What was Disney thinking??!?!?!?

Can someone post the exact moment when that DJ gets fired for playing a song commonly on EVERY top-40 radio station at 11:00pm? Only then will true justice be done.
It's unlikely that the DJ would be fired, but he'll be asked to be a bit more aware of his mix.

To be fair, the "dance party" here isn't a normal after-hours party that takes place on Hollywood Blvd. It's a "Disney Junior" dance party that takes place in the Animation Courtyard on EMH nights. It is presented in front of the Disney Junior attraction and includes Disney Junior characters. Disney Junior is marketed to and broadcast for pre-schoolers.

So ... not exactly a typical Top-40 audience.

Speaking of too much time on their hands, who interrupts their time at WDW (last night) to post to DIS about a song they heard in the park?

The rest of us are bored and at home...you're the one on vacation, yet still on Disboards...

Because there is so much to see and experience on the boat back from DHS to BCV at 11:00 at night...

It really is sad that people dont get it. Its not about their right to hear a trashy song, or someone who doesnt like it just being able to walk out of the area. Its about what is appropriate for the Disney Jr. area in a family themed park. The song clearly isn't, it is not filled with innuendo, the message is quite clear. As far as whether or not a child would get it, that doesnt matter because I'm pretty sure its not the child buying the ticket.

what brings me to my other point... whats more offensive? Yes the song had sexual overtones, but potc has straight out lyrics of kidnapping rape and murder..but we accept that better?

When did they move it outside?:confused3 It has always been in the building, not in the courtyard.

Also I think it should be noted that OP was in DHS for EMH yesterday...at 11:00pm at night when this happened!! So, perhaps WDW has an "after-dark" playlist that might be different than the noon playlist?

I think you probably lose the right to demand purity music for the safety of your innocent child's ears after 10pm, IMO.

Actually, Disney itself proclaims to NOT be the case. At Jellyrolls, a 21 and over bar where alcohol is served, the piano players/singers and actually not allowed to play songs that are not "Disney-spirited" in content. I know because I was there when the pianist explained why he couldnt perform "Scotty Doesnt Know".

I've actually found that boat ride to be one of the more relaxing and enjoyable experiences at WDW. It's when we smile and talk about everything we did during the day, point out how nice the resorts look like at night, discuss what we're going to do when we get back to the resort and tomorrow's plans. I'm actually not allowed to have my phone out at all.

Yes, her "love". As in MAKING LOVE. Now who's being naive?

Have you read the lyrics? Show me where love could be constructed to making love instead of simply the feeling. I used this song to teach my junior English class since they are huge Selena Gomez fans. Believe me, I looked and looked for sexual references and not once I was able to find one. You're looking too much into the lyrics.

The Cookie Monster could be considered sexual if you looked at it just right.

Well, if that's true, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. It's a 21+ bar (pretty much the ONLY place on property restricted in that manner) and they're not allowed to play "inappropriate" music? Probably because some hysterical lady is going to complain about "the children..."

Speaking of Scotty not knowing, what song is that?

Actually, they pillage, plunder, rifle, loot, kidnap, ravage, extort, pilfer, filch, sack, maraud, embezzle, high-jack, kindle, char, inflame, and ignite.

However, they also fully admit that they are rascals, scoundrels, villains, knaves, devils, black sheep, bad eggs, beggars, blighters and ne'er-do-well lads who are, in the end, "loved by our mommies and dads".

While kidnapping is, indeed, mentioned, rape and murder don't show up anywhere in the lyrics.

The other side of the argument is that the people singing the pirate song are fairly obviously bumbling, clueless, charicatures of pirates who are meant to be funny and harmless. Now, perhaps the lyrics of "Blurred Lines" are meant to be similarly bumbling, funny and harmless, and just aren't coming across that way.

I must be getting old..........I listened to the song 2 or 3 times and couldnt even understand the lyrics! LOL!

And from what you said, I think the point is made that you can interpret these songs whichever way you want. You can ignore the lyrics, you can think they are perfectly acceptable and sing them out loud (I do this at POTC) or you can cover your child's ears and shriek!

And then complain to management.

Im kidnap and ravage.. what are the kidnapping and ravaging cows? And sack is murder.. and I'm sure they want the red head for a long meaningful relationship

If your 10 year old listens to the radio, they've heard it. And I dont know where the OP is from, but our radio edit version still has that line in it.

We do listen to the radio, and no, she's never heard the song. I pulled it up on itunes and played a portion of the snippet to her in case she had heard it elsewhere I was unaware of (staying all night at a friend's house, etc). She'd never heard it.

I don't wrap my children in a bubble, but I don't purposefully expose them to things that I think are inappropriate. I know there are situations that I have to use as a teachable moment. For example, the infamous gangnum song that my kindergarten child overheard another child singing on the playground. We had to talk about it and replace the "s" word with another since all the kids were going around singing it.

I don't think this song in question is appropriate for the intended preschool audience, or my 10 year old for that matter. While many have stated that most kids wouldn't understand what the words were referring to, I agree, but that doesn't make it right in my opinion. Kids are a lot brighter than we give them credit for too. I believe Disney made a poor judgement call by playing even the edited version of this song. What bothered me most was where the song was being played--at an entertainment party that targets preschoolers as their audience.

My actual point was that Bayou Mickey was wrong and that rape and murder don't show up in the pirates song.

But your point works too.

ravage is "to cause severe and extensive damage to"

sack is "the pillaging of a town or city; plunder or destroy"

As they never say what they want the redhead for, that's obviously left up to interpretation. Although it does appear from the ride that the redhead doesn't particularly mind the attention.

I have it on very good authority that DHS management has been made aware of the song in question and are looking into it to determine how it got into the Disney Junior mix. Since this is the first time anyone has mentioned something like this as part of the dance party, my guess is that it wasn't part of the mix that is put together by Disney, but rather a part of the DJ feed. Likely, the DJ was either not aware of the lyrics or didn't realize it was in his mix. I imagine the song will not be heard again in this venue (and I also imagine that the PTB will be taking a closer look at the DJ feed as a cautionary measure).

Now ... everyone breathe. :flower3:

I just listened to it and couldn't understand half the words. And I've already read the lyrics! (Thanks, PP)

T.I.'s part is the "dirtiest" and he mostly mumbles. I highly doubt that anyone under the age of 10 could string together an entire sentence in that song. It does have a catchy-party beat, though.

Maybe Blurred Lines was talking about the redhead, huh WDSearcher? It's all a POTC tie-in. Lovely.
