My SIL and three nephews are coming to visit this week. I plan on cooking for them a couple of nights. I'm undecided on exactly what yet. I asked my SIL and she said they'll be happy with anything. I made these sausage balls once and they turned out REALLY good.

I don't remember what I served with them. Would meatloaf go good with them? Any suggestions?

Meatloaf and sausage balls? No. Anything with meat in it is a main in itself; not a side. Go with a hearty salad with lots of chopped veggies and greens and maybe some crusty bread.

Sausage balls???? Never heard of that but meat served with a side of meat is not a good idea. Holy heartburn!

I'd cook some peppers and onions, and hoagie rolls. I'd make a big garden salad, and maybe even baked ziti.

I've had these all my life at tailgates, parties, funerals, etc...never in my life had them as dinner. They've always been an appetizer or finger food. Let us know how it goes!

Like others have mentioned, I haven't ever really thought of sausage balls as an entrée. Around here, they've always been more like a finger food or a snack served at parties & other get-togethers. You eat them while you're watching a football game, & then you have the leftovers for breakfast the next day. We always have brunch on Thanksgiving at my mother-in-law's, & she always has some sausage balls set up on her sideboard along w/ the other snack-y type foods.

Maybe serve them w/ a salad? Or some mixed fruit? If you're not worried about too many carbs, roasted potatoes might be a good side dish to serve w/ them along w/ a salad.

I know this is not the advice you are asking for but...

Do you have a grill? Nothing is easier than marinating some chicken parts, grilling corn and serving a huge salad with fresh tomatoes and cucumbers or a tomato, basil mozzarella salad. Or grill hamburgers, etc.

If I were going to serve sausage balls, I would make it all appetizers. We do that a couple of times a year - we have a "party" for dinner and just eat appetizers.

We have only done them as an appetizer and a couple times for breakfast when we had a bunch left from a party of something. For a breakfast meal, add eggs, toast and fruit. One time during the week would be plenty.

I would serve hash brown casserole, a vegi tray, biscuits, and some mixed fresh fruit. My family loves hash brown casserole. I wouldn't serve the vegi tray if it was for breakfast, only if it was a lunch or dinner.

They are only an appetizer around here. Couldn't imagine eating them as an entree. My stomach hurts just thinking about it.
