What type of DVCer are you? Borrow/Bank/Always even?

On the other thread someone said this would make an interesting poll. What "state" are you in when using your points. Right now we are in borrow mode.

I think we had a similar poll a few months ago. In any event, we are the "combination", since we have two contracts and always have one in a borrowed state and the other in a banked state.

Thanks Granny how embarrassed would I be if I voted in that pole LOL. But I wasn't a DVCer yet "back then" LOL But I guess we already have the results

At first borrowed because we got a slightly stripped contract. Now we bank/borrow slightly according to need. I'm thinking of doing a Xmas trip in late 2005 and will bank/borrow for that. Also plan to lump a few years' points sometime to get a GV somewhere.

It never hurts to re-run polls. The wording is always a little different so the results vary.

Besides, I learn more from the comments than the numbers. It's a good way to stir input from the board visitors.

We're always in a combination mode, depending on what year it is. We've settled into getting AP's every other year, so we do a lot of trips (days) those AP years, but on the off year, while we still go, we don't do the parks (Will do more of SW, IoA, US, and Disney non-park activities those years).

Off hand, taking two years worth of points, we probably use 70% of them the years we have the AP's, and 30% the years we don't. Thus we bank/borrow as needed.

I just called member services Tues morn to have them rollover our remaining 93 pts from 04.
Since I couldnt roll them over to 06, I had to book a vaca for next yr, right?!
So w/those 93pts DS & I will have a mother/son vaca next August- 6nights VWL studio (after staying 3nights elsewhere onsite)
05's pts will then be rolled over to 06

I had always been a banker until borrowing from 2006 for a March 2005 trip. I plan to be on the bank side again after this. I like have points to pay with.

we have a december use year so we seem to borrow from the "year" our vacation is. For example, we are going to HH next April 05. I had to "borrow" from my 05 use year to make the ressies but i justify it saying that I am using my points for the same year I am vacationing in. In other words, i am using my 05 points for my 05 vacation. Does this make any sense?? lol

We always borrow about 30 to 40 points every year. This borrowing is going to catch up with us one of these years. Oh well......time to add more points!

When we first bought, we really didn't know the ins and outs of how the DVC worked, so we went and used our 214 points for a 214 point trip. Once we became a little more savvy and figured out this banking and borrowing thing, staying at Swan/Dolphin one weekend night, using SV Sun-Fri, we are able to make our points stretch a whole lot further. I must say we love multiple trips per year, so we are very often in a state of borrowing. I obviously need more points!

I checked always break even, because we seldom bank or borrow more than 10% of our points.

When I purchased my resale in 2003 it had 200 banked points and then accrued the 200 points for the 2003 year in December. So I was lucky to start out with extra points to play with.

I have banked points into 2004 and will probably bank into 2005. Each year the number of banked points had been decending. I expect that at some point in the near future I will either have to borrow or purchase a few more points!

I bank, borrow and transfer. Currently I have 32 banked points. and A December reservation. I never stay weekends and have gone down to use my AP's and stayed at AKL. If I am traveling with a group I will stay where they are staying DVC or not. So in that way my points get stretched a bit more. As for the transfer issue My DB and I will accomadate each other if one is a little short or one is found with a surplus. we both share with family so we can somtimes combine to make a ressie for someone else.
