What do you do with people that cut in line to meet up with group?

Tragedy of the commons doesn't apply because clearly it has not and will not become a problem, so clearly this is NOT something that is being exploited.

You fail to understand the theory. The whole point is that it's not a problem for one person or a few people to do it, but is a problem for everybody to do it. Therefore, it's fundamentally unfair (and rude) for you to do it because everybody can't. That's why the theory refers to such people as a "freeloaders."

Not to mention the fact that to use the phrase in such a petty and ultimately insignificant situation diminishes it in cases where it actually applies. Much as referring to Hitler in an argument diminishes the evil the man actually committed.

It's a theory of consumption and resource management. It applies whether or not you think the resource is insignificant. That's like saying 2+2 doesn't equal 4 because "those numbers are too small for a concept as important as math!"

...and I might add that while you may find courtesy and respect to the rights of others in everyday transactions such as waiting in line to be "petty" and "insignificant," many don't, which is why they get so riled up over this issue. They take those concepts very seriously.

Not jealousy -- basic fairness. Yes, I'm waiting in line, patiently, like an adult. I display no over-sized sense of self-importance, nor do I denigrate the value of those around me. Cutting in line in front of other people does both. And, frankly, it doesn't bother me to tell anyone that yes, I DO mind if they try and cut in front of me.

I'm waiting. You can wait, too. Only in cases of bioemergencies when someone has to leave the line will I willingly and gladly relinquish my position in line (because everyone knows you just can't predict those, no matter how many precautions you take).

BTW, the way to solve the issue at CS registers is to point out the way the system works to those who stubbornly line up on the right side. Show them that they can use both sides, and then wait your turn when they do.

Eh, I don't care enough to pay attention or question why 1-2 people need to rejoin their group. It could be a bioemergency, could be that they suddenly realized they forgot something valuable or otherwise important in the stroller, could be that they are just a-holes. If they are courteous in asking to rejoin their group, I smile at them and step aside and pretty much forget they exist.

Makes for an awesome vacation.

Sorry, but I do understand the theory, quite well, actually, I simply fail to believe that this situation warrants its use. Obviously you disagree, so we will have to agree to disagree.

Clearly I can see that others take this issue very seriously. However, I am forced to wonder if it's the "rights of others" they are concerned about or if they are simply hot, tired and irritable about any perceived inconvenience and not anything so grand as a general feeling of protectiveness for all mankind. I'd be curious if everyone who is so concerned about the rights of others as it relates to lines in an amusement park are equally involved in solving the massive issues of poverty, discrimination, hunger, homelessness, human trafficking, etc.. Frankly, I'll save my outrage for actual tragedies.

They prolly have a higher incidence of heart attacks, too.

I think what most of us that disagree with you are really saying is - pick your battles. Yes, in some (not all) cases it is rude. Do you know with certainty which circumstances are which, and even if you do, is it worth it to get riled up? Realize, if the person has a legitimate reason, you shouldn't, and those are the only ones likely to care whether you get riled up or not. The rude ones don't care and never will, so all you're really doing is stressing yourself.

But hey, if that's what you want to do, go for it.

So everyone should let you cut in line at EPCOT Center because there are starving children in Africa? Good luck with that one...

I admit I was more glib in my last post than I should have been, but I truly think that one who gt so upset about such issues really would do themselves a favor to just let it go and not sweat the small stuff.

Perhaps you should follow your own advise? why not wait a few minutes waiting in the line from where you get in it instead of cutting the line to get up with your family? Whats the big deal with a few minutes wait, your at Disney stop and smell the roses! It's no big deal if you spend 5 minutes away from your family you have been with them all day.

I seriously don't get how adults don't grasp the concept that kindheartedness understand and live by If you weren't in the line when it formed you weren't and aren't in the line. You get out of line you go to the back. Go watch a group of 5 yr olds they can explain it to you. Whats the rush? seems like your sweating the small stuff trying to rush.

Oh and as far as blocking, it works very well on BTMRR! I know that for sure. and so do the 2 women that tried to get around. Once 1 person stands up and says no it is amazing how the crowd will stick together.

AndreA said she doesn't care if the people she cuts in front of get upset. Are you calling her "one of the rude ones?"

Dude, I'm generally the one accused of extreme hyperbole, but come on. You're being a bit over the top and obviously attempting to put words in her mouth.

Did she actually say that? I'm reasonably sure she laid out some pretty good examples of having to leave a line and subsequently rejoin her party. In that case, it's only your opinion that she is "cutting". And in those scenarios, I'd say the same thing. It's your opinion, and I don't care.

Those were your words, not mine. And they were in response to posts arguing you should not cut in line at WDW. You made the argument - own it.

Pure. Comedy. Gold. I can promise you that I can get all the way around you on that ride especially.

But hey, keep getting your blood pressure up over nothing. I'm sure it makes your vacations all the more magical.

Yes, thank you. And as a mom of twin toddlers (take a look at the siggy) yeah, it is kind of a big deal that I make it back to my family if I have to step out of line. If it's a two seater ride then they can't ride without me, and one would probsbly scream for me regardless, and I really think that the fit they might throw if forced to wait for fifteen minutes one step from the ride would make everyone's experience a lot more painful than me slipping by to join them! :rotfl2:

...and Disney's.

It's your opinion, and I don't care.

I think that sums up your position pretty clearly, which is why I'm under no false impression that I or anyone else will convince you that cutting in line at an amusement park is wrong.

Oh, well. :cool1:

Don't worry darlin, it's only on these types of boards that you see this. Vast majority of people couldn't care less.

Well, given their track record of enforcement, I'd say they don't care, either.

Oh, I don't agree that people should actually cut in line. However, if they are in line and have to leave, it's kinda not cutting. And since you don't really know.....

:drive:

That's nice but the two who tried it didn't that day! And no my BP was fine especially when the entire line started riding the people who were cutting and they had to sheepishly stand there and listen.

I'm also very glad that you are so proud of being rude and feeling so special that rules don't apply to you. Like I said I'll take the 5 yr olds who know how a line works.
