Next thing I remember is being awakened by Rebecca and her mom. There was a screeching fire alarm in the room and an announcement over loudspeakers to evacuate the building. It was around midnight.

Dee, need to ask, did our inside reporter and team member with all the connections ever discover the reason why the alarm decided to get everyone out for an early-morning yoga/palates class around the lake? Just kind of curious as I usually find out when it happens to me at the hotels I stay at on business trips it was some drunken group of party-goers returning to their room early in the morning that decided to pull an alarm to make sure no one was sleeping. In this case, I wonder if it was some un-supervised young adult who just couldn't resist the temptation of seeing if that alarm really would go off if they pulled the lever.

I shall stop here. I could go on (and on, and on) but this is Dee's trip report. I am just a dingle berry hanging on to the rear.~NM

NM, counting on you for the FULL report, the color analysis so to speak, filling in those things that Dee forgets to mention. I am surprised though you didn't bring your camera out with you. Might have gotten some really interesting "moon" shots.

I am afraid (emphasis on afraid) that we have not seen the last of Ninja Mom's antics and her sidekick Buzzy (who apparently she forgot to rescue during the evacuation) on this report!

My in-laws are really funny about food. They consider Chinese exotic and my FIL (who is 81) just had his first ever burrito this summer. But they'll eat something called kokoretsi. Which is basically lamb intestines stuffed with the rest of the lamb no sane person wants to eat. I gnawed on a piece once. Eww.

OK, I am a REALLY adventurous eater, but no thank you on the kokoretsi. Pass the spanakopita, please!

I am still giggling out loud about your fire alarm incident, but I'll get to that.
Love that you guys had such a good time chatting that you lost track of time! And that the bartender knew how to make a Sunken Treasure.
Well, the fire alarm must have really sucked, but it seems to have lead to some funny encounters with Ninja Mom!

OMG a fire alarm!!!!! I'm sure it's happened before, but this is the first time I've read that. What a way to meet. Quite the impromtu DISmeet right there. Absolutely epic!

It was a great night and a fantastic start to a memorable trip.

Gotta love the Beach Club decor and you've got a gorgeous view too! Walking around the Boardwalk in the evening on our non-park days is one of my favorite things to do. The Florida sunsets are always breathtaking
Glad you got to make to over to Kouzinna before it closes. Never dated a Greek guy but I did work at a Greek restaurant for a bit in college. I can never get those smells out of my head!
A fire drill at Disney? That was unexpected! Glad you got to meet up with NinjaMom and have some laughs!

I do the Beach Club! I have been fortunate with all 4 of the rooms I have stayed in there. Loved them all!

Oh, wow, working at a Greek restaurant. I bet that had its ups and downs.

The timing of the fire drill was unfortunate. Although my little group made the best of it, I felt so bad for all of the parents carrying sleeping children.

So after trying to wake everybody up in my room in spite of the ear shattering alarm.... do I grab my valuables (nope)? I was so intent on waking the boys that I completely forgot about my wallet and my diamond tiara and what do I grab??

WTH!!!

So I kick the fire door open and what do I see but two women snickering and pointing at ME! Of course I recognize Dee right away but Rebecca and her Mom looked way too respectable to be hanging out with the likes of Dee. I tried to signal Rebecca and her Mom to make a break for it so that we could run over to Jelly Rolls and show off our evening ensembles. Dee however insisted on urgently asking if my family needed me during this desperate hour. I however refused to take the hint! (Not the first time BTW...) My husband, upon hearing this, yelled out HECK NO and herded the boys off into the crowd, abandoning me with these three women of the evening.

BTW I just want everybody to Know that JanetMom was a big chicken that night. Even though she obviously heard me yelling her name over and over she faked us out and made up some story about waiting out the fire drill at the front of the resort... like the buses to the theme parks would be running that early! Humph! The buses run an HOUR BEFORE PARK OPENING JanetMom!!!

Anyway back to Goldilocks and the 3 sleepy bears run around Brain Eating Amoeba lake, or whatever it is called: Going on all these Disney trips is getting expensive so I considered showing a little extra leg in and effort to make some Sunken Treasure money. I had shaved my legs in June so you could still see the provocative parts, but alas there were no takers and we decided to walk over to the Boardwalk so that we could moon the clown slide, which is much easier to do when you are not wearing any underwear. (See? It all makes sense!)

We got half way around the lake and became depressed when we realized that there weren't even any Friendship boats that we could hop on and pretend that we were riding on the backwards Titanic. Dee's medication began to wear off and she started to hallucinate that people were going back into the Beach Club, so we headed back to the resort to wait for the all clear.

Eventually, they let us back in the resort, but not before prizes were awarded for "The Best Pajamas", "Most unfortunate Bed Head" and Worst Early, Early Morning Breath". Sadly I finished second in each category and everybody knows that second place means you're the first loser.

I shall stop here. I could go on (and on, and on) but this is Dee's trip report. I am just a dingle berry hanging on to the rear.

The biggest disappointment of our trip was that we evacuated out to the front of the resort. Let me tell you, those front of the resort folks are way more boring than the lake side folks. At the front of the resort we just had to watch our step as there were a surprising number of people who chose to ride out the fire drill by laying down to sleep on the sidewalk (seriously, there were many people just splayed out on the sidewalk sleeping - or maybe they simply got into Dee's pharmaceutical stash!)

Love the picture, can't wait for NM's MORE!

For the record I'll have you know that our family is known for our promptness. There is nothing wrong with getting down to the bus stop at 12:30 am if you have plans to make rope drop the next morning.

