What to pay babysitter with these conditions?

How much would you pay a 16 year old to babysit your 2 and 6 year old?

Approximately 5 hours, you'll be picking her up and bringing her home, and providing her with dinner.

That would run $50 for a teenage babysitter here as well. It's a little more for a college/nursing student.

I babysat when I was 15/16 for $5/hour!! (and that was only 5 years ago), granted they were neighbours, but I thought $5 an hour was fair considering I was getting dinner and usually just had to pop in a DVD. Maybe if the kids are harder to handle it'd be different.
Depends on how well you know the babysitter probably, it might make you feel obligated to pay more, or perhaps it'd be the opposite and the babysitter wouldn't feel like she needed to be paid as much (like in my case.)

I pay my teenage sitters $10/hr to watch the kids (I use two sisters who rotate duty). I have three but one's a teen so she's not really watching him- esp. considering he sometimes babysits too . I'd have oldest DS watch them exclusively as he works for iTunes GCs but I can't trust him to get along with his brothers for more than two hours.

No less than $5, no more than $7 given what you are providing the sitter.

I only pay more b/c I have more kids and I expect sitters to provide their own transportation.

I don't consider a meal compensation.

We live in the Bay Area (CA) where it is really expensive to live in general.

My DD (16) makes $10 an hour babysitting. She doesn't have a license yet... so she has to be picked up and dropped of. Most family don't mind doing this.

DD gets $6 here to watch 3 kids for several hours at a time-- and the youngest can be a handful. Actually all 3 can be at times. She has had to call me and I threaten to come over unless they listen to her and do what she says! (and yes the parents know and fully endorse my threats and any follow through!)

i was 17, baby sitting a 3 year old for 8 hours and got paid 20.00. and i ordered pizza, which i paid for. i didn't baby sit there much after that.

$50 would be the minimum - for a 16 year old, $10 an hour is the going rate. If she's eating, she's also feeding. However, I tell my friends to only pay dd13 $6 an hour - she's only 13, and already knows the kids well.

And yes, when I was a kid, I got $1 an hour, and when I was 25, a college graduate, and going for my MA in education, I only got $6 an hour, and was expected to watch a 4 year old, and transport the other kids to and from school, and make them lunch. Times have changed.

I pay my teen sitter $5 an hour. I usually don't have to have a sitter (one of the perks of having a 15 yr old ) but when I do I ask the daughter of a neighbor.

She lives 4 houses down the block, so no one has to pick up/drop off unless the weather is nasty, in which case I will drive her here and back. Sometimes my kids go to her house instead of her coming here.

She never has to cook when she is here... either I will cook something and she just has to serve, or I order pizza. When the kids go to her house, they eat with her family - something which her parents invite them to do and is completely Ok with everyone.

She doesn't have to do any cleaning either, but she usually throws the dishes in the dishwasher and tidies up after baths, cause she is just that kind of kiddo.

She supervises bathing and PJ's, and spends the rest of the time playing with the kids, doing crafts, or reading them stories. My kids love their sitter, and have been known to ask DH and I to go out more often so Katie can come over.
