What foods in Disneyland and California Adventure Park do YOU avoid;did it make u ill

. . . have any of you fallen ill over eating at any place in the parks?

We had experienced over 15 successful visits to Disneyland, so, we never thought we would ever get food poisoning; however, it finally happened, last June.

We have always been Ariel's Grotto fans, so, we reserved our usual "beginning of our Disneyland trip" dinner at Ariel's. My husband and I do not usually eat the "same thing" as each other, so, up to that point in the day, we had not eaten the same foods. When we went to Ariel's, we both ordered the Tri-Tip meal (w/veggies and garlic mashed). It tasted fine at the time, and we enjoyed the meal; however, that evening, at approximately 3:00 am, we were both up, basically living in the toilet room for about two hours :sad2:; luckily, we were in a one BR villa, so, we had two toilet rooms.

My husband felt mostly better by that evening; but, it took me until the third day following the meal to really feel up to enjoying the parks and leaving the villa (and the toilet....). It is a very disappointing feeling to be at the parks and not be able to enjoy them. :confused3

As I mentioned, the Tri-Tip meal was the only thing that we both ate that day; so, it had to be something from that meal.

FYI: I did call Ariel's and spoke with a manager the next morning, but she did not seem to care much and she did not seem to be worried about their food; I was surprised. I followed up with general guest services in DCA.

It was very frustrating and, especially, unpleasant; we do not plan to return to Ariel's. I do not want to take the chance of that happening again, at least from a place I have already been "warned" about by personal experience. I'm very sad about that; I have always loved Ariel's.

BTW: We had Ariel's reserved later in the week for the WOC Dining Package; needless to say, we canceled the reservation.

I didn't think I'd ever share that story, especially here on the boards; however, when the question was asked, I thought I'd share.

Actually, over in Critter Country there is this one place that serve sandwiches... I ordered a turkey sandwich and didn't realise that they only served it with Rye bread, and I about puked when I tasted it. The whole thing would have been fine had it not been for that disgusting bread. I ended up feeding the whole thing to the ducks from Rivers of America.

Do you dislike rye in general or was this rye that wasnt good?

Another vote for avoiding Pizza Port... it didn't look like a very clean place to begin with but then I made the most ridiculous mistake of choosing a chicken salad... I was the only one in our group that ate it and the only one that got sick.

It was on our last day and we had to go back to the hotel early I was so ill and then I literally couldn't move for 4-5 days from the food poisoning. My husband had to take a day off work to watch the kids when we got home I was so sick.

For what it's worth we let Disney know on a feedback form that we got and they told us we could file a claim - I guess because my husband missed work - they were actually really helpful. We said no thanks - but I know I will never eat a salad or any other dressing, cream item at a theme park again.

They are just not good, so I guess it is taste. It has been nearly 13 years since I have eatten there but at the time they looked liked those pre-made frozen batties you can get at the grocery store.

From what I know, the burgers in the park are pretty much the same as all other burgers in the park now. Many bemoan this fact, but it might help you to stop avoiding this one place, since what you get there is what you'd get elsewhere.

The coffee in the parks is revolting, disgusting, vile, and bad. As a card carrying Washingtonian, I know of what I speak!!!

As a matter of principle, I do not eat anything served out of a bread bowl. This dovetails nicely with avoidance of swimming things and French Market.

I agree with you on the coffee thing! It's just as bad at WDW...I sent hubby to the store to buy a bag of Peets so I didn't have to deal with it!

If you don't mind sourdough and it's just the concept that bugs you, you can have the put the soup/salad into a normal container and the bread into a bag, and you can eat the bread at your convenience. We find the bread to taste so much better when it's not squishy with soup...

Why didn't you try to return it?

I felt a little queasy at having wasted the money on the Dole whip everyone raved about...

Agreed. I thought it tasted like what I imagine pineapple-flavored plastic would taste like. And then both hubby and son had reactions to it, causing me to look up the ingredients, and that's how we discovered that they can't have "corn syrup solids". Nasty nasty ingredients...

