What was Disney thinking??!?!?!?

You keep using the word "conform". I am thinking "respect". That's what it comes down to. Having respect for other people.

But that's your opinion. not saying right or wrong. But I work part time in a clothing store in orlando ( so I'm generalizing, nobody shoot ok!) but alot of people from brazil and the other Spanish speaking areas could careless. They wouldn't find it disrespectful. They change their clothes while not being in a fitting room. Open the fitting room naked. Their kids barley have any clothes on and the dresses they buy for their 11 year old is something i would wear out to be 'sexy'. So once again YOU find it disrespectful, OTHERS don't.

And btw, do I think the song is appropriate for my two young girls? No.. but I use my responsibility as a parent to make sure they arent exposed (pun intended) to it.. but also respect other's rights to have their enjoyment. Disney is not our baby sitter or our child groomer.. thats our job as parents.

The point is this isn't some random mall. This is disney. People have a reasonable expectation of higher standards and a family oriented experience. That is one of the main reasons many people choose to vacation there.

Sure. The question returns to, what is obviously family friendly and who determines it?
To you (and me, I really do agree with you about the song, that's not my issue here) Blurred Lines is obvious
To someone else the song (whatever that song is) that offends them is just as obvious. To them at least.
So my question and issue is, just how to determine what is obviously offensive. Do they (Disney) determine it based on 1 complaint? Does it take 10 to make the list? Some other arbitrary criteria?

Just because there are others that are not clear cut does not mean Disney needs to completely abdicate their need to use good judgment.

How about just starting with the obvious ones?

I'm guessing this was all a big "oops" yet so many are defending it.

Ok so respect other's right to hear what they wish and walk away if you do not like it.

You mean..... remove your small child from the Disney Jr. area so they won't hear a questionable song? And respect the "rights" of others to hear an objectionable song in the Disney Jr. area?

LOL, if we can't fix the easy stuff in this country, I'm giving up hope.

My point is NOT all people do, and 'family standards' are different' These people shopping at the random mall are the same people who are standing in line with you.

Its a song, with subject matter your child probably doesn't even understand. Afawk, it was played ONCE. I can easily overlook this, you however think its the end of the world. And by and by, its not even confirmed this actually happened.. have we heard anything from the op since the op?

How rude and condescending. I do NOT think it is the end of the world. I do however find it inappropriate for my children. That is what I am arguing here. Not wether it is the end or the world or not.

Yeah, "Blurred Lines" played at my company FAMILY picnic recently too. Nice.

When DD8 was around 4, right after Carrie Underwood's first album came out, she memorized the words to "Wasted". One of the parents of another kid in her daycare had a FIT about her singing it in class and said something to the Director about it. The Director actually told him to get a life. Yeah, she mentions whiskey in the song but come on. The song has a great message and it's not necessarily about being "wasted" on alcohol.

exactly. if i'm reading right, this was in the Disney JUNIOR area? this area is geared towards small children.

i do think that someone wasn't using good judgment in this case. the song isn't even simply "questionable," it's intention was to be offensive.

i hope that the OP complained at Guest Services. if you don't like something, then let them know.

I do not think people need to conform. Be a little open to hearing what I am actually saying. What you listen to, in your home, is completely up to you and vice versa. We are not talking about peoples personal choices. We are talking about what people are being FORCED to listen to in PUBLIC.

Yeah, but people make this same argument with the overcensorship of the radio and television. Because THEY don't want to hear it, they can't take it upon themselves to change the channel or flip the dial. Instead, they complain to the station managers and get radio DJs fired for "offending" them. It's way too often that people have to "apologize" for doing their job. It's sickening. And this is the mentality people have. While I don't think it is appropriate in a Disney Theme Park, I don't think there is any issue with it playing in a supermarket, clothing store, or anything else that's not Disney branded. There is no FORCING. Everyone has their own opinion. And everyone can make their own decisions. If it bothers you, just walk away. No one is making you listen to anything. Again, I agree it should not be playing in WDW at ALL! We are on the same page there. But everyday life is another story.

Some people sure are in the mood to argue today.

It is a pretty simple concept to understand, though I see some will continue to try and drown out other posters and their opinions.

The song is not appropriate to be played in a Disney venue, let alone the Disney Jr area. It isn't even an argument as to whether the song is family-friendly. It isn't.

I'd be the one grooving to the music and singing the lyrics out loud. Judge me if you want but Disney already screens the songs they play. If they were to refuse play a song because some people will find if filled with innuendo there would be NO songs playing at the parks because you can turn any lyrics around and make them sound dirty.

All these pages and there was only ONE post by op.. folks you got baited.. it NEVER happened

ITA that its inappropriate. Honestly, I've found myself questioning radio disney's choices as well. On a three hour road trip last month, we had radio disney on the whole time for the kids and in that three hours, Selena Gomez's "Come and Get It" came on about a dozen times. Now I've seen her perform that live on an awards show and the "It" she's referring to is what we adults think it is. Not appropriate for a star idolized by young girls. Things like this is why so many girls wind up pregnant or taken advantage of. Our media sexualizes girls so young and they eat it up.

So, yes, I would have complained about lyrics like that playing in a family place. Disney won't let you in the park if you're wearing an offensive tshirt or have an offensive tattoo. Why not censor the music better?
See what I say about innuendo? IT is not what you are thinking, it's about her love. She says she's now ready to give him her love and if he wants it, to come and get it.
She's almost 21, she won't sing disney songs her whole life.
Agreed.

The OP has been a regular poster on these boards for a long time and I don't believe for a minute that she made it up.

Idk after all these responses and not one feedback from op, sounds like a bait to me. No matter how long op has been around

I really don't see what the big deal is....hopefully most children would no clue as to the context and if you don't make a big deal about it, they won't even notice.
