Hi Gale/travelitis--it's Mary Jo!!
How could I possibly resist reading a thread about the female face characters!! LOL!! Thank you so much for the wonderful compliments about my DD, Snow White. I think she is the best SW in WDW--but, of course, I am biased!! My DD also "is" Ariel--and I must say I am sooooooo glad that she is NOT the Ariel pictured in this thread because I'm afraid my feelings would have been very hurt by some of the comments. (Just so you know, some of the Princesses DO read these threads.)
There are some interesting questions here--like how many blondes wear black wigs and vice versa--and what is the most coveted Princess role. I can tell you that the Princesses do wear colored contacts if their eyes aren't the right shade.
AngieBelle is definitely correct. "Face" auditions are grueling and can be demoralizing. The young lady must meet definite specifications--and then must look right in the costume and be able to perform the role (Alice has a British accent, for example).
Being a Disney Princess is a fabulous experience but it is very hard work and not always totally fun. For example, DD told me today that as she was leaving her Meet and Greet area, one mother was irate because her child didn't get an autograph--so the mother called my daughter "a b-tch!!" If only that mother knew how much she hurt my daughter. If only she understood that the characters have rules that they must follow--and going off-set on time is one of them. Fortunately, the magical moments with the "little ones" far outweigh the occasional nastiness.
I consider myself a very lucky mom. I'll never be a Princess but I'm living the experience vicariously through DD. Lucky me!!
