What do you do for a living?

I'm currently a student. I'm, majoring in History education and I want to be a High School History teacher.

I'm an Assistant Instructor at a University Child Development Lab.

I love my job. :) I spend my time primarily with infants and toddlers but I get the best of both worlds because of my college students that take the lab course. It's hard work, but fun and always interesting.

I work in the Store Operations Dept of a major retailer. I manage one of their customer satisfaction programs, coordinate one of our associate incentive programs and also manage a knowledge base for store operations support reps and store customer satisfaction reps.

It is pretty fun and interesting. Part of my team answers calls from store customers (complaints and compliments) and I must tell you we get some pretty interesting people who call (and not always in a good way).

My "day" job is a 911 dispatcher for our county, city, 6 fire districts and 2 medical agencies...my night job is a cake decorating teacher...and I am building a cake business so I can quit one job:cutie:

I worked in radio for 22 years till I was laid off in 2003. Worked in marketing for a senior citizen home and Sam's Club till I was pulled into television in 2005. Since then have worked at several cable and network stations until I found my niche back in traffic broadcasting. We monitor the traffic for 81 US markets and over 300 stations and provide CNN new sources for stations that normally would not have that kind of national access. Chances are whatever dweeb you see monitoring the traffic in your neighborhood on the TV or radio is one of our employees!! :happytv:

I also LOVE my job! I work with the greatest group of women who make my life so easy! Work is a pleasure when you have good employees! :thumbsup2

My only complaint is I usually have to deal with all of those local stations and they seem to have a new employee who hasn't got a CLUE hired every week! :headache: Sometimes I feel like an elementary school teacher! :teacher:

OP, you have my dream job! I worked for my local PD when I graduated college back in the mid 90's in the planning dept, but I longed to be in crime scene. Had we stayed, I would have moved when/if the opp came up. I went on to have a great career as a paralegal, but have been a SAHM for the last 2 years and I love it. I still do some contract paralegal work here and there and I also handle the financial side of my husband's job (he's self employed).

I hear that all the time. When people find out what I do thats all they want to talk about. Which is good because I have some interesteing stories to share. The job is not for everyone because we deal with a lot of things that most people would not.

I don't know if this has already done, but I thought it might be neat to do. I'm sure like most people on here, we all wonder what some of the people who are DIS do for a living. I've always wondered.

So with that in mind, post what type of work you do or exactly what you do. Be specific or general. Feel free to share as much info as you want to. This would also be a great way to network with others in your field or those people in the field of work you'd like to get into.

I'll start first:

I'm a Crime Scene Investigator for an area police department. And before anyone asks, no it's not like it is on TV.

I really like my job. I respond to all types of crime scenes from simple property crimes to robberies, suicides and murders. I work a lot of hours and often times my work goes unnoticed by the public. We receive a lot of specialty training which does allow me the opportunity to travel to some places I might not otherwise be able to visit.

So go ahead and jump on board!

You also have my dream job!! Glad to hear you side of it, I realize it's not nearly as easy or as amazing as TV makes it look. I watch all sorts of unscripted real crime and I find your job incredible!! :worship: Last night I tried to talk my son into making it HIS major in college!! :rotfl: Unfortunately the nut didn't fall far from the tree and he insists in following my footsteps into the underpaid nightmare called communications! :sad2:

You mean you don't run around in low cut shirts, tight pants and have sci-fi quality investigative equipment :lmao: They have a CSI class at our high school that is VERY popular. The teacher is a former CSI agent as well. You pretty much have to be in your last semester senior year to get into the class.

I am officially retired from my financial planning career as my hearing loss has pretty much deemed it impossible to do a large portion of my job. I am looking for something that isn't so telephone intensive--possibly something in the HR/benefits area.

Yeah the CSI and Forensics classes are making their way into more and more schools these days do to the popularity of the TV shows. The bad thing is that there are more people who want into the field than the field has jobs for.

IT Director, but lately I have been forced to develop my snow removal expertise. :headache:

I.T. here.

And, yes, most things can be fixed by "turning it off and on again." :rotfl: (Any IT Crowd fans here?)

This is also the reason I can hang out on the DIS for most of my day.

Toad, we love IT Crowd around here - my DH is a IT Manager - he says goofy things like PICNIC (problem in chair, not in computer) and many others...

Why is British TV so much better than ours! - You may enjoy An Idiot Abroad on Science Channel - from creators of IT Crowd...

Anyway...I am a "Newsroom Assistant" at the local newspaper which is code for data entry/secretary/clerical/admin asst./backup Obituary writer, calendar of events coordinator - copier paper unjammer....you get the idea...

Currently own a gift shop. But will probably close it very soon. I want to start taking my crafts to festivals and craft shows on weekends so I can stay home during the week and get more involved with DS7 school activities.

Financial Aid Councilor for the local college and working on my masters in business.

Commercial Fisherman, I catch, process, buy, and sell oysters, crab, and shrimp; or at least I did till BP came along, now we are mostly living off of savings.

Paul

That is terrible, are things getting any better there? I was under the impression things were back to normal, but I guess not? Is it getting better? Almost cleaned up? Interested in the situation. Hope things get better for you.
