I was at the Studios about a week ago and the entire Nickelodeon Studios area was closed off. What's going on in that area?

I have the scoop,

Due to the fact Viacom is opening a Nickelodeon Studios Hotel in orlando soon and the fact it will be featuring a Game Lab just like a Nick Studios at Universal, Universal decided to close it and turn the 90,000 square foot studio into production offices. However in the future if theese production offices are no longer needed, this could be room for another big attraction.
Universal has seen enough new rides for a few years, next they will be focusing on Islands of Adventure!

You don't have the scoop. In fact, you missed the mark completely.

The studio closing had nothing to do with that hotel. They simply didn't want to renew the contract with Universal. It's Nickelodeon's decision, not Universal's. The space was no longer needed since they tape everything in California now. The only thing that building was being used for was the game show and some animation, which is a waste of space.

The office rumor was never confirmed. We don't know what they're doing with it yet.

Great post.

Seeing that the land is near the front of the park, I hope they do something good with it. Attractions near the front always do well, as they get tons of traffic. Plus it's right behind the special entrance on the side of the HRC.

F-L-A is correct.

I was talking to a concierage clerk at the RP. I asked about if there was a cruise ship planned in the future. I had seen the model in the RP lobby of the Royal Pacific cruise ship and I had to ask.
The clerk told me that even though there are no plans for a cruise ship, they do have big plans for the Nick hotel. She said that they would start doing slime time live at the Nick hotel, along with other fun things. It didn't dawn on me, that The Nick hotel is owned by Holiday Inn, not Loews. I got the impression that Universal plans to do big things at that hotel.

Anyone else here this?

As far as I know, the hotel isn't related to Universal in any way. Unless they intend to build their own, which I doubt happens.

Maybe it's Nick that will be promoting the hotel. Why a rep at Loews would tell me about that, I don't know.

I really think a cruise ship would be a good idea. A Universal version of the Disney cruise, On second thought maybe not. Lets see, Jaws, earthquake and twister are not relaxing things while you are at sea.

Quick update on the cruise ship idea. My 9 year old boy loves the idea of a Universal themed cruise ship. The Jaws theme while being on a ship is right up his alley.

Nick Studios was something my kids LOVED at Universal.. This is a sad morning here. I just read about the demise of the Ghostbusters show and now this?????

What gives??????? :confused3

Just so I understand. The Nick studios is Gone right? There's nothing there? The slime thing dosen't erupt? Nothing?

Man that's too bad. My DD8 really wanted to see that. Like one of the posters mentioned they do still have it listed on the website as an attraction. Any chance of it reopening? Before October? Ok, Ok, I'll let it go.

I always thought that the Nick studios at Universal never lived up to the potential. It could have been so much better. I really found it boring.

I wonder if we will see Front of the line access with Nick hotel stays. If Universal diverts their Nick activities to the Nick Hotel, it would only make sense that they would support stays there with perks.

I'm sad to see this attraction go as well but honestly, I just really wasn't all that good anymore. There's not doubt they will use that space for something bigger and better...just like when they changed the Flinstone's ride to Jimmy Neutron (IMO that was a great UPgrade). Anyway, I'm STILL not over loosing King Kong! :sad2:

Universal is doing well in the rides department for the time being. I hope the start working on some new rides over at IoA though. I haven't even noticed any 'hidden' construction going on there (that usually means there a new attraction in the works). Anyone know if there's anything new planned?? :scratchin

There have been sufficient rumors that the popular ride "Kongfrontation" which closed in 2002 for the opening of the new roller coastert thriller "The Revenge of the Mummy" which opened in May 2004, may be reopening in the recently closed Nickelodeon Studios section of the park.

But as many things are, these rumors are in early stages, due that the new King Kong movie, set to be released in December of 2005, is still a while away.

If the ride is to be remodeled, it would be one of the most expensive rides to remodel due that to replace the fur on each Kong would cost 3 million dollars. But Universal seems to definitly be in talks about remaking this ride with more new and innovative technology.

As Kongfrontation was a big fan favorite, this added to the considerationby Universal, now in partner ship with NBC.

But Universal still seems to be focused on refurbishing Islands Of Adventure Theme park.

If the plans for a remodeled Kongfrontation do infact go through, expect an opening in late 2007, early 2008.

And rumors about office buildings have not been confirmed
