What Frugal Action Did You Take Today!?

Today I baked up a bag of potatoes that needed to be cooked. I used a few of them for our dinner, chili topped baked taters, and the rest I cooled down, peeled, and cut up for hasbrowns. I froze them into serving size bags and have enough for three meals.

Cancelled Sirius radio today. So far this week have dropped $50 from the monthly budget

I poured the leftover coffee from yesterday morning's pot into a travel mug with some flavored creamer and a good chug of milk. It made a great iced coffee to take with me while I ran errands this morning, and I didn't use my Starbucks gift card (saving that for a date with DH). I also scored a bunch of Crayola Color Wonder packs with a pad of paper and those special markers on clearance at Walmart for $1 each. They will make great gifts for our overseas family members' kids this summer when we visit, and I came in WAY under budget for that. I was planning to spend $5 for each kid, but only spent $5 total!

Stopped by the children's consignment store and got new grandson 4 outfits for under $10 (they were half off) and then sent email to Daytona Speedway regarding my son's ticket to July race. I purchased it full price on 3/1 and then yesterday they have children 12-17 half off. So I got email they credited by card for difference, I saved $64 just on his ticket!!

I have been tryint really hard to feed my diet coke habit with the 24 oz bottles that you buy in a 6 pack rather than buying 20 oz bottles in the hospital's cafeteria ( I am a RN). 6 pack = 3.50, single bottles in the cafeteria = 1.18 each.... I consider that a good job at saving a touch! :thumbsup2

My MIL came over and we went for a walk with the boys and then we went back to my place and I made sandwiches. :cool1:

On my way home from work today, I really wanted to stop and get carry-out Chinese food. But then I thought about how full my pantry and freezer are, so I came home and made dinner here. :)

I was in the grocery store today and between my club card and coupons saved 51% according to my receipt. My New Year's resolution was to not just clip coupons but really use them and i have been really working on it. One guy in the store asked me today if I was an extreme couponer and another told me he loved my coupon organizer. :thumbsup2

Packed drinks in a cooler for the trip to the in-laws yesterday. The BIG success was that DH did this all on his own.

Had breakfast at McDonalds a few hours into the trip, but we were still drinking our own coffee. Bought KFC chicken for everybody for supper but provided our own side dishes.

Used two $5 off coupons at Meijers, plus a $5 off purchase of items, saving a total of $15, things I normally would bought anyway.

Inspired by all of your savings, tonight we had frozen pizza instead of picking one up at our local pizza place. Even after adding some fresh toppings and a sprinkle of extra cheese, we still saved $10. Best part, everyone was happy.

I went back to Aldi's yesterday, I hadn't gone in a long time and saved a lot.

We needed to touch up paint in one bedroom and we found a tester sample to use, they would match it to the swatch we brought in so it cost around $2.00 instead of having to buy a quart.

Wow, glad I discovered this board! I am a SAHM who homeschools her 2 boys. We buy AP to Disney and like to go as much as we can. This however, requires much budgeting in all other areas of our life! I love saving money! lol!:cool1:Yesterday , I stopped by a new bakery discount store that had just opened. They had all bread products for 50 cents each. I got 19 different packages of Natures Own and Cobblestone Mill loaves of bread and bagels, and english muffins. Plus they had the chocolate honey buns and reg honey buns on sale for 3/$1. So, I also got 18 of them. Total bill with tax came to $16.32. Enough for our family for a month!

Needed Swiffer solution. Took a spray bottle I already had and did a vinegar water mix. Smelled a little 'salady' for a few minutes, but that went away fast and the tile looks good and is clean!!

Mondays and Fridays are crazy for us. DS has Karate after school so we don't get home until around 6. Yesterday morning before I left for school, I put a chicken in the crock pot (breast down, just like I learned here on the DIS), seasoned it with garlic pepper, thyme and rosemary. So we came home to delicious chicken, I just made some mashed potatoes and a veg to go with for dinner, instead of going out to eat! And - it was better for us and tasted better!

ETA: I am used the bones from the back, neck and some of the leftovers that I saved the meat from in the crockpot over night to make stock.

This may be normal to some of you, but it surprised me...

I bought a whole chicken at my local supermarket (.79/lb.) and the butcher cut it up for me right there! I figured I may have overpaid a little on the wings, etc., but I think I got a steal on the boneless chicken (easy to de-skin). Plus, he put the bones in a separate bag for me so those were "free". He charged me .79/lb. for pretty much just meat.

Then, I came home and made Coq Au Vin with the big pieces and then put the thighs (still had some bones) and stuff aside so I could make Chicken soup today.

Got 2 full meals of chicken for less than $3. :goodvibes

Plus, I get to use up all my left over vegetables from yesterday and the ones in the fridge that are nearing the end of their life expectancy if you know what I mean. ;)

Mmm...maybe I'll go make some fresh bread to go with my soup!

Hubby's getting back surgery next week and will be out of work for 4-6 weeks. In preparation:
*Called Bright House and asked if they were having any specials. They weren't, but realized we were on a turbo version of their Internet, so dropped that to save $15/month.
*Called surgeon, hospital and anesthesiologist to confirm that they're all in-network. Not sure who else will be involved, but insurance company advised me to just keep pushing the issue. Can't hurt!

Okay, so decided instead of making bread, I'm going to make my own saltines! We NEVER use the box of saltines before they go bad, so even though they are cheap, we wind up throwing tons of crackers away.

So, I broke down what the cost would be of 1 small batch of saltines!

1 c. flour (Roughly .20)
1/2 tsp. salt (can't calculate - what .01?)
1/3 c. milk (roughly about .05)
1 tbsp. butter (.15)
1/4 tsp. baking soda (can't calc. this either - it must be .001 LOL)

So, I'm thinking the entire batch is less than .50, which is probably equal to about 1 sleeve of crackers. On sale, you can get saltines cheap, but doesn't matter how cheap they are if you throw them away. ;)

My mom had cataract surgery today so I instead of buying expensive snacks and drinks from the hospital cafe, I brought my own. Saved a ton of money.
