Ds (13) asked me what I thought were a couple of reasonable questions the other day....

What do we do with my scooter and our 3 year old's stroller while we are on rides?

Are there some areas we won't be able to get into with the scooter? (I think he was referring to the boat rides, etc... is there anywhere to leave our "wheels") I know I likely can't ride the monorail - doesn't it drop you off somewhere different that where you got on?

Typical of my ds, he's worried that I'm going to have to just sit and watch all day.

Not sure about DisneyLand but at DisneyWorld theres usually an area near the rides and shows for scooters and strollers. You just leave them there while your on the ride. Hopefully someone else will know for sure.

Yep, Disneyland has areas to leave your wheels while you're riding. For (I think) all the rides the stroller area is outside the rides. For some the scooter you'll need to go to the exit of the ride (for some of them) and they'll have you leave the scooter there. Each ride is a little different. CMs are generally very helpful letting you know what to do with each.

BTW best tip I know of for the stroller is to take a (clean) diaper, pour some coke into it and roll it up so that it looks used. Hang it in a clear plastic bag from the handlebar of the stroller. For one thing it makes yours pretty easy to find. It also makes it less likely that it will get "mistaken" for someone elses.

LOL I'm hoping diapers won't be an issue by then, but at the rate we're going... Good tip, though. Since we're taking the umbrella stroller I had thought maybe folding it and bike locking it to the scooter might be easiest, if we can do that. Saves us from finding both of them in the crowd. At least we have insurance on the scooter.

Have others actually taken scooters into the parks? Do the parks allow them? I know that you aren't allowed to bring wagons (i.e. Little Tikes plastic sort, Radio flyer, etc.), but that strollers are allowed. I didn't see any scooters during our visit in March...then again, I wasn't really looking for them either. I found the rules about wagons on the Disneyland website, but I can't seem to find it today.

SKFamily means scooter, as in electric wheelchair. It's not specified in the first post, but there was another thread on accessibility with her hotel.

SKFamily, as for locking the two together I'm pretty sure they won't let you do that. CMs will move and rearrange the strollers etc as required to try and make more room in the stroller storage area. If you were able to fold it and put it on the scooter somehow and lock it, that might be permissable.

FWIW frankly I'd be tempted to do the diaper thing just to personalize/protect the stroller. I've seen other recommend the rolled up diaper, frankly I think it's more effective with the brown coke stain showing. Trust me, no one wants to go near it then.

Go to guest services/city hall and ask them for an accessability guide. It will give you the ins and outs of using a scotter.

Thanks.

Yes, I mean the scooter for disabled use, not the other kind. Sorry, should have specified.

We'll definately do the coke in the diaper thing... I like that one. ::yes:: It's only an umbrella stroller, but it would be a hassle if we lost it.

Just got back and used a scooter for my father in law one day. The usual thing on all the rides except Autotopia seems to be to go up the exit ramp, leave the scooter right by the ride. On Haunted Mansion he rode it up to the mansion then the CM kindly moved it for us (using his master key) to the exit after we went in. All the people in your party will get to get in the ride that way which is nice but you feel kind of funny doing that on rides like Splash, since people are standing there waiting for two hours. Beware on Big Thunder Mountain! You pull up from the exit and get in the opposite side everybody else does. It is quite narrow and you have to then turn the thing around when you leave. My father in law almost drove off the platform and gave us all a heart attack! Also you will get in a special line for the shows. For Snow White you have a great view.

We've been several times in the last few years and have never had a problem with our strollers. I've taken the umbrella kind, and also a heavier duty double stroller (for my twins). We always take our valuables on the rides with us, but other than that, we just leave the strollers in the designated parking areas, and they have always been there for us when we came out. Just my 2 cents.
