What to serve with sausage balls..

I would either serve with egg noodles and a salad, or, like a pp said, I would serve with some nice squishy rolls and onions and peppers to make sausage sandwiches. I would serve potato salad and a garden salad with it.

My SIL and three nephews are coming to visit this week. I plan on cooking for them a couple of nights. I'm undecided on exactly what yet. I asked my SIL and she said they'll be happy with anything. I made these sausage balls once and they turned out REALLY good.

I don't remember what I served with them. Would meatloaf go good with them? Any suggestions?

I don't think I'd serve meat as a side dish for a meat, but if I were doing a buffet type meal, I'd maybe include both.

I just looked at the recipe, and I'm thinking buttered egg noodles, applesauce and steamed green beans. Those are my go to sides when I serve sausage links for dinner (my husbands favorite comfort food)

Sausage ball sandwiches? That would be like putting bread on bread. Gross.

How on earth would that be bread on bread??? It's like a meatball sandwich, but with sausage ball instead of a meatball. Kind of like a twist on an Italian sausage sandwich with peppers and onions. Not sure what is so gross????

Exactly what I was thinking. I've never made sausage balls, but I do make meatballs and I can't figure out how the pp makes hers if eating them is like eating bread. I guess I would think that was pretty gross too

Every time I read the title of this thread I have a song from South Park rolling around in my head. The Chef made something close to sausage balls, but they were a bit salty if I remember correctly.

Sorry, and carry on. :)
Yummmm. Chefs chocolate salty balls are the best.

Did you look at the recipe? Have you ever eaten a sausage ball? There are two cups of Bisquick in those things. It is nothing like a meatball because it is basically a biscuit with sausage and cheese.

Seriously, I dare you to make that recipe as written (even though that is not my recipe, mine uses shredded cheddar and no soup) and tell me that they'd be good on a sandwich. Go right ahead.

The recipe calls for 1 pound of sausage and 2 cups of Bisquick. I've never made/eaten them either, but that does sound like it would be pretty bread/biscuit like.

I have not eaten a sausage ball. I looked at the recipe and I would think the bisquick is like a binder, kind of like bread crumbs in meat balls. The picture does not look like a biscuit to me, but whatever. As I said, I have never eaten or made sausage balls. If it is like a biscuit, OP, I have no ideas for you. Sounds like they are made to be eaten as a side to a meal?

Well I have eaten and made many, so I feel pretty qualified to say that it's bread-y. One would never use that much Bisquick as just a binder. Basically the whole thing makes a dough that you roll into balls. They're appetizers.

I didn't look at the recipe, but that would explain it. I was thinking sausage balls like meatballs. If these are more biscuit like then I think they should rename them to sausage biscuits. They sound good, but I would agree that putting them on a sandwich might be too much bread. I guess I'll have to change my answer upthread

The comments even refer to the "dough".

She said balls.

Sorry, my inner adolescent escaped. She's back in custody again. Carry on.