How much fun would it have been if you had been out back with us?!?

I can understand getting out to the bus stop early, but with your good bus karma, you didn't actually need to!

I have to admit I was over your fire drill despite the fact that I've been a part of them and hate them.

How funny that you ran into ninja mom and you all ended up with a pajama party. Too bad you couldn't find JANETMOM!!!!

It wasn't bad for us, but there were so many bleary-eyed families out there that night. And a fair amount of complaints from guests the following morning.

I have never been so sad to miss a fire drill. Of course, I was at the YC, so things would have been much more sedate, I'm sure.

I'm surprised we didn't run into you anyway. You and I just seemed to be on the same path. Although at that point, I wouldn't have recognized you.

IF we had had your room number (or Scott's) we would have marched right over and started banging on your door. Children or no children Mommy's got to party 24/7/365 when she is at Disney!

That is probably the worst picture of me I ever posted on a public forum. I was exhausted and I am a blinker and my phone camera is AWFUL!!!

Joining in Dee , I was in Disney the week following but I love to read all about DIS friends. I've met the best people here on the DIS and we were fortunate enough to join up briefly this trip. How sweet of Rebecca! Going back to page 1!!

Jeez JanetMom! It's all in how you feel (and what moisturizer you use!).
Fortunately I have an alibi as I was on lock down, watching Stacy on the resort TV channel, over and over and over again... She has so many must do's that I lose track after the first 549 and I have to start watching it again so I can start counting from the beginning.

Yep!!! Totally forgot about Buzzy but then Buzzy is not what one would consider a "Valuable". Upon second thought I don't recall seeing him in the room. I wonder where he got to??

The day of the fire drill, an alarm went off for about 10 seconds sometime in the late afternoon. I was in the lobby discussing some phone book concerns I had with the greeter and she said that any time you hear that alarm... evacuation is mandatory. Just as we were turning to walk out the alarm stopped.

From what I heard the next day, they were testing the alarms in zones, particularly in one zone. Those alarms were so loud we heard them clearly in the lazy river in Stormalong Bay. My husband speculated that since they were doing construction/demolition up on the 5th floor for the new club level they may have negatively impacted the alarm system somehow.

Yup- the Sunken Treasure is our Turtle Krawl. I hope they never take that off the OKW menu so that you don't have to go to lengths like making a laminated recipe card.

I was pretty wiped out. The timing was exactly wrong. I had just fallen asleep and was in that deep sleep zone. In fact, I was surprised that Rebecca had to wake me since I am such a light sleeper. I mentioned this to Mark and he said

"Did you take something?"

"Oh, yeah"

The fire alarm was a pain, but a little less so for us than some others since we were with friends.

Trattoria al Forno to replace Cat Cora's Kouzzina at Disney World

With opening planned for December, we’re sharing the first details for Trattoria al Forno, the new restaurant for Disney’s BoardWalk.

A “trattoria” is an Italian restaurant serving simple food, and “al forno” is Italian for “food baked in an oven,” and this new spot will showcase Old World techniques, including handcrafted mozzarella made daily, cavatelli (small dumpling-shaped pasta) and a variety of Neopolitan-style pizzas baked in wood-burning ovens. Neopolitan pizzas, by the way, are pizzas in the classic style of Naples, Italy, with simple tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella.

A beautiful Italian flywheel slicer slices paper-thin Italian meats, served with a variety of olives and caponata. Satisfying pastas, velvety seasonal risottos and fresh seafood and vegetables will celebrate the delectable diversity of Italian cuisine with authentic ingredients and recipes from Italy’s various regions.

Italy is just half the size of Texas but has wonderfully diverse cuisine, and Trattoria al Forno will showcase dishes from Italy’s various regions – for instance, braised beef Bolognese with house-made cavatelli from Bologna, semolina tagliatelli carbonara from Latium (more specifically Rome), pork chop alla Milanese named after the city of Milano. And you’ll find classic Italian favorites: chicken breast alla Parmagiana with tagliatelle pasta; shrimp with garlic, capers and anchovy butter with polenta; whole roasted fish with roasted vegetables; baked lasagna; grilled steak; slow-cooked lamb shank with polenta; and eggplant rollatini.

A seasonal risotto will always be on the menu, and vegetarians will appreciate the ruffled campanelle pasta with green beans, roasted potatoes and Genovese pesto.

Add a classic Italian dessert with an after-dinner cappuccino for a perfect ending. Look for tiramisù, lemon panna cotta with almond crunch and berries, gelatos, and the signature bomboloni (Italian donut holes) with dark chocolate and vanilla gelato.

Our Greek fest also has a dessert called kataifi (I think that's the spelling). Shredded filo, soaked in a honey syrup, and covered with custard, whipped cream, and chopped walnuts. It is beyond fabulous.

Mention of Stacy already makes me nostalgic. I think it's the only thing we watch while we're in Disney, even though there is never a single thing we don't know about. It has become such a habit, it didn't occur to us my mom wouldn't be on board. Love that woman, but she was sort of crotchety about the Must Dos.

I agree with the disappointment about a new Italian restaurant. I love Italian food. But really? They couldn't come up with anything else? Of course, if my plan comes together to return to WDW next fall, I'll be eating at the Flying Fish again.

Thanks for that info on the Memory Maker. I wonder if I will be able to make that work for our class trip in June. We will have around 150 people, in several groups. I plan on purchasing a MM and adding photos from each of the groups, but I figured our walking group would be the only one that would be able to get the ride photos. I forgot about the automatic link of photos to the MB now.
