What foods in Disneyland and California Adventure Park do YOU avoid;did it make u ill

I'm not saying that people haven't gotten food poisoning..I'm sure they have, but it's not always what causes these things..even if people only ate the same thing and only they got sick, it could be other things..a bug, stress, something picked up on the plane,l bathroom, whatever. I'm sure Disney is very much on top of these things. I was a restaurant manager at a large buffet in Vegas..we had people fequently tell us they had food poisoning, but not once did it result in a true food poisoning outbreak..it was standard to send them to security to make a report. These things were monitored..no one wants their food location to be causing people distress. The thing is, maybe more so in Vegas than other places, but still...there are many contributing factors to what can set a stomach off. If I had someone swear they got food poisoning from the crab legs and none of the 1,000 other people who ate those same crab legs had a problem, then it was something else. True food poisoning will have a wide swath of people affected from the same batch. I would report every suspected instance..that way if there is truly a problem they can trace it down, find the problem and correct the issue. A company like Disney is not going to be cavalier about food safety.

Very well said. Food poisoning happens, but I don't believe it happens anywhere near as often as people claim.

Often times people associate the last item they ate before they became ill with the sickness itself from that point on. Happens to all of us, but it doesn't mean the food was bad.

It seems to me that QC in the food department at DL would be set to a very high standard. My .02

I will not eat the pizza at Pizza Port or Naples in DTD! DISGUSTING!!!

I do not care ofr the burgers anywhere in the park/s either!

never had a problem with Taste pilots at all,, and never had a problem with naples pizza either, i love the pizza.. it's so gourmet and i love it! love the gluetin free stuff too! :thumbsup2

Wow, maybe I should see if I can set up an IV stand on Main Street. Between the heat and botulism I bet it would be lying room only.:lmao:

I wonder if anyone from Disney prowls these boards? If they do it's obvious they need to do something about Pizza Port. Their pizza seems to get a big thumbs down.

i would not let it scare you.

nunzia~ i agree!! i have never gotten sick from the same places that each poster here has talked about. it's true nunzia, stress can bring on alot of different factors! just like rusty said, if you 'just' happen to get sick that night and earlier in the day you had a bread bowl from cafe orleans, well maybe it's not the bread and soup--maybe it's a bug or stress that is making you sick.IF disney found a problem with the fruit bowls they sell at the stand in adventure land , you bet your money that it be fixed right away!

WARNING: GROSS POST, MAY TURN YOUR STOMACHE!

Here's my scoop on things; the reason why sometimes there aren't huge outbreaks from actual food poisoning in mass quantities in DL is that yes, they are very careful with fresh, quality ingredients, and are careful to cook them thoroughly. Kudos to them for that!! :goodvibes

My thought on this apparent food poisoning for some people some of the time, is that some staff member who made their food or served their food maybe didn't take the time or effort to wash their hands properly after a bathroom break - or - they touched the bathroom door handle with their bare hands on the way out; let's say the person ahead of them didn't er, wipe too well and got fecal matter and/or bacteria on their hands unknowingly and then touched the door handle on their way out, rushing out quickly and either not washing hands, or not washing thoroughly. Staff member carries fecal bacteria onto their hands, touches that one fry that fell on the side, and BOOM - massive case of e.coli, etc. Maybe more illness for more people, but not enough to report an outbreak. So for the most part, I feel that cases of apparent food poisoning anywhere are more apt to the cook or server missing out on proper sanitation of hands by thoroughly washing them.

Not to say true food poisoning doesn't happen - it can, and does. It can happen anywhere. And yes, for some who fell ill, it could be the flu, and of course the last thing they ate can sometimes be so gross coming back up that it makes you think the food was bad. For others who ate the same things at the same places, it does appear it could be food poisoning.

After posting this thread and getting a lot of feedback, it really does show that Disney is an incredible corporation that works hard to deliver clean, safe food, and they do a great job overall. A person can get sick themselves by touching a bathroom door handle (or whatever, containing fecal matter unknown to them) and putting their fingers in their mouth, etc. It would be nice to live in a bacteria free world.

I have been to Disneyland numerous times and I have yet to see another parent besides myself ( and even sometimes I forget)that makes the whole fam go wash their hands before eating when sitting down for a meal or grabbing a quick bite.. do you know how many sick people visit disneyland and put their germs all over the rails and rides etc.... i'm just saying..

