What Rides Are Overhyped?

S T I T C H........................... do I need to say more

Peter Pan's flight and Test Track. I never could quite get all the excitement of peter pan and the wait is always way long. Test Track Like another person said I get more excitement driving down I-94 In MI, I do love seeing how they test the cars and stuff though.

Wow, I guess I'm one of the rare test track fans huh? I love that ride!!!! I personally wouldn't wait in a line to ride Space Mountain. We go in September so we never wait in long lines but for some reason, the only line we ever encounter has been at Space Mountain...I refuse to wait in it.

There's at least two of us, Tinkerbelle--Test Track is the #1 ride for me!! (Somebody besides us must like it or I wouldn't have to wait in line so long)

Space Mountain. It's ok, but I don't really care for it. IMO, it's uncomforable, dark, and not worth the waits it gets. I'm not even a big coaster fan, but I still think it's pretty lame.

Soarin' is my current favorite at EPCOT, but I admit it's overhyped. There's no way that anything could live up to the hype I've seen about it through both Disney and on these boards that make it out to be the greatest thing in the history of theme parks. It's a wonderful ride though, but nothing could live up to its hype.

In my opinion, these are the rides that simply do not live up to the hype for me:

MK -- Jungle Cruise (loved it the first couple of times, then my 2-year old rode it and said 'Not real animals'. The only redeeming thing about the ride are the corny jokes, this ride is in serious need of a redesign)

MGM -- Backlot Studios Tour. First you wait in a long line watching the same Pearl Harbor film clips over and over. Then you watch four people get soaking wet. Then you walk through the prop shop (best part of the ride). Then you wait for the tram to talk you on a very abbreviated tour of the backlot (since the stunt show took up most of the space). I've never been to Universal, but my brother has and he says Universal's tour is like 10 times better.

AK -- tie between Dinosaur and Kali River Rapids. Dinosaur probably wins the tiebreaker, because I'll never ride that again. Way too much herky-jerky action going on. I spent more time bracing myself than I did enjoying the ride. Kali is fun, but too short. And you can literally ride it 10 times in a row without getting wet. It just all depends on who goes down the big drop backwards. For some reason I thought this ride was a lot longer.

EPCOT -- Ellen's ride. OMG, talk about put you to sleep at the beginning of the ride. The actual ride itself, going through the dinosaurs and all that was OK, but the rest sucked. I also did not like Figment, but I hear the old version was better (I never got to ride that one).

I know a lot of people haven't ridden it but Im going to say Expedition Everest. Here's why. Disney hyped it up so much that there was no way it was going to live up to expectations, $100 million? I dont what I was expecting, and don't get me wrong I relaly do like Expedition Everest, but there are MANY MANY roller coasters that are 1/10th of that in cost, and are much better.

I also think Stitch is not only overated, its pathetic. It needs to go.
Bring back Alien Encounter! :)

Jennifer

They spent $100 million? Was that marketing also? Selling tons of different souveniers of a Yeti that looks nothing like the one on the actual ride?

wow..I'd like to see the cost break-down.

KALI!!!! I guess because the one at six flags, Dollywood, you-fill-in-the-blank is much better in our opinion.

Loved Test Track tho' . . . maybe because we had nothing to compare it to?

Wow! You all are a tough crowd! :scratchin
I have to say Lights Motors Action didn't do too much for me, but it WAS raining and my rear end was hurting from the cold, wet metal seats, so I was a bit grumpy. Hopefully, I'll enjoy it more on a sunny day. My sons were disappointed in Big Thunder Mountain, but they were expecting some very wild coaster.
One thing for sure is that we will NEVER go on Stitch again.

BUZZ LIGHTYEAR. There is a Scooby-Doo ride at King's Island that is identical in concept and better executed. I expect more from Disney.

I also have to say that I thought Soarin' was a little overrated. It was enjoyable, but it's basically a chair-lift over an IMAX screen. Nice, but some more special effects might make the experience more interesting.

Test Track. It has to be the most overrated and boring ride at WDW~!

Stitch and Jungle Cruise. I'm not a big Test Track fan, either. Not that I don't enjoy it, I just can't believe people wait in those lines for it!

Here's my vote for Stitch. It has been falling off the wagon lately though. I hardly ever see a line for it anymore. The magic is gone. Thank god! Ick.

Each time a thread like this starts, it proves again that for every person who loves a ride, someone else wants it shut down...except for Stitch. I've never heard anyone say a good word about it.

I loved the part of stitch were he burps chilidog in your face!!! Gross! but funny.

I agree with test track. I guess i just expected more than a ride in a car.

Everest cost about $100 million. That is just the design and construction costs. That does not include marketing costs. While that seems like a lot it is on par with most major Disney attractions. In fact Mission Space cost a good bit more than Everest.

Everest is much more than just a roller coaster. And the actual coaster only cost about 1/10 of that $100 million. While there are better coasters none of them have a 200-foot mountain, waterfalls, an authentic Nepalese village, a yeti, etc. That is where the money is spent. It takes money to create authentic, richly detailed environments. That’s what makes Everest a "Disney attraction" and not simply another coaster. Themeing makes up the majority of most Disney attractions cost, and at the same time is the exact thing that sets them apart.

i agree with this as i can go to Cedar Point if i want coasters imo that isn't what disney is set up to do...( btw, we live fairly close to cp and never go, just not that interested in it )

Most over hyped is imo Test Track..we waited an waited to go on this and then were thinking" huh, that 's it?" i kept thinking the exciting part would start a but it never did. :teeth:

n general agree with another poster abouT ee and really many of the big ticket rides. they need to stop selling them as the best thrill that ever existed as that just leads to people saying" Na ah" cause they do compare them with "thrill rides" and WDW rides just don't create the actual terror( ;) ) of some rides at other places ( imo not apples to apples, like the last time we went to CP the millenium was the big deal (which is like a baby ride now compared to others) but way scarier than anything WDW has to offer). imo the whole experience of wdw is what makes it great rather than ( like at Cedar Point) one or 2 rides. hope this makes sense
