What Frugal Action Did You Take Today!?

DH was repairing a leak in the sink and at 5pm I had to go to the hardware store to pick up additional supplies. I resisted the urge to pick up take out and we survived just fine.

I stayed home!! I was going to go and buy cold medicine, but instead looked through the medicine cupboard and found benadryl, leftover from a previous bug. Still good, so used that instead.

Now I am trying to stay awake for a bit, so I don't fall asleep and wake up at 3 am bright eyed and bushy tailed.;)

I had a cold last week and the best meds for me was a nice HOT shower, a big cup of hot tea and some soup. Followed by a nice nap.

I hope you feel better soon!

We had some milk that was about to expire and we would not drink it in time. So I made up a huge batch of chocolate and vanilla pudding to have over the weekend for desert and snacking.

just a hint for next time....you can freeze milk before it expires. It is then fine to use later to cook with - I use my "milk ice cubes" in mac and cheese and soup etc.

Thanks for the tip. I never thought to freeze it in ice cube trays, will have to do that next time. Although the pudding tasted very good.

This was yesterday but thought I'd share. I worked yesterday and that was overtime. I also had a coupon for a local restaurant for a free pizza and called my order in on the way home. I got a large pizza 1/2 pepperoni for $2.75- $1.75 for the topping/tax and $1 tip since it is a full service restaurant that I picked it up from. $2.75 was a great deal and my family was pleasantly surprised when I walked in the door with dinner!

Thank you! My colds tend to become bronchitis or pneumonia, so it was time to 'dry out a bit'.

Frugal, is being too sick to go to the store, so you use toilet paper for Kleenex. lol.

This happened all weekend as I had to work 3x12 hr night shifts Fri, Sat, and Sun.

Instead of buying coffee/tea, I brought my own from home. I brown bagged my lunches/snacks. I took public transportation to work (since gas is so expensive right now). I didn't bring any money, bank cards, or credit cards to work as I knew I would end up using those.

When I got home this morning, I put stuff into the crock pot for supper tonight. When I woke up this afternoon, instead of going shopping, I went for a run, then to the library to get some movies and books.

I planned my meals for the next 3 days around the ingredients I have in my house, and won't need to go grocery shopping until the weekend.

I have to put gas in the car, but will only put in $20, which, if I continue to take public transport, will last me 3 weeks. And this should be the only money I spend until the weekend.

I'm new to this watching my budget/using coupons etc. My DD3 outgrew her shoes so we desperately needed to find some "new" ones. I went to the local consignment store and found a pair--best of all it was 30% of the consignment price! I paid $2.10 for a decent pair of shoes she's going to out grow sooner than later! SCORE! :thumbsup2:cheer2:

I'm in the process of getting ready for my son's 6th birthday party. Last week I bought most of his party goods. But today I went to another store since I was near it and found the items so much cheaper. I bought them there and will take back the original store's items. Saved $13.

just called Direct Tv to cancel and I "let" them persuade me to stay after they knocked $20 off my bill and gave me a $80 credit. I love Directv and didn't want to leave just yet.

I have some apples that are starting to go bad so I peeled them up and popped them into the crock pot to make some homemade apple sauce. That way I save the money on the apples and save money by not having to buy applesauce this week.

Called phone company and got $10 a month off my bill by removing some services we don't use at all.

I cleaned out my pantry and found a small bag of insant rice and old raisins so I made a rice pudding. Trying to stretch a steak to feed 4 people, I cut into strips, browned it, put it in a casserole with onions, mixed veg, gravy made from rinsed out botttles of barbeque sauce and soy sauce (remember I was cleaning out the pantry) and leftover mashed potatoes. Hope it tastes good.

Went grocery shopping today and strictly stuck to my list. Came in $100 UNDER budget :thumbsup2 Saved $8 using coupons. Once I got home I started looking through my menus, I realized I have enough for 16 dinners :) Many of which will provide lunch leftovers for myself and DH. It was a good grocery shopping day :cool1:

Mine is more of a buget buter we just have basic cable and the bill came today and went up a few dollars we now pay$71and some change

Instead of buying my iced tea at work for $2, I'm bring it from home this week - money saved $10 by weeks end. Also on day two of bringing lunch from home this week - $5 x 5 days - $25 saved this week. Total $35 by weeks end!!:cool1:

We're also trying to eat from our pantry since we're leaving soon for a trip. Before I left for work I put the following in a crockpot: 32 oz. carton low-sodium chicken broth, 12 Perdue turkey meatballs cut in quarters, 2 cans diced potatoes and one can Rotel-type tomatoes. A half an hour before dinner DH will add a half bag of frozen peas and the last 1/4 cup of pastina in the box. I'll take out a cup of the stew for my lunch at work tomorrow.

well, i don't know how frugal it is, but DH's employer was told by corporate they had to produce 10 million pounds of metal in march, and on a really good month, they usually only produce between 6 and 7 million pounds, so everyone has been working around the clock last week and this week, including my DH.
now, DH was scheduled for vacation next week, but we just found out that DD has a band trip in may, so we called HR at DH's job and managed to get him scheduled for vacation the week of the band trip, instead of next week.
this is good in two ways, and bad in one: good way #1 - DH will get a lot of hours next week, which means mucho money. good way #2 - there are several people on vacation next week, because it's spring break here, so DH not taking the time off will actually help HR keep production on-track. bad way #1 - DH may end up working a whole month without an off day. it stinks, but he has to take the overtime when he can get it, especially since i can't find a job. :(

Stopped at a consignment shop on the way home and got a nice jacket for DS17 for upcoming trip to TN Mountains for only $12! Heavy jackets in South Florida are a hard sell LOL
