What I find interesting about the female "face" characters...

I can tell you that on one trip to DW with just my DH and I, he fell in love with the Ariel in Ariel's Grotto! It was sooo embarrassing! He made me stand in line for like 45 min. just to get her autograph for "the kids". I swear he scared her, he wouldn't leave until I took a couple pictures of her with him and then videotaped her. I will say she was pretty and shall we say that her costume fit her well. I also think Snow White at MK looks very pretty too. My son says that she looks like the real one! We have seen her twice there so far.

ROFLMAO! That isn't a real picture of an Ariel at WDW, is it? I'm sorry to say that she is most beauty deprived. I'm sure WDW can do better then that!:D

I hope it was a different one than the one pictured above or I'd have to question your husband's sanity! LOL!

WOW! That picture looks like someone from a bad costume party! Whew....I'm not sure who thought casting her was a good move.

When I have shown my vactions pictures to friends and family someone has always commented on that one :)

It really was at WDW it was during a parade during last Dec 2002.

Gosh, I hope that poor girl doesn't read this board. I'd hate to see someone say that I looked ugly. :(

Well since you aren't putting yourself out there as Cinderella or Ariel you have nothing to worry about. If that is your picture in your post then you are far from ugly anyway! You have to admit that someone with that face shouldn't be a face character. Disney must have been desperate. I will re edit my original post to be more PC if it makes you happy. :D

Don't worry, Kelly Preston is NOT ugly.

This Ariel on the the other hand....err...maybe she has a nice singing voice?!? Ahh...I'm sure she has a nice personality, that's it.

I wish I had the ability to post the Cinderella with flaming acne picture I have.I'm sure the people from Pro-Active would LOVE to get their hands on her!!

Now, let's be charitable here and decide that since it was "just" during a parade the "real" Ariel got sick and this co-worker bravely decided that she would "sub"' for the real Ariel for the length of the parade. ;)

Besides, she looks like she's a very nice person. :)

This is the funniest thread!! DH and I always comment on the faces of the face characters. The Snow Whites and Belles are always very beautiful, but the Ariels?! That's another story (and she's my favorite character!!). We did actually see a kind of homely looking Mary Poppins at 1900 Park Fare a few years ago, but the Alice was absolutely gorgeous.

How about the Princes? I saw our first Prince Charming close up at the the castle for breakfast last October. Positively gruesome bordering on scary! He had that Ken doll plastic hair and his face was really creepy in that it didn't match the hair at all. My 3 y/o cried and shreiked when he moved in for the picture. She was in hysterics she was so scared of him. After he left the table she asked what was the matter with his head! LOL!

The beautiful Snow White that currently graces WDW is probably the fairest in the land. The Cinderella we saw at CRT on Thanksgiving couldn't have been more perfect. The Aurora was borderline, though. I wish Mary Jo would read this thread, as her daughter is the most beautiful Snow White I've ever seen. I asked a CM how many of a character there were, and there aren't many. Sometimes it's down to 1 or 2 people or the beautiful face characters play more than one. The princesses are running from place to place, because there simply aren't many of them. These "ugly" princesses are probably quite pretty out of costume, but I admit I've seen some that make-up should've gotten ahold of.

In her defense, I think she would look much prettier if she was smiling. She's making somewhat of a strange face. It looks like she just swallowed something that tasted really bad.

As for the Princes, I've only met Prince Eric and thought he looked close enough like the role. No Ken doll hair either.

Hi Gale/travelitis--it's Mary Jo!!

How could I possibly resist reading a thread about the female face characters!! LOL!! Thank you so much for the wonderful compliments about my DD, Snow White. I think she is the best SW in WDW--but, of course, I am biased!! My DD also "is" Ariel--and I must say I am sooooooo glad that she is NOT the Ariel pictured in this thread because I'm afraid my feelings would have been very hurt by some of the comments. (Just so you know, some of the Princesses DO read these threads.)

There are some interesting questions here--like how many blondes wear black wigs and vice versa--and what is the most coveted Princess role. I can tell you that the Princesses do wear colored contacts if their eyes aren't the right shade.

AngieBelle is definitely correct. "Face" auditions are grueling and can be demoralizing. The young lady must meet definite specifications--and then must look right in the costume and be able to perform the role (Alice has a British accent, for example).

Being a Disney Princess is a fabulous experience but it is very hard work and not always totally fun. For example, DD told me today that as she was leaving her Meet and Greet area, one mother was irate because her child didn't get an autograph--so the mother called my daughter "a b-tch!!" If only that mother knew how much she hurt my daughter. If only she understood that the characters have rules that they must follow--and going off-set on time is one of them. Fortunately, the magical moments with the "little ones" far outweigh the occasional nastiness.

I consider myself a very lucky mom. I'll never be a Princess but I'm living the experience vicariously through DD. Lucky me!!

I think some people are being a little too harsh on the Ariel picture - she is trying to do a job just like the rest of us. Call me a prude but I do not think it was appropriate to make fun of her. Not nice at all.

Thanks
jaysue

People should be more :sunny:

First of all, while someone does make the choice to go to an audition for something, they don't chose what they are cast in. Half the time, someone who is cast in a role doesn't think they fit the requirements of the role.

Second, looking at that picture, (taken of her in a parade) it is obvious Ariel was singing when you took the picture. Anyone who has been to WDW knows that the characters sing in parades and shows. You can't base what someone looks like when you have a picture of them singing...especially cheesy Disney songs. Besides, I happen to know the particular girl in question is very beautiful and an extremely nice person.
