What do you do for a living?

I was an assistant Development Officer for my town, but I quit 2 years ago and took a year off. Right now I work part time doing Admin for Pepsi.
But I dream about going back to school and getting my MA and PhD in History/Archeaology.

I don't know if this has already done, but I thought it might be neat to do. I'm sure like most people on here, we all wonder what some of the people who are DIS do for a living. I've always wondered.

So with that in mind, post what type of work you do or exactly what you do. Be specific or general. Feel free to share as much info as you want to. This would also be a great way to network with others in your field or those people in the field of work you'd like to get into.

I'll start first:

I'm a Crime Scene Investigator for an area police department. And before anyone asks, no it's not like it is on TV.

I really like my job. I respond to all types of crime scenes from simple property crimes to robberies, suicides and murders. I work a lot of hours and often times my work goes unnoticed by the public. We receive a lot of specialty training which does allow me the opportunity to travel to some places I might not otherwise be able to visit.

So go ahead and jump on board!

You mean you don't run around in low cut shirts, tight pants and have sci-fi quality investigative equipment :lmao: They have a CSI class at our high school that is VERY popular. The teacher is a former CSI agent as well. You pretty much have to be in your last semester senior year to get into the class.

I am officially retired from my financial planning career as my hearing loss has pretty much deemed it impossible to do a large portion of my job. I am looking for something that isn't so telephone intensive--possibly something in the HR/benefits area.

I am an accounting clerk for a very large company...most of you local NJ folks probably shop at one of my stores...
I deal with banking, EPS (credit/debit cards/ebt transactions), cash and sales, and some customer service. I also maintain the returned check database for our company. I do a lot of research (working with LP at times) and I really love what I do.

Middle School Lunch Lady and I love it one of the best jobs I have ever had:thumbsup2 Mary

I am a Marketing Communications Manager for a Life Sciences company.

I love my job!

I worked in advertising for many years, then stayed at home with my kids. 7 years ago I went back to school and I am now teaching special ed. I love it! It was the best decision I ever made. It is the most challenging, frustrating, irritating and downright difficult job I have ever had, but it is also the most rewarding thing I have ever done. I wouldn't change a thing. :)

I am the Billing Manager for 3 Pediatric Neurologists. I love it! The doctors are really good to me. If I need to be out with my kids because they are sick, I can work from home. They also let me take every Friday off in the summer to hang out with my kids (without using vacation time). I've been here for 10 years. Started out in medical records, having never worked in a doctors office before. I paid attention to everything and absorbed all the knowledge available in order to move up the ladder.

SAHomeschoolM - I'm just waiting for the "stay at home" part to begin because it seems like most of our learning takes place on the go. lol

I am a office manager/legal secretary/admin assistant/HR/book keeper for a small law firm. Basically I do anything that the lawyers don't want to! :rotfl:

I'm a corporate travel agent. I work for a large, well known medical organization with two other agents (one of whom is my boss) and we handle the travel arrangements for the organization, both for employees and people the organization meets with. Our little office does about $2M a year in airline ticket sales, so we stay pretty busy. Starting in '07, my company decided our division could work from home full time. So they gave me a computer and a phone set up, and I get to spend my work days in my home office! :)

I do work all day though. My hours are set and since I work when the phone rings, I'm tied to my desk, so it's not like I can do house cleaning or run errands when I feel like it. Being home means that during my lunch hour and breaks, I can get things done of course, but really I'm pretty much in my little office for 8 hours a day. It also means that if/when I have kids, I'll still need child care as I can't bounce a screaming child on my knee and still speak to someone on the phone and book their airline ticket. I stay in touch with my boss and co-worker by instant message and telephone, and my boss can easily track my work through the airline reservation system and my phone stats, in short it's pretty easy for her to see if I'm slacking off (not that I do, of course). Don't get me wrong, working from home is GREAT, but it's not the easy gig a lot of people first assume it is.

And no, I don't work in my PJ's. I get dressed each morning before I start work. I don't wear "office clothes" of course, but I am dressed! :)

Elementary Teacher :)

I'm ready to move to the high school level, however!

I am a SAHM. Last year after 16 years of being home I got a P/T job as a preschool aid. It was a one year job and while I enjoyed it, we as a family were glad to see it end. I now sub there, but I don't make much (I get paid minimum wage but only for 2.5 hours but I wind up staying 3 hours wiht clean up so I don't even make minumum wage.) I really only do it to help out my friend when she needs me (she is the head teacher.)

My Dh is Director of IT for a company with 85 restaurants. He works long and crazy hours so we have decided it's best for me to be home to hold down the fort.

Well, technically I am a Paralegal! But, at the office in which I work, I am the Paralegal, the Legal Secretary, the Bookeeper, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Runner, and Personal Assistant! Oh well, I have some GREAT thing to add to my resume at least!

No really I love what I do, the boss can be a real, ummm, there isn't a dis legal word for it, at times, but I stay EXTREMELY busy and the day goes by SUPER fast, so it works out pretty well!

Do you have my old job ;)

911 Addressing Coordinator/GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Tech. I do 911 addresses for new construction for our county & answer all related calls about them and maintain mapping layers for the 911 system of our county. I love my job! :lovestruc

I am a Communications Director for a well known "sweet" company. Love my job and all the perks that come with it, but my butt and thighs don't! ;)

I am a product manager for a large telecommunications equipment manager working life cycle issues. I work with Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexers (DWDM). We sell to telecommunications carriers like Verizon and Global Crossing, and 96% of all telephony and internet traffic touches a piece of our equipment somewhere along the line.