I 2nd that at least one of us always gets something we call it PTPI = post theme park illness. Contributing factors are unusual food, coughing sneezing crowds and the #1 offender is railings touch them at your peril, we carry & use hand sanitizer regularly and we still always manage to bring something home.

I have a non-Disney experience that's similar to some that I've read here. We visited DH's grandma in Denver and did some touristy things there. I grabbed the girls leftover chicken nuggets out of the fridge before we left for the airport. I let the girls eat them a couple hours later on the plane. Then, on our drive home from Phoenix, one girl begins vomiting. I pulled off to the nearest gas station, cleaned her up while DH cleaned up her car seat. We start off again and her little sister starts vomiting. This repeated the rest of the drive home and most of the night. I was thinking it was the nuggets...until DH and I got it! It was just a bad stomach bug that they both must've caught at the same time. Sometimes things just happen simultaneously without having anything to do with food.

That is a good valid point starshine! :goodvibes

I actually AM one of those Moms who make the whole family go wash their hands before meals (and if they happen to touch railings, etc. before their food comes - uncommon because they've grown up being asked to keep their hands clean until they eat - then we use Purell)...plus we use Purell after each ride, get their hands super clean after restroom visits, gargle with saltwater each night during vacation, shower and get into clean jammies each night in the hotel before getting into clean beds, etc., and we STILL manage to catch something on many of our Disney trips. I would think the plane rides would be very suspect if the "food poisoning" occurred on the same day as a flight...the sickest I ever got was from a 1 hour flight...

In more than 100 visits into the DLR parks, I don't think any member of my family has ever gotten sick from the food. I'm sure it happens, but like a PP mentioned, the more likely culprit would be somebody's unwashed hands - whether the people preparing the food, or the person eating the food.

ok . im sorry but this food talk, it just makes me hungry.. im going to get some toast and cream cheese!!

have a good night everyone!!! have a magical day tomorrow! :)

I have a super sensitive stomach, almost all foods make me sick but I have yet to get sick at Disneyland from food :)

I agree with you on the coffee thing! It's just as bad at WDW...I sent hubby to the store to buy a bag of Peets so I didn't have to deal with it!

If you don't mind sourdough and i

Well to be fair, WDW Parks have specialty places you can go. For example, the coffee in Morocco at Epcot is awesome. ( or at least it used to be, I hope they didn't homogenize that too... )

Ok, here's my 2 cents...

As another poster said, true cases of widespread food poisening are very uncommen. If Disney had any sort of issue with widespread food poisening, I trust they would handle it appropriately, don't you?

What most likely happens is that a steak may not be fully cooked or the nuggets may have not been kept at the right tempurature prior to cooking or the food handler didn't wash their hands after using the bathroom, etc. All cases of individual food poisening and really there's not a whole lot that can be done about it except re-inforcing the proper procedures.

It is also up to each guest to take responsiblity when they can. For my family, this mean disinfecting the table and chairs we sit at to eat...yes, that's me with the mini can of Lysol! We also wash or use hand sanitizer before eating and don't forget all those rules on proper food care. If you have leftovers and decide to take them with you...for goodness sakes, don't carry it around in your purse all day only to feed it to your child as a midnight snack!;)

We have never experienced a case of food poisening but I'm sure it does happen. With the amount of food being served at Disney, it's inevitable. Our main issue comes from the fact that we eat natural and organic foods and Disney does not serve these kinds of foods. Our stomachs are just not used to all the chemicals and crap found in the food at Disney, so we must take our Pepto faithfully while visiting the parks.:rolleyes1

Other then that...we do all we can as a family to help reduce our risk of getting sick and hope that the Disney castmember who handles our food has properly washed their hands and hasn't been picking their nose.:rotfl:

My DH flatly refuses to eat here again after getting sick twice after eating here.
My guess is that is was the fruit since she had more than anyone else.
Too bad, it is usually only place with short line.
:hippie:

The Village Huas, so icky. Bad service, and bad food. I haven't been since the re-furb, I'm waiting for reviews.

I do like the Hungry Bear. I had a feeling that they were the same as over at Tommorowland Terrace, but for some reason, the burgers seem to taste better at Hungry Bear.

I felt ill when they handed me the bill at Ariel's!

What is it with the French Market? The lsat time we went to DL, we grabbed dinner there to eat while waiting for Fastasmic!
DH had the salmon, and he was feeling sick before the show was over. I had the chowder (like I have several times) and was fine.