Of the things I have eaten, the only thing I would never get again is...the beignets. :rolleyes1 I don't know if we got a bad batch or just didn't know what to expect but neither of us liked them at all. They were heavy, greasy, and made me sick. Just awful all around.

Where did you get them?

I liked the ones I had from Cafe Orleans, but the ones from DTD (the place I thought would be more like New Orleans beignets) were *disgusting*. And I thought the "fritters" at royal street veranda would be beignets, but they aren't...once you can appreciate them for what they are, they are tasty (at least I thought so), but if you're expecting beignets, bleah.

i have never gotten sick from park food at DCA, the burgers at TPG are awesome IMO... i have never ever had a bad meal at DCA! i love all the food!!

but the bread bowl with the gumbo from royal street veranda was just gross to me...

We avoid burgers in general, I admitt mainly because of this experience. Plus there are so many other places to enjoy. Why get a burger when I can get yummy chilli or taco salad. ;)

I will not eat the pizza at Pizza Port or Naples in DTD! DISGUSTING!!!

I love the three cheese monte cristo at CO but cannot eat the meat one! YUCK! For some reason it is WAAAAAAAY greasier than the cheese one!

I do not care ofr the burgers anywhere in the park/s either!

Lots of sensitive stomachs here. BB is my favorite place to eat in the park. To the best of my memory I've never had a bad experience at DL with any of the food.

I'll tell you, years of eating in Mex and at our local fair grounds has given me a tough immune system when it comes to illnesses associated with bad food.

Very interesting post all.

Pizza Port - Frozen pizza tastes better (and I don't exactly love frozen pizza) and the prices are ridiculous.

Rancho Del Zocalo - Have heard positive things about this place on the Dis during the last year, but we still can't forget the blah food (it was cold, and way too salty) we had there enough to venture going again. Last time we were there was in 2002.

I'm not a huge fan of cheeseburgers, but we had cheeseburgers at Hungry Bear last Summer and I really LOVED it. Not sure if I was just super hungry making it so that anything would have tasted good (lol), but I really enjoyed that cheeseburger. :)

We don't get too adventurous with food while in the parks (sensitive tummies and no desire to waste Disneyland time in the bathroom!). We also only eat one meal per day in the parks because any more than that gives us "Disney Tummy". So, we carry in a lot of fresh and dried fruits, eat yogurt for breakfast while waiting in line, and eat our 3rd meal outside the parks.

That was thoughtful of you to share. It actually does make me very very less likely to go there. I know others have had such great experiences there, so it's surprising. Very hard to deal with, I feel for you! Glad you're better now!

We have never got sick there and we love Hungry Bear and taste pilots. I expect the prices to be high, just like they are at every theme park , fair and airport. We even like the 3 cheese monte I can eat a whole one but my son can!

We got our beignets at the Mint Julep bar, i believe. The little take out window type place?

Pizza port pizza is by far the worst pizza I've had anywhere. Also, the mushroom vegetarian dish at Blue Bayou is gross (IMO)

Not a food, but a drink I am not a huge fan of Mint Julep in New Orleans Square

I don't think I've been sick from any food I've had at the Parks. On our last trip however, my dh got sick from the seafood pasta at The wine country Tratoria. He didn't feel the affects of it till we got back to our room and he was up most of the night, but I still dragged him around all day the next day :rotfl2:

Why didn't you try to return it?

I wasn't aware you could. Will they really give your money back?

Why do they only seem to have Rye bread? That's all it said on the menu (saw it after the fact) and I was shocked they didn't have some other choices. That's really strange.

I also got very sick at Ariel's. I believe I ate pasta that night. It was several years back but I have never returned. I think we have been to Disneyland about 20 times the past 7 yrs and this was the only bad experience we had with food.

Wow, maybe I should see if I can set up an IV stand on Main Street. Between the heat and botulism I bet it would be lying room only.:lmao:

I wonder if anyone from Disney prowls these boards? If they do it's obvious they need to do something about Pizza Port. Their pizza seems to get a big thumbs down.
