What do you think?
I just laid out $7500.00 for an add-on at WVL.
I just found out that I do not get a tote, pin, frame, nothing...(Zippity do da!) for an add-on.
I'm a State Farm Agent, and I alway's take care of my NEW clients and my OLD faithfull clients w/ a little gift (pen, road atlas, golf balls, etc) for their business. Just a little thank-you for their business.
I'm sorry to find that DVC just sends me a letter w/ a bill due for my additional dues.
What do you think? Should DVC send a little token item, to just say THANKS for your add-on!
It was fun when we recieved our tote for our initial purchase. We felt like we now belong to the DVC family.
I hope that you understand where I'm coming from? I hope that people do not take this as a slam at DVC. I love DVC or I wouldn't have done an add-on.

It may depend on the guide. We have done add-ons while we were at the BW. Our guide always bought our entire party lunch on the BW. If you did your add-on over the phone, I would think that you should have received some type of token. That seems to be one of the problems with-in Disney, inconsistency. I KNOW if someone just spent that amount of money I would be sure to send them something to show my appreciation.

Not that I'm defending them but here's a couple of thoughts.

Unlike insurance, DVC is selling a limited asset, i.e. if they don't sell it to you, they'll sell it to someone else, or at least that's what they figure. This gives them little incentive to "reward" a purchaser. If you and State Farm don't keep your customers happy, they'll bolt to the competition. That's not likely the case with DVC.

Like I said, I'm not defending them, just looking at the rationale from the business perspective.

Byt the way, I've insured 2 cars, a house, and an umbrella liability with MY State Farm agent for 10+ years and I think at Christmas I get return address labels !;)

Hi, Thanks for the response!
I purchased my add-on at Disney and paid for it the same day!
I did not finance it. I used my credit card, and financed it myself when I got back home.
I sure would of liked lunch!
Thanks!:p

That's too bad... You should get more!! We have cool stuff...Phone cards, golf balls, travel mugs, etc.
Maybe the competition is less in your area? I can't say anymore, or I;ll get my foot in my mouth!!
Thanks..... :smooth:

I look at it this way...it means more to me when its unexpected.......I know its a bummer after all we spend on DVC, but just think you bought in for the vacations. :) Just trying to put a positive spin on it! :)

cRobin - You got address labels from State Farm - who's your agent.

I;ve had the same agent for 12 years, have 2 cars, homeowners, and an umbrella and get zip.

Now for DVC, it would still be nice to get something - I mean, add-ons are really VERY little work for the sales agents, and 150 pt add on and a new 150 purchase net Disney the same amount of $$$.

Oh, well.

I'm sure we all agree that we are getting our money's worth buying DVC. I sure wouldn't be taking the same Disney vacations if I had to pay with cash each time. Now they can't build on-site DVC's fast enough to fill the demand.

I think that Disney has always been a company that has gone "above and beyond". But they are now cutting back like so many others. I'm not faulting Disney Corp., but it's too bad if they have to lower their standards to keep the shareholders happy.

And who's DVC's competition? We looked into Marriott just for a comparison before buying into DVC but it didn't even come in a distant second. We wanted to stay at Disney, be a part of Disney. Until sales drop off (hey, you never know), I don't expect many perks for buying - especially an add-on. I think they know when they have us hooked.

Disney still offers quality but I don't think they don't have any incentive to go any further.

Don't feel too bad... We closed at the end of April and I did an add on only weeks after that. I know have 270 pts (yeah!!). I bought site unseen, but made a visit to my guide and to see the property a few weeks later. He gave me nothing upon my visit to say thank-you except for a bag of cotton candy. I know that my Guide owes me nothing... but like you said.. it would have been nice. I just spent a lot of money (for me at least.) I have yet to receive the larger tote, permanent member card or the sought after VWL pin..... I am going to give MS a call very soon . At least you have the nice tote bag! :D

When we first looked at DVC the showings were at OKW. We paid cash to stay for a few nights and being curious we took the tour. We were all ready to sign, they had offered to give us back all of our money spent on our stay (exchanging for points of course) but at the last minute I felt hurried as they were closing for the day and not feeling positive on the deal (this was after all very greek to us) I said we would sleep on it. On our way out our guide offered us an ice cream at their little booth set up. We declined of course since we knew these people were closing up. We laughed about it then and still do because it looked like such a silly lure for a min. $9000+ investment that they wanted us to "enjoy an ice cream while we signed the papers". Now we laugh and tease that we missed our "free" ice cream since we bought at BWV basically sight unseen 2 years after viewing OKW. Everytime we pass by the BWV open house my DH will still say " so little girl, would you like to stop by and have some ice cream so they can talk you into some more points?" Surprisingly our 2 add-ons have been from home too. All in fun of course, no stones please.

Hmmm come to think of it, no one I have ever done business has ever sent me anything except once-from our mortgage lender who sent us a painted wooden replica of our home. Very nice I might add. So I guess a tote bag, a VWL pin, another nice tote bag, and a license plate from DVC has anyone beat that I have ever done business with. I guess when we hear of free lunches and other things we all get a little envious and feel left out. I'm sure it's not intentional.

I wonder if the guides realize how much those little things mean to the buyers. I mean that beach tote probably costs Disney about $5.00, the pins even less. When we went for our tour,in March, we were given a free lunch at Spoodles. It made an excellent impression on my DH. I sorta conned him into taking a look. All in all I'm very happy with everything I've received from Disney and our Guide. But, then, we received just about everything they give out.

When we bought add-on points, our guide was gone (married & moved away), & we had a guide I had only "met" through phone conversations. Although I wasn't expecting a material gift, it would have been nice if he had called or written a thank you. This guy (I don't even remember his name), I'm sure, made money off the sale of our add-ons, but never even said thank you. My mother taught me better than that!
