water out then put straight vinegar on the tough stains. Why coaches choose white pants for kids is something I'll never understand. It's just an invitation to see how dirty they'll be at the end of the game.

Lindsay- congrats on the new gym membership.

Kathy- Hope you feel better soon.

Wendie- (( Hugs ))

Nancy- I love stuffed peppers. I'll have to make those soon.

Laura- Great little league strategy. Walks work too!

Liamsaunt- Your pictures just reminded my tummy we didn't have lunch. The chicken looks delicious.

Glynis- I copied both recipes they sound yummy.

WFD tonight- Grilled chicken and a big salad.

Nita, Thanks! Kathy just PM'd me and told me Simple Green for the pants...I had to laugh because...this morning I read all about stains etc. and I soaked the darn things in a bunch of stuff, including vinegar then pretreated them with Shout and washed them...no good. I then rummaged through all my cleaning stuff and sprayed Goo Gone, then made a Tide paste and sprayed them with Simple Green. :scared1: I washed them but the Rock Doctor is down stairs and I do no want to bother him since he is working in the laundry room. I'll let you know if that worked. Yeah, I'm a nut!

Lauren - Kyle's Little League nickname was "walkman" cuz that's about the only way he got on base. He still can't hit.:upsidedow

Love it! If only I can teach Andrew the whole "take a pitch" thing.

BTW, Twin. Idon't know if I am having sympathy pains but I just took some cold meds. My throat is getting sore...:rolleyes1

Lauren, Sorry I missed the post earlier about A & his game! And his stained pants! Hope the stains come out! I'm sure Andrew has much better games in his future!

Just look at Kyle, Kathy says he can't hit, but I've seen his name in the local paper & the boy can pitch!!!

Wendie, Hugs & prayers for you! :flower3:

Nita, Thanks for the well wishes for Alexis.:goodvibes BTW, I'm Sheryl, but I don't expect you to remember it! With pages & pages just on fish tacos, it's getting really hard to keep up on here!!!!

Ok, this is completely off topic, but I need to vent!

My MIL called Alan last night to let him know that she is engaged to a man she has been chatting online with for the last 2 months. She drove, alone, to his home town to meet him on Saturday, and now they are engaged!!! I am just beside myself!!! This was how she met and married husbands number 3, 4 and 5. Those marriages lasted anywhere from 9 weeks to 13 months. I am so sick of it!!! She rushes in, gets disenchanted with marriage to a man she really doesn't know, and then expects her children to bail her out. AND THEY DO!!! I told Alan that this is it! I will not let my children be anywhere near her and this new guy! They have lost so many "grandpa's" that they are really confused about the whole thing. Luckily, Alan agreed. We sent an email to all his siblings letting them know that we will not be at any family gatherings where they will be.

She's completely inappropriate about all this. We even caught her talking explicitly about her "love" life with her teenage granddaughters! That's just not right! I think all of Alan's siblings are pretty fed up with this. Hopefully, they'll all stand firm and not run to her rescue when she decides she's done with this marriage and wants someone better.

Sorry to vent, but I'm really peeved about it!

No need to apologize Glynis. I was :scared1: when you said she drove to meet someone who could have been an axe murderer!!! I don't blame you at all. She needs to grow up.:sad2:

Oh my!!! Glynis hugs for you on this one! :grouphug: I think your decision is a wise one! Who knows when she bring home someone that could actually be dangerous!

Lindsay, You got your wish! :goodvibes Our other thread is back!!! It popped up on my user cp a little while ago!

So are we going to stick on this thread, combine them? :confused3 I know I'm going to go on a serious recipe copying binge!

OMG! I am on #2 and if this doesn't work (it will...I am just trying to make a point) I don't think I will try #3.

You and Alan are doing the right thing for you and your family and that is all that matters.

Hang in there and vent away...what the heck is she thinking? #6???

At least her son turned out well...;)

I love those Tide To Go pens..I used them on my cruise all the time..I'm a slob and I always spill on myself.

Hey, it's not that easy to work a walk..That does take some skill

Tonight for dinner I'm making Parmesan encrusted Tilapia and Clam cakes which are a RI specialty..
Rhode Island clam cakes aren't cakes. They aren't like crab cakes, either. They're savory fritters, sort of like hushpuppies with chopped clams, intended to be served as the primary side for clam chowder in the Biggest Little State in the Union, Rhode Island. They're also seriously addictive no matter where you live.

This recipe uses quahogs (KOH-hogs), the titanic east coast clam that is steamed, chopped, and served in chowder, stuffies, and clam cakes. You can substitute cherrystones, if you'd like, but the sweetness of littlenecks is wasted here. And don't use steamers, please. Really. Trust me.

Once you've got your batter down, you can fiddle with it a bit (bacon, scallions, corn kernels). But don't get all nouvelle. These are meant to be salty, greasy, hearty explosions of slightly briny, slightly corny crunch, with nuggets of chewy clam in each bite.

This recipe is adapted from two excellent cookbooks: Jane and Michael Stern's 1986 Real American Food and Jasper White's Cooking from New England (1989).

5 lb quahogs or cherrystones in the shell (I cheat and use canned or fresh preshelled clams)
2 tsp baking powder
2 c AP flour
1 c johnnycake or corn meal
3 eggs, beaten
1 c milk
4 T butter, lard, or bacon fat, melted
salt
pepper
corn or peanut oil for deep frying

1. Steam the clams in a scant cup of water just until they open. Chop the clam meat roughly, salt and pepper it liberally, and set it aside. Strain the clam juice (the steaming water) through a wet paper towel or cheesecloth and set it aside, too.

2. Combine the dry ingredients well; combine the eggs, milk, 1/2 c of the clam juice (save the rest just in case), and melted fat well. Pour the wet into the dry and combine until smooth, then fold in the chopped clams.

3. Put the batter into the fridge for an hour or so; you want to soften up that corn meal. Meanwhile, heat a couple of inches of the oil to 375F in a deep fat fryer, cast iron skillet, or dutch oven. When you take out the batter, it should be thicker than pancake batter but not so thick that it won't fall easily from your spoon. If it's too thick, just add a bit of the clam juice.

4. Drop, ever so carefully, the batter into the oil, one heaping tablespoon at a time. Don't crowd them; you want that oil to surround the cakes comfortably. Fry for 2-3 minutes until the clam cakes are golden brown. Serve immediately while hot with chowder.

UPDATE: The pants still have small stains but not as bad...thanks ladies!

Try and get them off of him and soaking as soon as you can after the games. Kyle knows the drill, he's practically stripping as he enters the house.:lmao:

Where did you guys find the old thread?? It says locked at 2:53 and I never found it on the community board. Oh well.

I'm off to add it to the OP!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I
Becky - The BBQ Chicken looked awesome!!! Any tips on doing it indoors?

Well, it was not really BBQ, because I made it in my oven. All I did was to chop up a chicken, coat it in BBQ sauce, and bake it at 350 degrees for approx. 40 minutes, turning once and rebasting with sauce. At the very end I ran it under the broiler for about 5 minutes to crisp the skin.

Lindsay, for me, it popped up in my subscribed threads. Did you put a link to it in the index? It's nice to have all those recipes back! :)

Glynis, holy toldeo, that is crazy. I don't blame you one bit.

Jenny, yum, I love clam fritters. Thanks for the recipe! Are you making chowder too?

Kat, OK. I gotta get Andrew on a stripping ritual! :thumbsup2

Lindsay, They moved the threads to the Creative boards...and I believe they are locked but we have all of the old recipes...:cool1:  :yay: :woohoo: :dance3:
